New video shows moments after Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen's killer took his own life

Dashcam footage from a fateful night has been made public by the City of Killeen, offering a glimpse into the moments immediately following Aaron Robinson's fatal decision to take his own life. The video captures the aftermath of Robinson turning the gun on himself as he was being pursued by authorities in early morning hours on July 1, 2020.

As officers closed in on him, Robinson had become the prime suspect in the murder of Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen, who was killed earlier that April. When the footage begins, Robinson is seen with his leg already falling to the ground after firing the gun. Officer Frost arrives at the scene shortly thereafter, and the police proceed to secure the area by checking for a pulse, marking off the site, and discussing what transpired.

Audio clips from this footage are set to be released as part of an upcoming bonus episode of "20/20" Podcast's "Vanished: What Happened to Vanessa." The special will feature interviews with ABC News correspondents John Quiรฑones and Brad Mielke, scheduled to air on October 28.

.. can you believe this is how some things go down? I mean, I'm all for justice, but the whole thing just seems so... rushed. Like, what was going through their minds, right? One minute it's a guy trying to take his own life, and the next, he's in a shootout with cops. And on top of that, this girl is dead, innocent... it's all just so sad. ๐Ÿค• I don't get why they're releasing this footage now, though. It seems like an eternity ago. But hey, I guess it's good that we can finally see what went down. Maybe it'll help bring some closure to the family and stuff. ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿค• this is just so sad. it feels like the system failed him in every way possible. i mean, a guy who was being pursued by cops because he was under investigation for murder... doesn't that raise some red flags? ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’ฅ and then to take his own life after already feeling like he's trapped between police and justice systems... it just feels so avoidable.

it's crazy to me that this is still getting released years later. did we learn anything from the way it went down? should there be more checks in place? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ฌ

.. watching this footage is really somber ๐Ÿค•. It's clear that everything went down so fast - one minute he's shooting the gun, next his leg hits the ground... it's like he just snapped ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. And what's crazy is that all of this was happening while authorities were trying to apprehend him over Vanessa Guillen's murder case. I mean, you can see how quickly they moved in after he took his own life - it's almost like they knew something was about to go down โฐ.

It's also interesting that the police are being super careful about securing the scene and talking about what happened... it's clear that this is a situation that requires a lot of sensitivity. I'm curious to see what comes out in that "20/20" special - hopefully they get some real answers about what led up to Robinson taking his own life ๐Ÿค”.

omg I'm so sorry to see how this all went down it's like such a tragic loss of life my heart goes out to Vanessa's family ๐Ÿค• the fact that it's taken them almost two years to get some answers is just heartbreaking I feel like we should've seen something fishy with Aaron from the start, but I guess you never really know what's gonna happen behind closed doors anyway, can't wait for that "20/20" podcast ep tho ๐Ÿ“บ๐Ÿ’ป

Man, this is like something straight outta a movie ๐ŸŽฅ. I mean, can you imagine being in the shoes of those officers trying to make sense of what's happening? The tension must've been palpable ๐Ÿคฏ. And now we get to see it all go down on camera...I'm not sure if it's a blessing or a curse that dashcam footage is out there. It's like, on one hand, we get some closure, but on the other hand, it's just so brutal ๐Ÿ’”. I feel for Vanessa Guillen's family, you know? It's like, she was already dealing with so much trauma, and then this happens. It's just heartbreaking ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. And now they're gonna release audio clips of this footage as part of some podcast episode...it's like, are we really ready to relive all this again? ๐Ÿค”.

