A Week of Worth-It Bites in New York City

From the vibrant streets of Astoria to the luxurious Upper East Side, every visit to New York City feels like a culinary adventure. With its diverse neighborhoods and eclectic mix of cultures, NYC offers endless options for foodies looking to try something new.

For a truly unforgettable experience, consider staying at the Loews Regency New York. This hotel offers spacious rooms with kitchenettes and microwaves, making it the perfect base for exploring the city's top eats. Be sure to check out Mayahuel in Astoria for delicious Northern and Coastal Mexican cuisine, including freshly pressed masa and bottomless mimosas.

For a taste of Asia, head to Oda House on the Upper East Side. This family-owned gem serves up authentic Georgian dishes like khinkali (handheld soup dumplings) and adjaruli khachapuri (cheese-topped bread). Be sure to try the chanakhi stew, which has been a favorite since your visit.

If you're looking for a more modern take on traditional cuisine, consider Yoon Haeundae Galbi, a fine dining Korean BBQ restaurant. This spot offers an extensive menu of cold and hot appetizers, stews, rice, and noodles, all expertly prepared at the table. Don't miss the uni mentaiko rice, which is an umami bomb with truffled mayo.

For a unique dining experience, try Nusr-et Steakhouse for a showy, Instagram-worthy meal. This restaurant offers expertly grilled steaks, fresh seafood, and inventive cocktails, all in a dramatic setting that's sure to leave you impressed. Be sure to skip the baklava and finish with the basque cheesecake.

If you're looking for a more laid-back dining experience, consider Gui Steakhouse. This Midtown spot offers expertly prepared American-Korean fusion cuisine, including seafood options like oysters topped with uni and bone-in rib eye grilled over live wood fire. Don't miss the dolsot bibimbap, which is paired beautifully with the grilled meat.

For a truly immersive experience, try Tatiana by Kwame Onwuachi for Afro-Caribbean fare "by way of the Bronx." This restaurant offers a balance between familiar and exciting dishes like curried goat patties, jerk lamb ribs, and crispy eggplant curry. Be sure to skip dessert (just kidding – it's phenomenal).

If you're looking for a sushi experience that goes beyond traditional omakase, consider Sushi Nakazawa for lunch. This one-Michelin-starred spot offers an incredible chef's counter spread of 20 pieces of nigiri, including uni and snow crab.

When it comes to activities in NYC, there are plenty of options to suit every interest. Consider taking a guided fishing trip in Central Park, which is catch-and-release only but offers a unique and memorable experience. Alternatively, try Sofar Sounds for an intimate concert experience with emerging artists in various venues throughout the city.

For transportation, Gotham Ride offers direct flights from Milwaukee to Newark, which proved to be a lifesaver when my flight was delayed due to thunderstorms. Their driver even provided tour-guide-style commentary en route and offered cold beverages and snacks during the ride.

Finally, for those looking to explore the cannabis scene in NYC, consider visiting Gotham Cannabis Dispensary. This dispensary offers high-quality products, expert guidance, and a lifestyle hub with events like Summer Fridays and book signings. Be sure to check out their four locations throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.
