Babson freshman deported while trying to fly home for Thanksgiving

A college freshman's Thanksgiving plans were brutally derailed when a deportation order, made over a decade ago, kicked in unexpectedly. Lucia Lopez Belloza, 19, from Boston, was on her way to Texas to surprise her family for the holiday, but instead found herself being detained by immigration officials and ultimately sent back to Honduras - the country she left as a child.

Lopez Belloza's attorney, Todd Pomerleau, claims that she had no knowledge of any deportation order, despite it having been made in 2015. According to Pomerleau, the only record he has found is that her case was closed in 2017, casting doubt on the validity of the order. "They're holding her responsible for something they claim happened a decade ago," he stated, highlighting the government's lack of proof.

A federal judge had previously issued an emergency order to prevent the government from moving Lopez Belloza out of Massachusetts or the United States for at least 72 hours. However, ICE appears to have disregarded this ruling, leading to her deportation. When questioned about violating the court order, ICE did not respond.

Lopez Belloza is now staying with her grandparents in Honduras and has expressed her devastation at having her college dreams shattered. "That was my dream," she said. "I'm losing everything." Her case serves as a stark reminder of the complexities and challenges faced by undocumented immigrants in the United States, and the need for greater clarity and oversight in the deportation process.

In light of this incident, concerns are being raised about the efficacy of the US immigration system and the impact it has on young people like Lopez Belloza, who are caught up in a complex web of laws and regulations that often seem stacked against them.

๐Ÿค• This is just heartbreaking - Lucia's story is so tragic. It's crazy how one forgotten deportation order can ruin someone's life ๐Ÿ™. I mean, what even is the process for getting a deportation order dropped? It seems like it should be way more straightforward than that. And on top of that, ICE completely disregarded the emergency order - that's just reckless and irresponsible.

I don't think we can blame Lucia entirely for not knowing about this - she was only 5 when her parents left Honduras and have been living in the US since then ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. It's not like she had a chance to catch up on all the immigration paperwork or something!

We need to do some serious soul-searching about our immigration laws and make them way more compassionate ๐Ÿ™. Young people like Lucia deserve better - they're trying to build their lives in this country, but are being held back by system failures. It's just not fair ๐Ÿ‘Ž

๐Ÿค” this is just another example of how messed up our immigration system is ๐Ÿšซ, I mean, who makes a deportation order 10 years ago and then lets it sit for 8 years without notifying the person? ๐Ÿ“ didn't we used to have some kind of paperwork or notification system in place? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ and now Lucia's entire college future is ruined because of it ๐ŸŽ‰. I need to see more about how this happened, like who signed that order and when, and what exactly "closed" her case means ๐Ÿ“Š. this isn't just a personal story, it's a symptom of a bigger problem ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I'm telling you, something fishy is going on here ๐ŸŸ. Lucia's deportation order was made 10 years ago, but she had no idea it existed? That's just not adding up. And what about this record of her case being closed in 2017? Sounds like someone's trying to cover their tracks ๐Ÿšฎ. The fact that ICE disregarded the court order is just plain crazy. I mean, who ignores a judge's orders on purpose? This whole thing smells like a setup to me... ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿค” This is so fishy! I mean, think about it - Lucia's deportation order was made over a decade ago, but she only just found out? That's some pretty convenient timing, if you ask me... ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ And what's with the 'case was closed' thing? Is that just a cover-up? ๐Ÿ˜’ It sounds like there are some serious questions to be asked about how our immigration system works - or rather, doesn't work. I'm not saying Lucia did anything wrong, but it's clear that something went seriously wrong here... ๐Ÿšซ And what about all the other people who might have gotten swept up in this mess? It's a real conspiracy waiting to happen... ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿ˜ฑ this is insane! what's the point of having an emergency order if they just ignore it? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ it's like they want to keep Lucia in the dark about her own life... she was already in college, chasing her dreams, and now she has to leave everything behind because of some deportation order that nobody bothered to tell her about. ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ 2015 doesn't equal today, let alone a decade ago... how do we know what happened back then? it's just so unfair ๐Ÿค•

๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿค• Oh no, this is so sad ๐Ÿ˜” Lucia's life was turned upside down by something she had no idea about ๐Ÿ™ˆ The government should be more careful with these things โš ๏ธICE really needs to check their facts before moving forward ๐Ÿ’ก

It's not fair that Lucy has to lose her college dreams over a deportation order made years ago ๐Ÿ“ 10+ years after it was closed, too ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ Can't the system be more clear-cut and transparent? ๐Ÿค” The emergency order meant for protection didn't seem to do its job ๐Ÿšซ

Lucy's case is like a reminder that immigration laws can be super confusing ๐Ÿ˜ณ And when someone gets caught up in this mess, it's devastating ๐Ÿ’” She needs support and help right now ๐ŸŒŸ Not just empty promises of fixing the system ๐Ÿค

This is crazy ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, can you imagine having your whole Thanksgiving plans ruined because of some deportation order from years ago? It's not fair to Lucia, especially since she had no idea it was still active. And what's with the government just disregarding the court order? That's like, totally unacceptable ๐Ÿšซ.

I don't know about the specifics of her case, but it's clear that the system is broken and needs some serious reform. I mean, how are people supposed to live their lives without knowing if they're going to get deported at any minute? It's just too much stress and uncertainty. And for a college freshman, losing all her plans for Thanksgiving is like, devastating ๐Ÿ˜”.

We need to do better than this as a country. We need to make sure that our immigration system is fair, clear, and protects people's rights. No more surprises like this! ๐Ÿšซ

Wow ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ‘Ž! This is so messed up! A college freshman's whole life is being ruined because of some deportation order she didn't even know about? It's not fair to her or her family ๐Ÿค•. How can the government just swoop in like this and take someone away from their loved ones without even following the proper procedures? It's crazy that ICE ignored a court order too, that's just outrageous ๐Ÿ˜ก. We need to make sure these kind of cases don't happen again! ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ˜ฑ what's going on with this girl's life?! she just wants to surprise her family for Thanksgiving and ends up being deported back to Honduras ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ณ like, what even is the point of having an immigration system if it can't protect people from arbitrary deportation orders?

and I'm so mad at ICE right now ๐Ÿ˜ก they disregarded a federal judge's order and just sent her away without even trying to verify the validity of that deportation order. like, where's the proof?! didn't she get any notice or anything?!

this case is super frustrating because it highlights how messed up our immigration system is ๐Ÿคฏ especially for young people who are just trying to make a life for themselves. what if this girl had made the wrong decision and ends up being stuck in some detention center or worse? ๐Ÿค•

anyway, I'm sending all my vibes to Lucia Lopez Belloza ๐ŸŒŸ hoping she gets her case sorted out and can get back to her college dreams ๐Ÿ’–

๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ˜ฑ can't believe what's happening to Lucia ๐Ÿ˜” her family, college life, everything she worked for just taken away because of some old order ๐Ÿ“ it's not right...ICE should know better than to disregard a court order ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ 72 hours shouldn't be enough time for them to figure this out ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ they need to go back and review all these cases from years ago โช and make sure everyone is treated fairly ๐Ÿค

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ just heard about Lucia! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ 10 years after her deportation order was made, she's still getting hit with the full force? ๐Ÿ™„ I mean, isn't it crazy how these orders just kinda... sit there until they magically become valid again? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ Like, what even is the process for correcting this kind of thing?! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Her case has me super worried about all those other undocumented kids out there who might be going through the same thing. We need to get our immigration system on track ASAP! ๐Ÿ’ช

This is just heartbreaking ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ˜ฉ. A 19-yr-old kid, barely out of high school, having her whole life turned upside down by an immigration issue from over a decade ago. It's just not right. I can imagine how devastated she must be, losing out on her college experiences and being torn away from her loved ones for who knows how long.

And the fact that ICE basically disregarded a court order is just alarming ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. What kind of system allows that to happen? We need some serious reforms in our immigration laws, pronto! This is exactly why we need more clarity and oversight - these young people are just trying to live their lives, but they're caught up in this crazy web of bureaucracy.