Wow ๐Ÿคฏ this is so sad! I cant even imagine being in that situation, the cops did everything they could to try and stop him ๐Ÿ’”. I mean its not easy knowing youre the prime suspect in a murder investigation especially when it feels like everyone is chasing you down โฑ๏ธ. The fact that his leg was already falling from the ground shows how fast things went downhill ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. Im glad the police were able to secure the scene and try to figure out what happened, its just so frustrating that we may never know for sure ๐Ÿค”

I mean... what can I even say about this? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ It's crazy how quickly things escalated for Aaron Robinson after he decided to take his own life. You feel bad for the guy, but at the same time, you're thinking about Vanessa Guillen and her family who's still hurting because of him. The police handling of the situation is also super questionable - I mean, shouldn't they've tried to talk him down or something? But then again, we don't know what was going on in his head that night... ๐Ÿค”

I'm glad that the city of Killeen released this footage, it's like a huge weight off their shoulders now. But at the same time, I hope they can use this as an opportunity to actually make some changes and prevent something like this from happening again in the future? ๐Ÿคž Ugh, my head is spinning just thinking about all this... ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

๐Ÿ˜• this is so sad I cant even... ๐Ÿ˜ญ the thought of that poor soldier Vanessa Guillen still not getting justice after all these months its like her life wasnt even worth it ๐Ÿคฏ and now theyre releasing dashcam footage hoping itll lead to some kinda answers but honestly im not sure if itll make a difference at this point ๐Ÿ’”

I'm still not convinced about these new dashcam releases ๐Ÿค”. I mean, think about it - we're basically putting out raw footage of someone's final moments to the public? It's just too much info ๐Ÿคฏ. What if this was a really traumatic scene for witnesses or even family members who are trying to process what happened? Do we really need to see every detail of their last moments like that? And what about the fact that officers were closing in on him? Wasn't that a pretty intense situation already? I don't think it's necessary to put out this footage, especially if it's just going to be used for some TV special ๐Ÿ“บ. Can't we just leave some things unsaid and focus on finding closure instead of rehashing the whole thing? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Omg, you guys ๐Ÿคฏ! I'm still trying to process this footage ๐Ÿ“น. It's heartbreaking to see the moments leading up to Aaron Robinson's tragic decision ๐Ÿ’”. He was already under so much pressure with Vanessa Guillen's murder case ๐Ÿš”. And can we talk about how brave Officer Frost is? I mean, he showed up on the scene and just went in there to help ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช! The way the police handled the situation is super professional ๐Ÿ’ผ. But at the same time, it's still so sad that this had to happen ๐Ÿค•. We need more awareness about mental health and the importance of seeking help ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’†โ€โ™€๏ธ. Let's keep sharing our love and support for Vanessa's family ๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ’— #VanessaGuillen #MentalHealthMatters #JusticeForAaron #PoliceBravery

I'm not sure about this new trend where they're releasing dashcam footage of everything ๐Ÿค”. I mean, what's the point? It's just going to sensationalize things and make it all about the drama. Can't we just focus on getting some closure for the families instead? And what's with the podcast release? Is that really necessary? I feel like they're just trying to milk this story for more clicks and views ๐Ÿ“บ. I'm not saying it's bad that people are interested, but can't we have a more thoughtful conversation about it?

๐Ÿค” This dashcam footage is a tragic reminder of the devastating consequences that can unfold when individuals feeling overwhelmed by mental health struggles take drastic measures. The graphic nature of the video is heart-wrenching, serving as a poignant warning about the importance of early intervention and support systems.

It's also worth noting how this footage has taken on a secondary purpose, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding Vanessa Guillen's murder case. The subsequent investigation and subsequent airing of the "Vanished: What Happened to Vanessa" episode will undoubtedly bring attention to an otherwise forgotten tragedy. I hope that this renewed focus can help raise awareness about mental health resources and support networks available to those struggling with similar issues. ๐Ÿ’”

