A snowboarder got buried upside down in snow. See skier’s quick reaction. | CNN

A harrowing scene unfolded on the slopes of Mt. Baker in Washington, where a snowboarder became trapped upside down in a tree well. Fortunately, skier Francis Zuber was quick to react and sprang into action, demonstrating a textbook example of what to do in such an emergency.

According to eyewitnesses, the snowboarder had wandered too close to the edge of the trail and got stuck between two trees, with his board lodged in the narrow gap. Without hesitation, Zuber, who is an experienced skier and first responder, rushed to the scene, assessing the situation and determining the best course of action.

With calm precision, Zuber carefully maneuvered himself into position beside the trapped snowboarder, speaking reassuring words to keep him calm while also working to free him. It was a tense moment, but Zuber's expertise and composure ultimately paid off, and the snowboarder was successfully extracted from the tree well with only minor injuries.

Zuber's heroics have been widely praised as a model of first aid response in a complex situation, and his actions serve as a valuable reminder for skiers and snowboarders to take up rescue courses if they wish to be prepared in case of an emergency. The incident has also underscored the importance of being mindful of one's surroundings on the slopes and taking necessary precautions to avoid similar situations.

the whole thing got me thinking about how sometimes we just need someone to spot us, you know? like, if you're hanging off a cliff or stuck in a tree well, it's easy to feel lost and alone, but then someone like Francis Zuber comes along and makes all the difference. it's not just about having the skills or knowledge, but also about being present and able to connect with others in that moment. we should all take a page out of his book and prioritize our own safety, as well as the people around us 🤝

🙏 I'm just glad no one got seriously hurt, that tree well is super narrow and it could've been way worse 😬. It's awesome that Francis Zuber was there to help, his instincts and experience really paid off 💪. We should all be grateful for people like him who know how to stay calm in those kinds of situations 🙌. Now I'm just hoping the snowboarder is okay and recovering well from his injuries 😊. This whole thing is a good reminder to always look out for each other on the slopes, we're all in this together 🤜🤛!

This just goes to show, you need to have some basic knowledge and skills to handle these kinds of emergencies! It's like how our healthcare system is supposed to be able to handle all sorts of medical situations - but sometimes it feels like we're still waiting for people like Zuber to step up. I mean, what if this guy wasn't an experienced skier or first responder? We might've had a different outcome. And can we talk about the economy here for a second? With more people taking on ski jobs and other adventure sports, it's making me think about the gig economy - is this the future of work? Or are we just going to keep putting off our retirement plans until we're older...

😊 just can't believe what I'm reading about this guy who saved a snowboarder from getting hurt so badly... I mean, he just chillin' on the mountain, enjoying his ride, and then BAM! gets stuck in a tiny tree well. That's insane 🤯 And to think the rescue was done by another skier, Francis Zuber, it's like something out of a movie. His calmness and expertise are truly inspiring. I'm definitely going to look into those rescue courses now... you never know when you might need them 😅

idk about this... 🤔 I mean, Francis Zuber sounds like a total legend for sure, but I'm kinda thinking maybe he was just lucky? I mean, if someone's stuck in a tree well, they're pretty much screwed, you know? But then again, what if he's just that good at skiing and first aid? 🤷‍♂️ Like, did he really react so quickly because he knew exactly what to do, or was it just the natural response of an experienced skier who's been in similar situations before? 💭

And while it's true we should all be more aware of our surroundings on the slopes and take rescue courses, isn't that kinda obvious already? Like, don't we all know how to handle a situation like this? 🤷‍♂️ It's not like we're gonna get stuck in a tree well anytime soon... or are we? 😅

I'm just saying, this whole situation is a perfect example of what happens when you have trained professionals like Francis Zuber on the job 🤔. I mean, if he wasn't there with his first responder skills, who knows how that guy would've ended up 😬. It's all about being prepared and taking responsibility for your own safety, which is something we should all be doing, especially when it comes to our daily lives.

But let's not forget, this incident highlights the importance of having a strong support system in place 🤝. If Zuber wasn't there to help that snowboarder, who would've been? It just goes to show that even in emergency situations, teamwork and quick thinking can make all the difference 💪. And on a broader note, I think it's time we start prioritizing community safety initiatives and making rescue courses more accessible to everyone 🚨.

