The Android-powered Boox Palma 2 Pro fits in your pocket, but it’s not a phone

Boox's Palma 2 Pro: A Pocket-Sized E-Reader with a Twist

In an era where digital reading devices have become ubiquitous, Boox has unveiled its latest e-reader, the Palma 2 Pro. This Android-powered device may not be a traditional smartphone or phone, but it offers a unique blend of features that set it apart from other e-readers on the market.

The Palma 2 Pro's most striking feature is its color screen. While some might expect a larger display to accommodate vibrant colors, Boox has opted for a 6.13-inch E Ink Kaleido display, which, although less sharp in color mode, still offers a visually appealing reading experience. The touchscreen display measures 824 × 1648 pixels in monochrome but halves to 412 × 824 when switched to color mode.

The Palma 2 Pro also boasts a SIM card slot, allowing users to access 5G mobile data along with Wi-Fi connectivity. This feature positions the device as more than just an e-reader; it's now a versatile handheld device that can keep up with modern internet needs.

Under the hood, the Palma 2 Pro runs Android 15 out of the box, which may raise some eyebrows given Boox's history of using older mobile OS builds. However, the company has found creative workarounds to make its devices compatible with the Google Play Store, ensuring users have access to a wide range of apps.

While the Palma 2 Pro is available for pre-order at $400 and is expected to ship on November 14, it's unclear whether this price point reflects the device's value proposition. Will consumers be willing to pay top dollar for an Android-powered e-reader with 5G connectivity? Only time will tell.

One thing is certain: Boox has once again pushed the boundaries of what an e-reader can offer, blurring the lines between mobile devices and digital reading platforms. The Palma 2 Pro may not fit neatly into any one category but promises to deliver a unique reading experience for those who crave more from their handheld device.

just saw this new boox thingy 🤔 and its color screen is actually pretty cool, i mean its not like they went all out on the display quality or anything, but it still looks nice 💻 and 5g connectivity is a nice touch, plus android 15 means you can get most apps, but $400 might be steep for some people 🤑

I mean, I'm loving this new Boox thing! 🤩 They're really pushing the boundaries of what an e-reader can be, you know? Having 5G and Android on board is insane - it's like a phone in your pocket that doesn't make calls. But for an e-reader, I think it's genius. The color screen might not be as bright as some other devices, but it still looks super sharp and the E Ink display is great for reading. And having Wi-Fi and a SIM card slot means you can use it to browse the web or stream videos on the go. At $400, it's definitely pricey, but if it delivers on that promise of a unique reading experience, I think people will snap it up.

🤔 I mean... isn't a color screen on an e-reader like, totally unnecessary? 🙅‍♂️ But at the same time, I can see how it could be kinda cool to read books with all these different colors and stuff. 📚 I'm still not sure if 5G connectivity is worth it though... like, do you really need that kind of speed for reading? 🤷‍♂️ And what's up with Android 15? Shouldn't they be using a newer OS by now? 😒 Still, I guess Boox has done something right with this thing... 🤓

I'm so down for this new Boox e-reader! 🤩 I mean, who needs all that screen real estate when you can have a gorgeous color display on the go? The E Ink Kaleido tech is still super readable, even in color mode, and it's a nice change of pace from those monochrome screens. Plus, having 5G and Wi-Fi built-in is a total game-changer - I'm thinking of using mine to read on the go while also catching up on work emails or social media 📱💻

But what really gets me excited about this thing is that it's not just for reading anymore. It's like, a portable little computer that you can carry around! 😎 I can already imagine myself binge-reading my favorite series and then switching to YouTube to watch some funny vids or something. The Android 15 might be a bit of an odd choice, but I trust Boox to make it work... and hey, at least they're trying new things, right? 🤔

"Experience is the name of life" 📚💻... yeah, I'm still waiting to try out this new e-reader myself! But one thing's for sure, Boox has managed to cram in some pretty cool features like 5G connectivity and a color screen into what could've been just another run-of-the-mill e-reader. Now it's up to us consumers to decide if the $400 price tag is worth it...

idk why boox is trying to make its e-reader do too much 🤔. like, it's an e-reader, right? shouldn't it just be for reading? i mean, yes, 5g connectivity and a color screen are cool and all, but can they really handle intense gaming or video streaming? probably not 📱💻. and what's up with android 15? isn't that like, super old? 💸. also, $400 is pretty steep for an e-reader, especially if it's not exactly a phone 🤑. can someone please get me some reviews from people who actually have the thing in their hands? i need to know if this is worth the hype 😐

idk about this price point 🤑 $400 seems like a lot for an e-reader, especially when there are cheaper options available that still offer great features. plus, 5g connectivity is nice but not life-changing for reading, you know? and the display might be pretty cool in color mode but it's also got some drawbacks - like how it halves resolution when switching to color. maybe they should've just stuck with an e ink screen all the way 📖

omg yaaas Boox is killing it with this new Palma 2 Pro 🤩 its 5G connectivity and Android 15 out of the box is giving me all the feels 💻 cant wait to see how it compares to other e-readers on the market 📚

