“Abolish ICE” Is More Popular Than Ever. How Will Democrats Drop the Ball This Time?

A surge in public support for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has left Democrats struggling to find a middle ground. This shift in public opinion is largely driven by the violent and oppressive actions of ICE agents, particularly in the recent killing of Renee Goode, a US citizen who was fatally shot by an ICE agent.

The growing number of Americans calling for the abolition of ICE has led to increased protests across the country, with many people demanding that the agency be dismantled. According to a recent poll, 46% of respondents support abolishing ICE, while only 43% oppose it. This is a significant increase from previous polls, which found that around 32% of Americans supported the idea.

Despite this growing public support, establishment Democrats have been hesitant to take a clear stance on the issue. Many top Democrats have expressed a desire to find common ground with those who oppose ICE, rather than taking a strong stance against it. This approach has been criticized by progressives, who argue that it is too moderate and fails to address the systemic problems with the agency.

Some Democrats have proposed incremental reforms to ICE, such as limiting its power to wear masks or restricting its use of deadly force. However, these proposals have been met with criticism from many on the left, who argue that they do not go far enough in addressing the agency's problematic practices.

The hesitation among Democrats to take a strong stance against ICE has been attributed to a desire to maintain their party's centrism and avoid alienating moderate voters. However, this approach may ultimately harm the party's reputation among progressives and those who are most affected by ICE's actions.

In order to win over public support and address the growing demand for the abolition of ICE, Democrats must take a clear stance against the agency and commit to dismantling it. This will require them to prioritize the concerns of marginalized communities and to develop policies that address the systemic problems with ICE.

Ultimately, the fate of ICE hangs in the balance, and Democrats have an opportunity to shape its future by taking a strong stance against the agency's oppressive practices. By doing so, they can demonstrate their commitment to justice and equality for all Americans.

I don’t usually comment but... I think it’s about time Democrats took a stand on this. All this talk of finding common ground and being centrist just doesn't cut it when it comes to issues like this. ICE is literally killing people, and you can't just sweep that under the rug. The fact that they're still debating whether to abolish it or not is just frustrating. I mean, what's the point of even having a party if you're not going to stand up for your constituents? 🤷‍♀️👎

I'm not surprised to see public support for abolishing ICE on the rise 🤔. The actions of those agents are just plain cruel 😡. But, I gotta say, it's a bit concerning that some Democrats are trying to find middle ground here 👀. It feels like they're still not taking the systemic problems with ICE seriously enough 💸.

I'm all for finding common ground and compromise, but this is a matter of life and death 🤯. We can't just water down the language on this issue or pretend it's something we can easily fix 💔. It's time for Democrats to take a clear stance against ICE and commit to dismantling it 💪.

I know some folks might be worried about alienating moderate voters, but I think that's just a cop-out 🤷‍♀️. The truth is, most Americans support justice and equality for all, not just those who are already privileged 🙌. We need Democrats to step up and lead on this issue 🔥.

ICE abolition is like healthcare - if we want it done right, someone gotta take the fall 🚫💔 Democrats are playing politics with lives, and it's gonna cost 'em in 2026. They're trying to find a middle ground, but the left is like, "No way, dude!" 🙅‍♂️ The establishment is all about centrism, but that just means they're afraid to take on the tough issues. We need bold action, not piecemeal reforms. If Democrats want to win over progressives and marginalized communities, they gotta own this issue. ICE is a symbol of systemic racism and oppression - it's time for a change 🔄💪

Umm... I just saw that video of Renee Goode being shot by an ICE agent... it was so scary 😱... I don't know how people like that get away with it?... I mean, 46% of people want ICE gone now?... but 43% still think it's okay?... what do you guys think is going on here? 🤔... I just wish politicians would make up their minds already... or maybe they just need to listen to the people more often? 🙏... my friend's cousin has a family member who was deported by ICE once, and she was so traumatized... it makes me wonder if we're doing enough to protect our citizens...

🚫 I'm not surprised to see public support for abolishing ICE on the rise 📈. The recent killing of Renee Goode is a wake-up call for many people to take action against an agency that's been shown to be willing to use deadly force against its own citizens 🤬.

Democrats need to stop trying to find common ground with those who oppose ICE and start taking a strong stance against the agency 🚫. The incremental reforms proposed by some Democrats just aren't enough 🙅‍♂️. What's needed is a bold plan to dismantle the agency and address the systemic problems that have led to so much harm and suffering.

Progressives need to keep pushing for this change because it's not just about justice for marginalized communities, it's about basic human rights 💥. We can't afford to compromise on this issue anymore 🚫.

ICE has been going on for ages now 🙄 what's next? They got to take a real hard look at how they're treating these people & make some serious changes. 46% of ppl supporting abolishment is insane, like we gotta do better! We can't just leave ppl hanging like this. Those mods trying to find common ground with anti-ICE ppl are literally making it worse 🤦‍♀️ They should be using that 100% to listen to the people & make real change instead of playing politics.

ICE has been a total mess 🤯, people are getting fed up with those agents acting like law enforcement but not really following the rules... I had a friend whose cousin was detained by ICE once and it was super scary for them, they didn't even do anything wrong just showing up late to work 😬. It's crazy how many people are now calling for its abolition, 46% is a big deal! 🤝 I think the Democrats need to take a firm stance on this one, if not it'll be hard to win back the trust of those who've been affected by ICE's brutal actions 💔

ICE abolition is like trying to escape from a never-ending loop of systemic oppression 😩. It's not just about finding common ground or proposing incremental reforms; it's about recognizing that ICE is an institution built on inequality and injustice. Those who are hesitant to take a strong stance against it might be afraid of being seen as extreme, but what's the point of being moderate if you're just going to perpetuate the same old problem? 🤷‍♂️ The public support for abolition is growing because people are finally waking up to the harsh reality of ICE's actions. It's time for Democrats to listen to those voices and take a stand for justice, even if it means ruffling some feathers. 🔥
