10/31: CBS Morning News

President Trump on Friday called on Senate Republicans to abolish the filibuster, a long-standing legislative procedure that requires a supermajority of 60 votes to pass certain measures. The move is seen as an attempt to break a deadlock in Congress over government funding.

However, a separate issue was also being highlighted at the same time during New York City Marathon.

Additionally, during the marathon a heart transplant recipient named, 24-year-old Emily, who has been raising awareness for nonprofit Harboring Hearts, spoke about her personal experience with organ donation and transplantation.

i'm kinda fascinated by this whole filibuster thingy... i mean, it's like, really interesting how politics can be so slow sometimes ๐Ÿคฏ. but at the same time, i feel like we should just get things done already? like, what's a 60 vote majority supposed to accomplish if it's just gonna hold up everything?

and omg, have you guys seen that video of Emily from the NYC marathon? ๐Ÿ˜ she's literally inspiring me right now. being a heart transplant recipient is no joke, and for her to be so open about it is just amazing. i love how Harboring Hearts is raising awareness too - we need more people like them making a difference in our community โค๏ธ.

I'M SO GLAD WE HAVE PEOPLE LIKE EMILY OUT THERE SHARING HER STORY AND RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT ORGAN DONATION!!! IT'S SUCH AN IMPORTANT TOPIC AND ONE THAT CAN REALLY CHANGE LIVES ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’– IT JUST MAKES YOU THINK ABOUT ALL THE GOOD THINGS IN THIS WORLD AND THE KIND OF IMPACT WE CAN HAVE BY SHARING OUR STORIES AND SUPPORTING EACH OTHER ๐Ÿค

BUT SERIOUSLY, WHO NEEDS FILIBUSTER ANYWAY? IT SEEMS LIKE A BUNCH OF OLD-MODEL POLITICS TO ME ๐Ÿ˜ด AND I JUST WANT TO SEE CONGRESS WORKING TOGETHER TO PASS LAWS THAT BENEFIT EVERYONE ๐Ÿ’ช

So I've been seeing this news about Trump wanting to get rid of the filibuster, and I'm like... what's the big deal? ๐Ÿค” I mean, isn't that what lawmakers are supposed to do - make tough decisions and move things forward? It feels like a lot of people are just holding up progress because they don't agree with something. But at the same time, I get why some folks might be concerned about giving up the filibuster... it's been around for ages, after all. ๐Ÿ˜Š The thing is, our government needs to start working more efficiently if we want to tackle the big issues facing our country. Maybe Trump's plan could be a chance to shake things up and find new solutions? ๐Ÿคž

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole filibuster thing. I get why Trump wants to change it, but like, isn't that kinda undermining the whole democratic process? ๐Ÿค” It's not just about passing laws, is it? It's about finding common ground and compromise. And what about all the other issues they're not addressing right now? ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ I mean, Emily's story at the marathon was really inspiring tho... she's so brave for sharing her experience with organ donation ๐Ÿ™. Have we talked enough about that yet? It feels like we should be talking more about it and supporting organizations like Harboring Hearts. They do such important work ๐Ÿ’–

.. can you believe this? Trump thinks he can just abolish the filibuster like it's nothing ๐Ÿคฃ. Like, does he really think Senate Republicans will go along with that without a fight? The dude's got no tact or diplomacy skills, he's all about shaking things up for the sake of drama. And what's even more ridiculous is that it's happening at the same time as the NYC Marathon... meanwhile, there's someone like Emily over there who's literally living her best life after receiving an organ transplant ๐Ÿคž. I mean, can't we focus on stories like hers instead of Trump's latest power play? It just goes to show how out of touch he is with the real issues that matter to people's lives ๐Ÿ’”.

The notion of abolishing the filibuster is an intriguing yet problematic concept ๐Ÿค”. On one hand, it could potentially streamline legislative processes and expedite decision-making in Congress. However, this might come at the cost of eroding the very essence of senatorial deliberation and the protection of minority rights ๐Ÿ’ก.

It's also worth considering that the filibuster serves as a crucial safeguard against rushed or ill-conceived legislation ๐Ÿšจ. Without it, powerful interests may be able to push through their agendas without sufficient scrutiny. On the other hand, one could argue that this would facilitate greater collaboration and compromise among lawmakers ๐Ÿ‘ฅ.

Meanwhile, Emily's inspiring story about organ donation and transplantation is a poignant reminder of the importance of community and collective action ๐ŸŒŸ. It highlights the need for compassionate policy-making that prioritizes human well-being above partisan interests ๐Ÿ’–.