I mean, I gotta say, this Boox Palma 2 Pro is kinda cool 🤔! Having a color screen and Android capabilities opens up so many possibilities for reading and browsing 📚👀 But at the same time, $400 might be a bit steep considering it's an e-reader... 🤑 I'm curious to see how it'll hold up in terms of battery life and performance 🤯

I gotta say, Boox is really innovating with this new e-reader thingy! They took some risks by adding that color screen and a SIM card slot - I mean, we all know how much we love our e-readers for reading, but now it's like they're trying to turn them into mini laptops or something. 🤔 Still, if it means better battery life and more features, I'm down! The Android 15 thing is also interesting, gotta see how that plays out. But at $400? That's a bit steep for me. Are people gonna pay top dollar for this thing just 'cause it's got 5G? 🤑 Only time'll tell, I guess.

I just got back from the most random trip to visit my aunt in Hawaii 🌴🏖️ and I saw the most beautiful sunset on the beach... it was like the sky was painted with colors I've never seen before 💛. Anyway, it made me think about how much I love reading and then I realized that I need a new e-reader... or maybe not, who needs to be online all the time? 🤯 I mean, have you guys tried reading without Wi-Fi? It's like a whole different world! 🌐 I'm kinda tempted to get the Boox Palma 2 Pro just for the color screen though, my eyes love watching those colors come alive 🎨. And $400 seems like a lot of cash but if it means I can have an e-reader that doubles as a mobile device, maybe it's worth it?

idk why they're charging $400 for this thing tho 🤑 like, i get that it's got 5g and android 15, but is it really worth that much money?? also, i'm not sure about the color screen, i mean, i know some people love reading in color, but isn't it just gonna be a hassle to read for hours on end? 🤔 but at the same time, if you're one of those people who's always glued to their phone, this thing might be perfect for you... who knows? 📱

📚 I think Boox has done an amazing job with the Palma 2 Pro, it's like they're challenging our traditional notions of what an e-reader should be 🤔. The fact that it has 5G connectivity and a color screen is just genius, I mean who doesn't want to read in vibrant colors? It's not just about reading anymore, it's about the experience 💻. And the Android 15 OS, I'm impressed they were able to make it work with the Google Play Store 🤓. Of course, at $400 it might be a bit steep for some, but I think the value proposition is definitely there for those who want a more modern reading experience. Overall, Boox has done an incredible job of pushing the boundaries of what's possible in e-readers and I'm super excited to get my hands on one 🎉.

I mean... who needs color on an e-reader anyway? It's overrated 🙄. I'm still waiting for someone to revolutionize the industry with a screen that doesn't suck at reading in bright light. Anyone know if they're gonna include a built-in eye care feature? Asking for a friend who reads every day 😒.

omg what do u guys think about boox's new palma 2 pro? i mean its an e-reader with color screen 🤯 and 5g connectivity... thats wild! i'd say its a great option for ppl who wanna stay connected on the go, but at $400 its a bit steep don't u think? 👀

🤔 I'm loving this new Boox Palma 2 Pro thingy, but you know what's even more interesting? How this plays out in the context of our digital economy and what it says about our nation's priorities 📊. Think about it: a $400 e-reader that can access 5G data - is that really worth it to some people? It just goes to show how we value convenience over content, don't you think? And let's not forget the implications for affordable digital reading options for all citizens... it raises more questions than answers 📚💻.

I'm like, totally reminiscing about my old-school e-reader days 📚💻, you know when we just had black & white screens and it was all about the words? Now, I see this new Boox Palma 2 Pro with its color screen and Android OS... I mean, what's wrong with good ol' E Ink, right? 😂 But seriously, the fact that it has a SIM card slot and can connect to 5G is just too cool! Reminds me of when I used to travel and carry around my old Nokia phone 📱. I wonder if this thing will still be readable in bright sunlight like my old Kindle... guess we'll just have to wait & see 💡

I mean, who needs all that color on an e-reader anyway 🙄? It's like they're trying to make it look like a tiny smartphone or something. But hey, I guess the E Ink Kaleido display is still pretty cool, even if it's not as sharp in color mode. And the 5G connectivity is definitely a nice touch... but is $400 really worth it for an e-reader? 🤔