just watched that dashcam footage ๐Ÿคฏ it's so sad what happened to Aaron Robinson... looks like he was in such a desperate state ๐Ÿ˜”, i feel for his family & loved ones ๐Ÿ’• the police handling of the situation is somethin they can all learn from ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ officer frost shows up right after and checks for a pulse, that's so important we gotta take care of each other ๐Ÿค it's also wild to think about what was goin on in Robinson's mind leadin up to that tragic event ๐Ÿ’ญ anyway, hope the upcoming "Vanished" special episode helps bring some closure to Vanessa Guillen's family & friends ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿค” so the dashcam footage is out now and it's already sparking some questions... like why was the gun pointed at his own head from the start? that doesn't seem right ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ I need to see more context, but the audio clips of the police discussion are gonna be super interesting - what exactly were they discussing after he fired the gun? were there any miscommunications or misunderstandings? also, is it true that Robinson was being pursued because he was a prime suspect in Guillen's murder? ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ I need some sources on this one before I can really wrap my head around it...

๐Ÿ“ฐ just saw the dashcam footage from that crazy night in Killeen and I'm still trying to process what happened ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. it's wild how quickly Aaron Robinson's life went from suspect to deceased ๐Ÿ’€. you can see the fear in his eyes as he fires the gun, it's like time is slowing down for him ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ. the footage shows just how intense the situation must have been - I feel bad for the officers who had to deal with this on top of everything else ๐Ÿค. and now we're gonna get more insight into what happened to Vanessa Guillen... this 20/20 special is gonna be a wild ride ๐Ÿ‘€. can't wait to hear from John Quiรฑones and Brad Mielke about it, I need all the details ๐Ÿ’ฌ.

I'm still trying to process everything that happened that night in Killeen ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, imagine being the prime suspect in a murder case and then having your life end like that... it's just so sad ๐Ÿ’”. And for what? I don't think anyone will ever know for sure why he did it, but it's clear that he was struggling with something ๐Ÿ˜•.

As a student, I try to stay away from the news when it's too heavy, but this one really got me. It's like, what if it could've been you or someone you know? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ We're lucky we have our lives and can make a difference in the world ๐Ÿ’ช. The police did everything they could to try and help him, I guess... it's just a shame that it didn't work out in the end ๐Ÿ˜”.

I'm also really curious about this "Vanished" podcast episode - do you think it'll help people understand what happened to Vanessa? ๐Ÿค” It's always tough when someone dies under mysterious circumstances ๐Ÿ’”.

I'm still trying to process what happened with Aaron Robinson ๐Ÿ˜•. It's crazy how dashcam footage can be so raw and intense. I mean, you can just feel the tension in that video ๐Ÿคฏ. The fact that it was released now feels a bit late, don't you think? Like, we've been hearing about Vanessa Guillen's murder for years and this new info might not change anything ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

I do love how the police are being super transparent about what went down though ๐Ÿ’ฏ. Checking for a pulse, securing the area... it's like they're trying to show us that they're on it ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ. But at the same time, you can't help but wonder if there were other factors at play ๐Ÿค”. Did they know more about Robinson's involvement in Guillen's murder than they're letting on? We'll just have to wait and see what comes out next ๐Ÿ“บ.

just watched that dashcam footage from the Killeen police... it's like you can feel the tension in the air ๐Ÿคฏ. what really got me was when Frost arrives on scene, he's all calm & collected but you can tell he's trying not to freak out. how many of us would've reacted differently in his shoes? ๐Ÿค”

anyway, I'm curious - do you think the fact that the footage is being released now (years after the incident) is gonna bring up more questions than answers about what led up to Aaron Robinson's decision? ๐Ÿ“บ

Ugh, it's just so heartbreaking watching this footage... ๐Ÿค• I feel for the investigators, they're tryin' to piece together what happened in a split second. The fact that we're seein' this now, after all these years, is wild. It's like we get to relive those 5 seconds over again... but it's not like we can take 'em back or nothin'. I gotta wonder how the police department and Vanessa's family are feelin', still dealin' with this tragedy all these years later... ๐Ÿ˜” My mind's also wanderin' about Aaron Robinson - what led him to that point? The audio clips comin' out next on "20/20" might be the first time we really get a chance to hear his story, and I hope it helps us understand what went down that fateful night. Fingers crossed for some closure... ๐Ÿ‘