Ugh, can you believe this? Trump thinks he can just abolish the filibuster like it's no big deal ๐Ÿคฏ. I mean, what's next? Is he gonna try to fast track his own agenda without anyone checking him out of fear of a Senate showdown ๐Ÿ˜‚. It's always about him and his ego with that guy.

But anyway, let's talk about something actually inspiring - Emily's story ๐Ÿ™. I love that she's using her platform to raise awareness for organ donation and transplantation. It's amazing how one person can make a difference in the lives of others. Her experience is so brave and selfless... unlike some politicians, who only care about themselves ๐Ÿ’”.

I don't get why Trump is trying to abolish the filibuster ๐Ÿค”. Like, isn't that how democracy works? I mean, it's not like he's gonna just make a bunch of rules out of thin air. And can we talk about how messed up Congress is right now? It feels like they're more interested in bickering than actually getting stuff done ๐Ÿ’ธ.

Anyway, enough about politics ๐Ÿ™„. Have you seen that amazing story about Emily and her heart transplant? ๐Ÿ˜ I mean, it's so inspiring to see people using their platforms for good. Harboring Hearts is such a great nonprofit too! They're doing some really important work with organ donation and transplantation ๐Ÿ’•.

It's crazy how something like the New York City Marathon can bring up these bigger issues ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ. I guess it just goes to show that we need to find ways to connect with each other, even when we disagree on stuff ๐Ÿค.

๐Ÿ˜ฎ Can you believe what's happening in the US right now? ๐Ÿคฏ I mean, abolishing the filibuster is a huge move that could shake things up in Congress. But at the same time, I'm over here thinking about Emily's story during the NYC Marathon ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’–. A heart transplant recipient spreading awareness about organ donation and transplantation... it's just so inspiring! ๐Ÿ’• I mean, have you seen those heartwarming vids of people donating organs? ๐Ÿค It's amazing to see how one person can make a difference in someone else's life.

And can we talk about the NYC Marathon for a sec? ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ I mean, it's not just about running; it's about perseverance and pushing boundaries. Emily's story is like that, but on a much bigger scale. She's sharing her experience to help others understand the importance of organ donation. ๐Ÿ’– It's really making me think... are we taking enough for granted in our lives? ๐Ÿค”

the filibuster thing is just so weird ๐Ÿคฏ, like what's the point of having a supermajority requirement in the first place? it's not like it's going to stop anyone from getting things done who really wants to. but at the same time, i get why trump would want to abolish it - it sounds like he thinks it's just holding back progress and stuff.

but let's be real, the real issue here is probably how a lack of supermajority voting can lead to some pretty bad legislation ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. i mean, think about it - if one side has all the power, that's not healthy for democracy at all. but hey, maybe trump just wants to speed things up and get stuff done faster?

anyway, moving on from politics and onto something way more interesting - the heart transplant recipient who spoke out during the marathon? that's amazing ๐Ÿคฉ. i mean, having a second chance at life is literally the best thing ever. it makes me so grateful for organ donation and the people who make it happen โค๏ธ.

omg i'm still trying to process everything that's happening right now ๐Ÿคฏ so like president trump wants to abolish the filibuster which is a big deal because it basically means they can get stuff passed without needing 60 votes from senate republicans ๐Ÿค‘ but on a more positive note, there was this amazing story about emily who got a heart transplant and she was talking about organ donation during the new york city marathon ๐Ÿ’– it's so inspiring to see people spreading awareness like that and making a difference in other people's lives ๐Ÿ‘

omg did u see that? so President Trump is all like "let's abolish the filibuster" lol what's next? ๐Ÿคฃ he wants to shake things up in Congress but honestly i think it's a bit dramatic. have you seen how dysfunctional they are already? anyway, i'm more excited about this other story from the NYC marathon ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ. that heart transplant recipient Emily is literally an inspiration! i mean, who wouldn't want to give their life away for someone else, right? โค๏ธ it's amazing how one person can raise awareness and make a difference through her story. let's all take a page out of Emily's book and spread some love and kindness ๐ŸŒˆ

The filibuster thing... it's like they're trying to speed up things or something. But think about it, if everyone just agrees on everything, then what's the point of having a Senate at all? It's like, we need some pushback, some debate, you know?

But anyway, back to Emily and her story... I'm so inspired by that young lady. I mean, who gives up their own life for someone else to live? That's what organ donation is all about โ€“ giving people a second chance. We should all be like that, not just with organs but also with our time, energy, and resources.

And can we talk about the NYC Marathon? The city comes together like this every year... it's like one big, happy family. I'm definitely going to watch some of the videos from the marathon today ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ
