Max B Returns to Music Scene Days After Prison Release
In a surprise move, Harlem rapper Max B made his highly anticipated return to the stage just days after being released from prison. The Wave God joined Brandy and Monica at their NYC show at Barclays Center on Thursday night, performing his 2008 classic "Sexy Love" for a crowd of enthusiastic fans.
Monica greeted Max with a warm welcome, saying "Welcome home, my brother," before he took the mic and commanded attention: "New York, stand up! He's back. Where are my ladies at, Barclays?" The energy was palpable as Max walked around the stage, danced with Monica, and then launched into an impassioned performance of "Sexy Love."
The show was filled with special guests, including Fabolous, Fat Joe, Ciara, who joined Brandy and Monica for a performance of their hit song "Level Up," along with Tyrese for his tribute to Jennifer Lopez's "Sweet Lady."
Max B's release from prison on November 9 came after 16 years behind bars for his role in a botched armed robbery that resulted in the death of one man. In an interview earlier this year, Max expressed his gratitude and determination: "I'm feeling righteous, man... Wavy Baby coming home real soon."
Although Max B was originally sentenced to 75 years in prison for his involvement in the robbery, his conviction was vacated in 2016 after a new legal team argued that his original trial lawyer had a conflict of interest. His sentence was later reduced to 20 years.
In recent years, despite being incarcerated, Max B has continued to release music, including collaborations with French Montana and an album called Negro Spirituals. Next Friday, he will drop a new project titled The First Purge (Patient Zero).
Brandy and Monica's The Boy Is Mine Tour will continue on Friday in Newark before heading to other destinations across the country.