😩 just read about this crazy tree well incident at Mt Baker... 18-yr-old snowboarder got stuck upside down between trees 🤯 and it took an expert skier Francis Zuber like 10 mins to free him with minimal injuries tho 🙏 still shudders thinking about the poor dude's fright 😳 & what if another rescue person wasn't so calm & collected? 🤦‍♂️ hope they're doing ok now 👀

I was watching that clip on YouTube 🤯, can you believe that snowboarder got stuck upside down for like 10 minutes or something 😱? What a relief that Francis Zuber showed up and saved him! That guy's skills are insane 💪 I'm seriously considering taking a first aid course just in case something like this happens to me on the slopes. It's crazy how much of a difference experience can make in an emergency situation, you know? 🤝

🚨 this is what i'm talking about! someone actually saving a life on the slopes 🏂, you don't see that enough out there, and it just makes me wanna learn how to do something like that myself ⛰️, anyone know where i can get started with some rescue training?

omg can you believe this guy zuber just saved that snowboarder's life!!! 🤯 he's literally a hero! i'm so glad he reacted fast and knew what to do... tree wells are super sketchy, u know? anyway, it's def good to see ppl taking rescue courses and being aware of their surroundings on the slopes... makes me wanna grab my snowboard and hit the trails ASAP 😅🏂

I'm just glad nothin' worse happened to that guy 🤞. I mean, it was a close call for sure, but Francis Zuber's composure under pressure is really somethin'. It's like he's been in those situations before and knows exactly what to do ❤️. I've got a lot of respect for him, not just 'cause he saved that snowboarder, but also 'cause he showed that same level of care and compassion even when no one was watchin' 👥. It's a great reminder to all us outdoor enthusiasts to always be aware of our surroundings and to take the necessary safety precautions... trust me, I've learned the hard way 😬.

🚨 OMG, this is insane!! I mean, I've heard of people getting stuck before but a tree well? 😱 That's like, super rare! 🤯 Francis Zuber is literally a hero for saving that snowboarder's life 💕. It just goes to show how important it is to take those rescue courses if you're into skiing/snowboarding. You never know when you'll need them 🤦‍♀️. I'm also glad the guy only had minor injuries, could've been way worse 😷. This is a great reminder to all us skiers/snowboarders to be more aware of our surroundings and take precautions 🚨💪

🤔 this is all just a bunch of scripted nonsense... anyone can pretend to save someone with a little training, but what about when you're actually in the middle of nowhere with no cell signal? how's he supposed to call for help then? 📞 and what's with the ' textbook example' - like we're all expected to know exactly what to do in every emergency situation? 🤦‍♂️ snowboarders need to be more aware of their surroundings, but let's not pretend that one guy's heroics are going to save everyone else from making a mistake... it's just too unrealistic 😒

idk about all these hero stunts... i mean, what's next? someone's gonna get stuck in a tree well and we'll be like "oh wow, look at them doin' CPR on themselves!!" 🤦‍♂️ it's just glad the dude was okay, but can't help thinkin' about how many times people are gonna get hurt 'cause they're not payin' attention to where they're goin'. and yeah, take a rescue course, sounds like a good idea... doesn't mean we all have to be heroes like Zuber 😅

I cant believe how lucky that guy was, stuck upside down in a tree well like that. 🤯 I mean, you just never know what can happen when youre out shredding the gnar, right? It's a total wake-up call for skiers and snowboarders to be more aware of their surroundings and take safety precautions seriously. Like, who teaches these people how to respond in a situation like that? 🤔 Should've taken a rescue course for sure... now I'm thinking about getting one too 😅

🤯 just when you think people aren't saving lives out there... skier Francis Zuber's reaction is insane! i mean, getting stuck in a tree well and being trapped upside down? no joke! his calmness and expertise are seriously inspiring 🙏. and yeah, take those rescue courses, it's not something to be taken lightly on the slopes 😬. great reminder for us all to be aware of our surroundings and look out for each other 👫

Man, can you believe this? Some kid gets stuck in a tree well at Mt Baker and what do we get is some hero, Francis Zuber, saving his life! 🙌 I mean, that guy is like a real-life superhero... or at least, should be. What's crazy is that it was just a simple mistake on the kid's part – got too close to the edge of the trail and now he's stuck. But Zuber, being the pro he is, stays calm and saves the day.

It's a good reminder for all us skiers out there: take those rescue courses, know what you're doing in case of an emergency! Don't be like that kid – take it from Zuber, your life could depend on it. And can we just say... wow? 😮 I mean, this guy is the real deal.

I'm just worried that this isn't the first time we've seen someone get stuck like that... remember that dude who got trapped under the ice at X Games a few years back? 🤕 What if he wasn't as lucky as Francis Zuber here? I mean, those tree wells can be super unforgiving. And you know what's even more concerning - all these new skiers and snowboarders are hitting the slopes without knowing how to respond in an emergency situation... it's like they think it won't happen to them.

😊 Life is full of unexpected twists, but with heroes like Francis Zuber around, we know that help is just a rescue away! "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." 💪
