Quarterfinal Matchups Decide IHSA State Football Semifinalists in Class 8A, 7A, 6A, 5A, and Below

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state football quarterfinals have come to a close, with many highly seeded teams making their way to the semifinals. In Class 8A, top-ranked Mount Carmel dominated Lincoln-Way East 48-7, while Fremd edged out Bolingbrook 34-33. Lockport, meanwhile, secured a first-round win over Barrington 35-0.

In Class 7A, St. Rita cruised past Hersey 56-42 and will face off against Batavia in the semifinals. Downers Grove North also advanced to the next round with a convincing 28-10 victory over Lincoln-Way West.

Fenwick continued its impressive run in Class 6A, downing Burlington Central 49-21 and setting up a matchup against Nazareth in the semifinals. East St. Louis dominated Simeon 49-0, while St. Laurence edged out Dunlap 28-14 to reach the semifinals.

In Class 5A, St. Francis knocked off King 44-14 and will face Belvidere North in the next round. Oak Forest defeated Peoria 34-20 to advance to the semifinals. Providence also made a deep run, beating Washington, Ill. 39-6 to set up a matchup against Oak Forest.

The quarterfinals saw several upsets in Class 4A, including Montini's 35-0 shutout of Coal City and Morris's 28-26 win over Geneseo. Breese Central also moved on with a 36-12 victory over Cahokia, while Rochester dominated Sacred Heart-Griffin 41-35 in overtime.

In Class 3A, Richmond-Burton dispatched Monmouth-Roseville 31-6 and Byron beat IC Catholic 28-6 to reach the semifinals. Tolono Unity also advanced with a 42-7 win over Williamsville, while St. Joseph-Ogden defeated Vandalia 38-24.

The quarterfinals in Class 2A saw Wilmington shut out Tri-Valley 49-7 and El Paso-Gridley beat Farmington 32-15 to reach the semifinals. Maroa-Forsyth also moved on with a 48-12 win over Flora, while Arthur-Lovington defeated Westville 42-35.

Finally, in Class 1A, Stockton dominated Dwight 44-0 and Lena-Winslow beat Annawan-Wethersfield 42-20 to reach the semifinals. Brown County edged Carrollton 37-13 to advance to the next round, while Calhoun defeated Casey-Westfield 28-21.

These matchups will determine the IHSA state football champions in each of these classes.
 
🏈 so the playoffs are heating up now... i think it's awesome that all these teams made it to the semifinals, but you gotta say that some of those upsets were crazy! like montini just shut out coal city 35-0 and morris pulled off an upset against geneseo 🤯. fenwick is looking good too, they're gonna take down nazareth in class 6a... fingers crossed for them! 🤞
 
You know what's crazy? Football games and their score margins 🤣 Just kidding, sorta! Anyway, I gotta say, it was a wild ride in the quarterfinals, with so many upsets and dominating performances. Like, Mount Carmel just destroyed Lincoln-Way East 48-7... that's like me beating my arch-nemesis at Mario Kart for the 12th time 🎮. Fremd edged out Bolingbrook by one point? That's like winning a heated debate about who's the better superhero (Thor vs. Spider-Man, btw) - it's all about those extra points 💥. And on the flip side, Lockport shut down Barrington 35-0... that's like me finally beating my sibling at video games after years of trying 😂. All jokes aside, it'll be awesome to see these teams go head-to-head in the semifinals! Let's get this football party started 🎉
 
I'm thinking Class 6A is gonna be a blast to watch 🤔. Fenwick and Nazareth are both high-powered offenses, so we're looking at a real shootout here. I also think East St. Louis is gonna run roughshod over the competition in their class - that team has got some serious talent 🔴
 
I'm loving this Illinois high school football season so far 🤩! It's always great to see all these talented teams competing against each other. St. Rita looks like the team to beat in Class 7A, but you can never count out Batavia 😎.

Fenwick's run in Class 6A is so impressive, I'm curious to see how Nazareth will match up against them 🤔. And Providence beating Washington, Ill.? That's a major upset alert 🔥! Oak Forest vs Providence? This one has me hyped 🎉. Montini shutting out Coal City? Nice! Breese Central's win over Cahokia was a big deal 🎊.

Tolono Unity's 42-7 win over Williamsville? Wow, what a difference-maker 😲! El Paso-Gridley beating Farmington? That's an impressive comeback story 💥. Stockton dominating Dwight 44-0? Woohoo, let the playoffs begin 🏈!

I'm not sure about these matchups yet, but I'm loving the excitement and unpredictability of it all 🎊! Bring on the semifinals, baby!
 
aww man, so much excitement going on right now 😊🏈 i think its awesome how all these high school teams are working together to make this state football tournament so epic 🤝. they've been training for months and now its time to shine 💫. cant wait to see which teams come out on top in the semifinals 🎉. good luck to everyone who made it through to the next round 💪

I'm also loving the Cinderella story in Class 4A with Montini shutting out Coal City 😲. And Breese Central's win over Cahokia was a major surprise - they're definitely on the rise 🚀!

😩 I'm still trying to process all those crazy scores! I mean, what is wrong with Bolingbrook? They get creamed by Fremd and then lose again in the first round... 🤯 How do they even make it this far?! 😂 And can't wait to see the finals, Mount Carmel looks like a beast in Class 8A 💪. Also, I'm loving Fenwick's run in Class 6A, they're on fire 🔥!

lol i mean who didnt see fremd beating bolingbrook lol thats crazy how fenwick is doing so good in class 6a gotta root for st joseph ogden in class 3a richmond burton destroyed monmouth roseville that was a blowout win in class 2a maroa-forsyth is on fire wilmington shut out tri valley its like they werent even trying

oh man my kid's team lost in the quarter finals last year and now they're all cheering on their friends who made it to semis 🤩🏈 gotta be tough for them but so proud! i think it's awesome how many teams from different schools are making it this far, it just goes to show that with hard work and determination, anyone can achieve their dreams 💪🔥
 
🏈 So i'm thinking about how crazy it is that these teams are making it to the semis after beating some really tough opponents already 🤯. like mount carmel was dominating lincoln-way east 48-7 and fremd edged out bolingbrook by just one point! what a game 😲. and st rita's run in class 7a is insane they just beat hersey 56-42 👊. but you know who the real underdogs are? the teams in class 1a stockton dominated dwight 44-0 🤯 and lena-winslow beat annawan-wethersfield 42-20 💪. these kids have heart and it's so inspiring to see them making deep runs in the tournament 👏
 
You know I'm always down for some high school football action 😂. But let's be real, these teams are going to have to bring their A-game if they wanna make it to the final four. I mean, Class 8A has Mount Carmel, but what about them other schools in that bracket? Fremd was a bit lucky against Bolingbrook, if you ask me.

And don't even get me started on the underdog stories - Montini's 35-0 shutout of Coal City is just the best 💪. I love seeing those Cinderella stories come true. But at the same time, some of these teams are gonna have to step up their game if they wanna take down the big boys.

I'm all for it though! The thrill of high school football never gets old 🏈. Bring on the semifinals and let's see what these teams are made of 🔥
