Trump's lawyers urge judge to deny media request for live broadcast of his arraignment, citing security concerns and a desire to avoid "circus-like atmosphere."

In a letter to New York Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchant, lawyers for former President Donald Trump told the court that they oppose a request by media outlets to broadcast Trump's arraignment on Tuesday. They argue that allowing cameras into the courtroom would create a "circus-like atmosphere" and raise unique security concerns.

The Trump team also claims that broadcasting the arraignment live would be inconsistent with President Trump's presumption of innocence, adding that any video or photography of the proceedings could only heighten these serious concerns.

Their letter, which includes several lawyers signing off on it, was submitted to the court just hours after CNN, among other outlets, requested camera access for the arraignment.

The Manhattan District Attorney's office has also responded to the media request, saying that they will defer to the judge to decide how best to manage his courtroom. However, prosecutors noted that there does not appear to be a categorical prohibition on cameras during an arraignment under existing New York statutes and case law.

In contrast, when asked for comment on a similar request for audio-video broadcasting in 2021, Judge Juan Merchant had allowed a limited number of still photographs to be taken prior to the commencement of proceedings.

🤔 I don't get why Trump's team is being so super cautious about live broadcasting his arraignment. Like, what's gonna happen if someone gets hurt or something? Is it really worth hiding it from the public? 📺 And what's with the "circus-like atmosphere" thing? It sounds like they're just trying to control the narrative and make themselves look bad. I mean, if Trump is innocent, why not let everyone see him get arraigned? Maybe it'll show he's taking responsibility for his actions. 🤷‍♂️ The public deserves some transparency here.

omg I just love watching trials live 🤯 like who needs security concerns though? its all about keeping it drama-filled... or is that what trump's team wants us to think? 😒 i mean can't they just let us see how the other half lives? like, in a courtroom setting. and whats with the "circus-like atmosphere" thing? are they worried we'll all start doing the cha cha slide during testimony? 🤣 seriously though, isnt it cool that we get to see trump's arraignment live on tv? ill be glued to my screen 📺👀

Yeah, because live TV isn't a circus at all... 🤣 I mean, who needs transparency and accountability when you can have Trump's lawyers trying to control the narrative? Security concerns, huh? Sounds like they're more worried about Trump's hair being blown by the cameras than actual security. And what's up with this "circus-like atmosphere" thing? Did someone tell them that's a real thing? 🙄 Anyway, I guess it's not up to the public to decide how much they want to know about their democracy in action... or lack thereof... 😒

I'm so done with this whole situation 🙄🚫. Can't we just let Trump get arraigned without all the drama? Like, it's not a presidential debate or a fashion show on catwalk 💃🕺. It's just a simple court thingy. And what's with the "circus-like atmosphere" excuse? Is that even a real thing? 😂 I'm pretty sure the only circus is happening in Trump's head 🤡. Can we just have some transparency and let the people see their former President get booked like everyone else? It's not like he's above the law or anything 🤑.

I'm not sure why they're being so secretive about this whole thing... I mean, it's Trump's arraignment, right? Shouldn't we at least get to see how he's doing? 🤔 The "circus-like atmosphere" argument just seems like a weak excuse to me. I've been following these cases for a while now and I think it's time someone actually held him accountable... I'm surprised they're not being more open about this whole thing, considering how many people are paying attention.

The security concerns thing is pretty legit, though - we don't want any chaos in that courtroom 🚫. But at the same time, this is a public figure who's been in the news nonstop for years. I think it's only fair that we get to see some level of transparency, even if it's just a live broadcast.

I'm not sure what's going on with Trump's team and their lawyers, but it seems like they're trying to spin this in a way that's good for them rather than giving the public an accurate picture 📝. I'll be keeping an eye on this situation, for sure...

omg, a "circus-like atmosphere"? really? like, we're all just supposed to believe that and not have an opinion about it 🤣 also, isn't this kinda like when your aunt's wedding starts and everyone's like "oh no, what if someone gets hurt"? newsflash: arraignments happen in courthouses, not circus tents 🎪. and btw, if there's nothing in the law against cameras, why did they get to make all these rules just now? seems kinda arbitrary...

🤔 This whole thing feels so dramatic 📺. Like, I get it, security concerns and all that 🚫, but can't we just have some transparency here? It's not like they're trying to hide anything from us. And, honestly, isn't this arraignment supposed to be about accountability? shouldn't we be able to see how the justice system is playing out? 🤷‍♀️ I'm all for keeping things respectful and orderly in court, but live broadcasting it seems like a reasonable request to me. Maybe they're just trying to control the narrative? 📰

this is just another example of them trying to control the narrative. they don't want you to see trump's arraignment in all its glory - live on tv for the world to see. it's like they're hiding something from us. and what's with these security concerns? they can't have it both ways, either allow cameras or raise a fuss about it. i'm telling ya, this is just another move by the powers that be to keep us in the dark. 🤥
