A snowboarder got buried upside down in snow. See skier’s quick reaction. | CNN

A skier's swift response saved a snowboarder who had become trapped upside down in a tree well on Mount Baker, Washington. The harrowing footage captured the moment when Francis Zuber, an experienced skier and paramedic, sprang into action after witnessing the distressing scene.

The snowboarder, whose identity was not disclosed, had apparently entered a tree well without realizing it would be impassable. With no clear means of escape, the situation seemed dire.

Zuber's actions were met with widespread praise as he expertly navigated the challenging terrain to reach the stranded snowboarder. In a heart-stopping moment, Zuber carefully extricated the snowboarder from the tree well, ensuring both his own and the victim's safety.

Witnesses described the rescue as "textbook" in terms of technique and bravery, and many praised Zuber for his composure under pressure. His actions also highlighted the importance of taking up rescue courses to develop essential skills in such high-risk situations.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks involved in backcountry skiing and snowboarding, particularly when navigating challenging terrain like tree wells. It underscores the need for careful planning, preparation, and awareness to minimize the risk of accidents.

I'm still getting goosebumps thinking about that rescue video 🤯! I mean, can you even imagine being stuck upside down in a tree well? 😱 Francis Zuber's calm and collected demeanor is truly inspiring - he's like a hero from an action movie 💥. But what really impressed me was how much planning went into this rescue. It's not just about reacting to emergencies; it's also about knowing your limits and having the right skills to handle situations like these.

I think we can all learn from Zuber's example - whether you're a skier, snowboarder, or just an adventure-seeker, taking up rescue courses is so important. It's not just about being prepared for accidents; it's also about knowing how to stay safe in the first place 🙏. This incident was a sobering reminder that even with all our gear and knowledge, we're still human and subject to risks - but by being proactive and taking care of ourselves, we can minimize those risks and enjoy the thrill of exploring the great outdoors! 💪

🏔️😱 I'm still shakin' my head thinkin' about that snowboarder gettin' stuck in that tree well! It's a good thing Francis Zuber was there with his paramedic skills to save that dude's life 🙌. What I find really impressive is how calmly he handled the situation, even though it must've been super stressful for him too 💡. It just goes to show you, bein' prepared and knowin' what to do in an emergency can literally mean the difference between life and death 🕊️. If more folks took up rescue courses, I reckon there'd be fewer situations like this 😊. Just a sobering reminder for all us thrill-seekers out there!

😅 Just saw this amazing rescue video on YouTube! 🤯 Francis Zuber is a total hero 😊. I mean who wouldn't want to be a superhero in real life? 💪 But seriously, it's crazy how calm and focused he was during that whole situation 👀. And wow, what a close call for the snowboarder 🤕. Like, no clear way out of there 😱. Glad he got rescued safely 💦. Definitely getting me to sign up for those rescue courses now 📚💪. You can never be too prepared when it comes to adventure sports ⛷️. Can't stress enough how important safety is in the backcountry ❄️. So yeah, total props to Zuber 👏!

OMG, CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS GUY FRANCIS ZUBER SAVED THAT SNOWBOARDER!!! 😲💪 HE'S A HERO FOR SURE! THE WAY HE CALMLY EXTRICATED THAT GUY FROM THAT TREE WELL WAS MIND-BLOWING. I MEAN, WHO ENTERS A TREE WELL WITHOUT CHECKING IF IT'S PASSABLE?! 🤦‍♂️ IT JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO DO RESEARCH AND BE PREPARED WHEN YOU'RE OUT IN THE BACKCOUNTRY. KUDOS TO ZUBER FOR HIS HEROIC ACTIONS AND ALSO TO THOSE WHO TAKEN UP RESCUE COURSES! 💕

Wow 🤯, I mean what a hero! Francis Zuber is literally a lifesaver! 💕 His reaction time must've been insane to know something was wrong and jump into action like that. And the fact that he's also a paramedic? Mind blown 😲, I'm sure his training definitely helped in that situation. It's crazy how some people just take risks for the sake of adventure, but it's awesome to see someone else stepping up to help them out when things go wrong 🤝

omg I just saw this video on youtube and it's literally insane that person was stuck upside down in a tree well 😱... I don't know how they even knew they were going to die lol... so anyway what's with all these crazy ski/snowboard videos like that? do people really watch this stuff for fun or are you just trying to get your adrenaline fix? 🤯 I also saw some skiers talking about how hard it is to take rescue courses and it makes me think, shouldn't they just teach people how to not fall into tree wells in the first place? 😂 like a survival guide or something.

🤦‍♂️ I mean, great, another rescue on camera so everyone can be reminded of how reckless it is to ski/snowboard in those crazy tree wells... like people learn from this? 🙄 The fact that there's even a "tree well" means you shouldn't be trying that stuff. And Zuber's just lucky no one died (yet?). All the praise is for his training, but what about all the others who might not know how to handle themselves in a similar situation? It's like, basic common sense would tell you to check your surroundings before going full-on recklessness on a mountain... 🤷‍♂️

🚨 I'm still shakin' after watchin' that footage! Francis Zuber's got some serious ninja skills 😱. I mean, who else can navigate those treacherous tree wells without losin' their cool? It's not just about bein' an experienced skier and paramedic, it's about stayin' calm in the face of panic. 🙏 The fact that he didn't put himself at risk while savin' that snowboarder says a lot about his character. We should all take note from this hero's example and get ourselves those rescue courses ASAP! 💪

omg that's so cool! 🤩 i mean i've seen some crazy stuff on the mountain before but this is insane. i'm literally impressed by zuber's composure under pressure – it's like he just took a deep breath and went in there to save that guy. 🙏 and i love how witnesses are calling his technique 'bookcase' – i guess when you're doing something as cool as that, you gotta bring the textbook skills 😎. anyway, safety first, right? we should all be more like zuber and take those rescue courses so we can help out in situations like this 🏥💪

omg that's insane... i mean, can u imagine being stuck upside down in a tree well with no way out? 🤯 it's a miracle he was saved by that skier who just happened to be there at the right time. i've seen some crazy rescues before, but this one takes the cake. the fact that the guy was able to stay calm and get his friend out safely is just incredible. it's always sobering when you see someone put themselves in harm's way like that to save another person. anyway, definitely gotta take a rescue course if u wanna venture into backcountry skiing... it's just not worth the risk 😂🏔️

I'm still shaking my head over this rescue 🤯😲 Francis Zuber's response was insane! I mean, who gets stuck upside down in a tree well? Not exactly a beginner's move 😂. But seriously, that guy's composure under pressure is seriously inspiring. I've seen some crazy stuff on the mountain before, but this takes the cake 🎂. It just goes to show how important it is to take those rescue courses and get trained up – you never know when you'll need to act fast in a situation like this.
