Bakhmut Braces for Intense Fighting as Russian Forces Press On
Ukrainian tanks are seen near the frontline area amid the Russia-Ukraine war, in Bakhmut, Ukraine, on April 02.
The situation along the front lines in eastern Ukraine remains grim, with reports indicating little change despite intense shelling from both sides. The Ukrainian military has confirmed that more than 45 enemy attacks were repelled in the past day, with a focus on key locations such as Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Mariinka.
According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander of Ukrainian Land Forces, the enemy is trying to take full control over Bakhmut city, but has faced significant resistance. Syrskyi also claimed that the enemy is "weakening" and attempting to cover up its losses with false reports about capturing key cities.
Heavy fighting continues in the Avdiivka area, where Russian forces have surrounded Ukrainian positions on three sides. Denis Pushilin, leader of the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic, reported that Russian forces are still advancing towards Kamianka.
Despite the challenges, Ukrainian military officials say there have been operational successes in the Donetsk area, including taking key positions and gaining a strategic advantage. However, they acknowledge that both sides face significant difficulties due to terrain and weather conditions.
Russian special forces have also been introduced into the region, according to Oleksii Dmytrashkivskyi, spokesperson for the military in the zone. He warned that the enemy is trying to attack Ukrainian positions between Avdiivka and Mariinka, but has suffered significant losses.
The ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine continues to take a toll on both sides, with each side suffering heavy casualties and infrastructure damage.
