2025 BBC Women's Footballer of the Year contenders

Five talented footballers have been shortlisted for the prestigious 2025 BBC Women's Footballer of the Year award. Aitana Bonmati, Hannah Hampton, Mariona Caldentey, Alessia Russo, and Patri Guijarro are among the contenders vying for this recognition.

Aitana Bonmati, a midfielder from Barcelona, has been making waves in La Liga with her impressive performances for FC Barcelona Femení. Her speed, agility, and vision on the pitch have earned her widespread acclaim, including a Spanish championship title last season.

Hannah Hampton, an English forward, has also had a standout season, scoring crucial goals for Chelsea FC Women in the Women's Super League. Her pace, power, and finishing ability make her a formidable opponent for any defense.

Mariona Caldentey, another Spanish midfielder, has been a key player for Barcelona Femení, contributing significantly to their league title win. Her exceptional passing range, control, and determination have caught the attention of fans and pundits alike.

Alessia Russo, an Italian forward, has been one of the top scorers in the Women's Super League this season. Her clinical finishing, hold-up play, and movement off the ball make her a nightmare for defenders to deal with.

Last but not least, Patri Guijarro, a Spanish midfielder from Atletico Madrid's youth academy, has made an impressive debut for the senior team. His vision, creativity, and work rate have impressed coaches and teammates alike, earning him recognition as one of Spain's top young talents.

These five talented players will compete to be crowned the 2025 BBC Women's Footballer of the Year, an honor that will recognize their outstanding contributions to the sport over the past year.

I'm not convinced about this whole award thing 🤔. It just seems like a way for people to brag about how good they are at football without actually doing anything groundbreaking. I mean, it's just five more players who scored goals and won championships, what's so special about that? Can't we just focus on the game itself instead of giving out awards? And what's with all these new-age stats and analytics? It's like they're trying to turn football into a science experiment 😒. Give me a good old-fashioned match any day! 👊

OMG, can't wait for this award ceremony! 🎉 I'm so excited to see which talented player will take home the prize 🏆. Aitana Bonmati's speed and agility on the pitch are giving me major inspiration to get moving myself 💨. Hannah Hampton's goalscoring record is insane! 😍 And Alessia Russo's clinical finishing skills are like a dream come true for any football fan 🙌. I think it's amazing that we have so many strong contenders, each with their own unique style of play 🤩. Can't wait to see who will be crowned the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year! 👏

omg u guys i'm like so excited about this news 🤩! i've been following these female footballers for ages and they're all literally insane on the pitch 🤯 aitana's speed is insane and hannah's finishing ability is next level 💪 mariona's passing range is so underrated but patsy's creativity is everything 🤓 Alessia's goals are always on point and i'm loving the underdog story with patri 😍 can't wait to see who wins this award 👏

Ugh, great, just what we need another award for people to inflate their egos... I mean, who gets to decide these things anyway? It's probably just a bunch of biased pundits and fans who only have eyes for the more popular players. Bonmati getting shortlisted is no surprise though, she's been playing well. But what about all the other talented players out there who don't get the recognition they deserve? And what's with the obsession with Italian and Spanish footballers? Don't English players ever get a break anymore? 🤔🏀

I'm so sick of these award shows and the platform they're on. Can't they just have a simple website or forum for people to discuss without all the drama and hype? 🤦‍♀️ It's always about who's getting the attention, not the actual footballers. And don't even get me started on the BBC's website, it's like they want us to click on every single link and watch these videos... it's just too much! 😩 The fact that Aitana Bonmati, Hannah Hampton, Mariona Caldentey, Alessia Russo, and Patri Guijarro are all contenders for this award is great, but let's keep the focus on the football, not the website or platform we're using to discuss it. 🏀💨
