BBC will not fund pundits working for rival podcasts during World Cup

BBC officials have made it clear that they will not provide financial backing for leading pundits like Micah Richards to appear on rival podcasts during the World Cup.

Cost constraints, as well as concerns over reducing the corporation's carbon footprint, mean that most of the BBC's World Cup coverage will take place from its Salford studios. As a result, Richards is expected to be based there for much of the tournament, with a major role in hand.

However, Richards has also committed to appearing on The Rest is Football podcast, which will be hosted by Gary Lineker in New York and distributed through Netflix.

Lineker, who recently split from the BBC, will be working remotely from its US studio throughout the World Cup. While he may invite other pundits to join him when they are available, Richards's travel costs will need to be met by either Netflix or the production company behind the podcast.

Shearer, on the other hand, will be in the United States for co-commentary duties with the BBC, increasing his chances of meeting up with Lineker in person.

idk why bcs is being so stingy w/ micah's travel costs lol 😂 they're basically making him stay in salford the whole time & then expect him to just magically be available for lineker's podcast? that's not cool, mate 🤔 also what's with the carbon footprint thing tho? can't they just offset his flights or something? and why's shearer getting all the perks while micah gets none 🤑👀

omg i'm so surprised micah richards is getting a major role at the bbc studios 🤯 he's going to be based there for most of the tournament which means we won't get to see him on other podcasts like the rest is football 🤔 that podcast sounds lit but now it'll have to pay for his travel costs who do you think will win this logistical battle? 💸

I think this is a no-brainer 🤔, the BBC's stance on Micah Richards making appearances on rival podcasts during the World Cup is totally reasonable 💸, especially considering their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint 🌎. I mean, who can blame them for cutting costs when it comes to financial backing? It makes sense they'd want to keep everything under control while maintaining a strong presence in the UK.

I'm kinda curious though, how's this going to affect the World Cup coverage in general? Will we be missing out on any epic pundits' debates because of this 🤷‍♀️? The fact that Micah Richards will be working closely with Gary Lineker from their respective studios is a plus though 👍. It'll be interesting to see how Netflix handles the production costs for this podcast, hope it's worth it in the end 💕!

🤔 so Micah Richards is gonna be stuck in salford studio 24/7 during world cup 🌎 but at least he's still getting paid 💸 meanwhile Gary Lineker gets to chill in nyc and invite other pundits on his podcast 📺💻 what a life 😒

I'm not surprised about this 😐. I mean, think about it - the BBC is trying to cut costs and reduce its carbon footprint, which is a good thing, right? 🌎 But at the same time, they're still gonna let Shearer travel all the way to the States for co-commentary duties? That's just not adding up... unless Netflix is covering his travel costs 🤑. And what about Richards, huh? I feel bad for him - he was really looking forward to appearing on The Rest is Football podcast, especially with Lineker hosting 🤝. Guess we'll have to wait and see how that all plays out 💬.

omg i feel bad for micah richards lol he's gonna have to fork out his own cash 4 a trip 2 NYC 4 that podcast 🤦‍♂️ but i guess it's all part of the cost of bein' a big-name pundit in sports journalism, right? 😊 still think it's kinda cool that Gary Lineker is still goin' strong w/ his own podcast tho 💼 and Shearer's gettin' to chill out in the US for co-commentary duties 🤗

🤔 I'm so confused about this whole thing. Can't Micah Richards just chill at home during the World Cup like a normal guy? He's got a comfy studio setup and everything 😂. And why is Netflix gotta foot the bill for his travel costs? Like, can't they make it work or something? 🤑 It's not like he's asking for a fortune... unless you're Gary Lineker, apparently 👀. And btw, where's Alan Shearer's podcast gig at? 🤷‍♂️

omg, cant believe micah richards is gonna be stuck at the bbc studios 24/7 during the world cup 🤯 thats so boring 😴 and good luck getting that podcast gig sorted with netflix, cost constraints are no joke 💸 i mean shay given will be in the us but i dont think she's exactly free to roam around either 🗺️ lineker getting all comfy in his new home and then suddenly richards is expected to shell out for flights? not cool 👎

I'm so hyped about Micah Richards taking over as a pundit but at the same time I'm kinda bummed that he won't be popping up on other podcasts 🤔...the thing is tho BBC is doing its part to reduce their carbon footprint which is awesome 👍, but also what's good for the environment might not be so great for Micah's wallet 💸...anyway Lineker and Shearer are low-key getting some epic opportunities over here 🙌, especially with Lineker being able to roll up to NYC whenever he feels like it 😎