It's also got me thinking about all the other kids out there who might be facing similar issues. What's going to happen to them? Will they get the same fate as Lucia? It's just not fair ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ’”. We need to do better by our young people, especially those living in the shadows.

This is so messed up ๐Ÿคฏ! I mean, can't we just have some clarity on our immigration laws? It's crazy to think that someone's deportation order can just kick in out of the blue like this. And what's with all these loopholes and unclear records? It's like they're making it up as they go along. ICE is basically saying 'we don't need no stinkin' proof' ๐Ÿšซ. I'm not surprised there wasn't a response from them when questioned about violating the court order... that just reeks of corruption. What's going on with our country? Can't we just get it together and help people who are trying to start their lives here? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

๐Ÿค• It's just heartbreaking to hear about Lucia's story... I mean, what if she had actually made it to Texas on time? Would her family have even known she was coming? And now, she's stuck in Honduras with college dreams shattered ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ˜”. And can you believe the government went ahead and disregarded that court order? That's just ridiculous ๐Ÿ™„. I mean, we all know about the complexities of immigration laws, but this is just taking it too far... what kind of system do we have when a 19-year-old kid is being held responsible for something she doesn't even remember happening? ๐Ÿ˜• It's like, come on, government! Can't you see how this is affecting people's lives? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

omg have you guys tried those new pumpkin spice flavored chips from kirkland signet? ๐Ÿ˜‚ i mean idk if they're actually good but i had them with my lunch yesterday and they were kinda interesting lol anyway this deportation thing is wild how can someone get deported 10 yrs after something happened?? it's like, what even is the process lol did u know that the usa has a bunch of old laws from like the 1800s still on the books? ๐Ÿคฏ i mean, i'm all for being accountable but come on!!

can u believe this?? ๐Ÿคฏ they're basically deporting some poor college kid back to her home country just cuz of a deportation order from 2015... like what even is going on here? ๐Ÿ˜ก the gov's got no proof that she was aware of it and yet they're holding her responsible anyway. i mean, that emergency court order meant something for like 72 hours but apparently ice just ignored it ๐Ÿšซ. this is so messed up, lucia was literally trying to surprise her family for thanksgiving... now she gets to spend the holiday in honduras instead of texas ๐ŸŽ„. it's like they're playing some kinda cruel game with people's lives... need to do something about this ASAP ๐Ÿ‘Š

omg ๐Ÿ˜ฑ this is so unfair!!! lucia lopez belloza was just trying to surprise her family for thanksgiving ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ and instead gets detained by immigration officials ๐Ÿš”?!?! how can the us government do this to someone who's been here their whole life? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ my heart goes out to her, she's losing everything ๐Ÿ˜ญ. i'm so angry about this ๐Ÿคฌ i wish there was more awareness about the deportation process and how it affects people like lucia ๐Ÿ‘€ we need to fight for her right to stay in the us and finish her college dreams ๐Ÿ’ช

omg ๐Ÿคฏ i cant even imagine how scary & sad this is for lucia! deportation order just because of something thats supposed to be 10 yrs old? ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ how can they do this to a college student with her whole life ahead of her? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ she was just trying to surprise her family on thanksgiving too... what a cruel twist. i feel so bad for her & her fam ๐Ÿ’” its like, cant we just have a fair system that makes sense?! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿคฏ This is totally not right ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ! Lucia Lopez Belloza was just trying to surprise her family for Thanksgiving and instead gets detained and deported back to Honduras ๐ŸŒ. It's like, what even is the point of having a college education if you're just gonna get torn apart by the system? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ And it's not like she knew about this deportation order or anything - it was made 10 years ago! ๐Ÿคฏ The fact that ICE just disregarded the court order and did whatever they wanted is just appalling ๐Ÿšซ. We need to make sure our immigration system is fair and clear, not some convoluted mess that punishes innocent people like Lucia. ๐Ÿ™