I'm actually kinda bummed about Micah Richards not getting the freedom to roam during the World Cup 🤔. As a footy fan, I love listening to his opinions and insights on The Rest is Football podcast - it's like having a pint down at the pub with Gary Lineker 😊. But yeah, I get it, cost constraints are real, and the BBC needs to keep its carbon footprint under control. It'll be interesting to see how Richards makes do with being stuck in Salford for most of the tournament ⏰... maybe he'll have some epic podcasts from his hotel room 📻👍

I'm so done with how the major podcasts are getting all the exclusives 🤯. I mean, Micah Richards is basically stuck in Salford for who knows how long just because the BBC wants to save a buck 💸. And now he's gonna be missing out on some cool American experiences 'cause of it 😔. On the other hand, Gary Lineker gets to hang out with Shearer in the States 🤝. Can't help but feel like The Rest is Football podcast is getting all the star power just 'cause Netflix has deep pockets 💸💻. And honestly, I'm more concerned about the environment 🌎 - all this travel for podcasts? It's gonna be a huge carbon footprint!

I'm all about this World Cup thing, but you know what's not fair? 🤔 Micah Richards trying to work around the BBC's new rules, huh? I mean, I get it, cost constraints and all that jazz... 🤑 But come on, he wants to be on The Rest is Football podcast, too. That's a whole different audience, and I think we should support our Brit pundits exploring other opportunities 💪. Meanwhile, Gary Lineker getting to work remotely from the US? That's just great for him, but what about the rest of us back in Blighty who want to see more British voices on the global stage? 🤷‍♂️ And let's not forget Shearer, trying to make a name for himself with the BBC... it's like they're playing favorites 🤝. Can't we just get some good old-fashioned sports journalism without all these politics getting in the way? 😒

I'm so done with pundits thinking they can just jump ship from one gig to another and still get all the perks 🤯. Like Micah Richards thinks he's gonna just waltz onto Netflix and get paid, meanwhile the BBC is trying to cut costs on their own World Cup coverage? Come on, man! It's like, be loyal or don't bother 🙅‍♂️.

And what's with the environmental thingy? I get it, we should all try to reduce our carbon footprint, but can't they just find a way to make Richards' appearances work for both the BBC and Netflix? It's not that hard, folks! 💸

I'm actually kinda stoked that Shearer is gonna be in the US for co-commentary duties with the BBC. That means he might finally get some quality time with Lineker 🤝. Guess I'll just have to tune in to The Rest is Football to see what all the fuss is about 😒

I'm low-key disappointed about this 🤔. I think it's a missed opportunity for both the BBC and The Rest is Football podcast to collaborate with each other. Micah Richards is a huge talent and having him on the show would've brought a fresh perspective. Plus, with Lineker hosting from New York, it could've been a cool cross-cultural thing 🌎. Instead, Richards has to shell out his own cash to travel to NY? It's not exactly fair to him, considering he's already doing a major role for the BBC. Maybe Netflix can pick up some of that tab or they can find another way to make it work?

Micah Richards is gonna be stuck in that Salford studio 24/7 during the World Cup 🤯 meanwhile Gary Lineker gets to chill in NYC and invite other guys on his podcast as needed 💸 it's all about the benjamins, right? 🤑

🤔 So I'm thinking, if Micah Richards is gonna appear on that US podcast, doesn't he gotta pay to travel all that way? 🚀 Like, what's the plan there? Is Netflix really gonna foot the bill for his flights or something? 🤑 Also, I get why the BBC wants to keep costs down and go green, but it seems a bit harsh on their pundits. 🌿 Maybe they could've found another way to make it work? 🤷‍♂️

omg what's going on w/ micah richards 🤯 i know he's a big deal but come on bbc can't afford him? like literally they're already making sacrifices to reduce their carbon footprint and now they wanna save money on podcasts too? 😒 still gotta respect the guy, tho. hope lineker's podcast is lit 💸 or at least gets decent subs

💸👀 so it's all about cost and climate control now. I think Micah Richards is gonna have to hustle hard to make that Netflix podcast gig work since he can't count on the BBC for a payday 🤑, but at least he's trying. Gary Lineker seems like a cool dude tho 👍, maybe he can bring some of that charm to his US studio setup 🎙️ anyway, I'm low-key curious to see how this whole thing plays out...
