Bears QB Caleb Williams: coach Ben Johnson was right about interception

Caleb Williams Concedes He Should Have Checked Down to Monangai on Interception Play.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has admitted that his decision to throw an interception in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Ravens was not the right one, but he believes it is a good lesson learned for him and the team.

Williams conceded that coach Ben Johnson was correct that throwing to Rome Odunze on a crossing pattern down by three was a bad idea. However, Williams said that running back Kyle Monangai was open in the flat at the time and that he should have checked down to him instead.

According to Williams, in that situation, "just go get Kyle the ball as fast as possible and then let him make a great play for us." He added that Monangai could have gained ten or more yards on the play.

The interception was a costly mistake for the Bears, who trailed by three before the Ravens scored 10 points to seal their 30-16 victory.

Ugh, Caleb Williams needs to work on his reads in the red zone πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Like, I get it, he's still young and trying to develop his skills, but throwing an interception with a clear open receiver like Monangai is just not acceptable πŸ™„. What if Monangai had gained 10+ yards on that play? It could've been the game-changer for the Bears πŸ€”. Coach Ben Johnson was spot on calling out Williams' decision, and it's good to see Caleb acknowledging his mistake. Now let's hope he takes this as a lesson learned and becomes a more savvy QB soon πŸ’‘.

ugh the web platform we use is literally making it hard for me to focus πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ i'm trying to read about calvin williams' game and every time i try to search for something specific on this forum, it keeps sending me down a rabbit hole of ads πŸ“Ί. can't they just give us a decent search bar? πŸ™„

πŸ€” I mean, I get it, Caleb Williams should've checked down to Monangai... but like, can you blame him for trying to make something happen on that play? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The Ravens were already up by three and the Bears were running out of time. It's not like they had nothing to lose at that point. Still, I guess it's a good lesson learned and all that... just gotta hope the Bears can learn from their mistakes and come back stronger next season 🏈πŸ’ͺ

come on Caleb πŸ™„, just check down to monangai already? it's not like you're gonna win any awards for most creative throws in NFL history. seriously though, that was a bad call by ben johnson to go with the crossing route, but at least williams is owning up to the mistake and saying what he should've done differently πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. monangai could've been a game-changer on that play, and instead we got an interception and a whole lot of nothing πŸ˜’. gotta give props to him for being honest about it though πŸ‘

😩 ugh I'm literally shaking with rage... can't believe this Caleb Williams kid... one sec, he's got the whole field open and he's just gonna pull up and throw it to Rome Odunze on a crossing pattern? 🀯 what was he even thinking?! πŸ™„ it's right there in front of him, Kyle Monangai is open in the flat, check down to him, FOR PETE'S SAKE! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ and now his team loses by 14 points... that interception alone is gonna be replayed on highlight reels for years to come πŸ‘€

omg, I don't get why QBs can't just check down to RBs when they're open πŸ€”... Caleb Williams is totally right, though - Kyle Monangai was wide open in the flat and it's a no-brainer to throw to him. It would've been a huge gain for the Bears. Coach Johnson might be on point with his play-calling, but sometimes QBs gotta trust their instincts and make smart decisions on the fly 🀯... I'm all for Caleb learning from this mistake tho πŸ’‘

Ugh I'm still getting salty thinking about that play... like what was Caleb Williams thinking?! 🀯 Monangai is open in the flat and he's just chillin' out there waiting for a pass, but noooo he decides to go for it on the deep ball instead πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. And then to make matters worse, coach Ben Johnson is right all along about throwing to Rome Odunze down by three... I mean I get it, the play wasn't set up well, but come on Caleb, just check down and let Kyle do his thing! πŸ’¨ Ten or more yards for Monangai could've totally changed the game 🀩. And now we're left with a 30-16 loss and a whole lot of what ifs... πŸ˜”

πŸ€” so this is what happens when you're on the field and your mind's racing... Caleb Williams is like "oh man I should've thrown it to Monangai in that situation" πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. But here's the thing, if he just checked down to him ASAP, maybe he coulda turned that interception into a gain πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ. It's not rocket science, right? Just go get Kyle the ball and let him do his thing πŸ’¨. And yeah, 10+ yards on the play wouldn't hurt πŸ˜…. Guess you learn from your mistakes... especially when it comes to high-pressure situations like that one 🀝.

I'm thinking of this play in my head... πŸ€”πŸˆ
So Caleb Williams thinks he should've thrown to Monangai on that interception pass? That's a good point, Monangai was open and all...

Imagine a simple Venn diagram with two circles:
Circle 1: Kyle Monangai is open in the flat
Circle 2: Caleb Williams checks down to Monangai
The overlap area: Bears gain 10+ yards on the play

If Williams had checked down, it would've been a great way to get Monangai involved and create some momentum. Now we're left wondering what could've been... πŸ˜”

omg I cant even lol @ Caleb Williams πŸ˜‚ he's gotta be kiddin me, throwin an int in the 4th quarter is a major brain fart ! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ but for real tho, I feel him, Coach Ben Johnson was right that throwin to Rome Odunze wasnt the move . but Monangai in the flat? that's where you gotta check down to bro πŸ‘€. he coulda gotten 10+ yards on that play easy 🏈. just imagine if they had gone with it... game changer 🀯. anyway, gotta give Williams props for bein honest about it tho. lesson learned πŸ’‘ and btw, Ravens fans r gonna love this one πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

omg i cant believe that interception play!!! 🀯 i mean i know it wasnt the end of the world and all but caleb williams just threw it away like it was nothing! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ what happened to checking down to kyle monangai in the flat? he was wide open!!! πŸ‘€ i feel for the guy, he's gotta learn from his mistakes and move on. maybe ben johnson was right about that throwing to rome odunze tho... πŸ€”

.. Caleb Williams gotta learn from his mistakes πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, it's easy to say "just go get Kyle" but it's not always that simple, you feel? Coach Johnson probably had a few choice words for him after that one 😏. The thing is, Monangai was open, so yeah, he shoulda checked down πŸ‘. It's all about reading the defense and making split-second decisions - it can be tough to execute in pressure situations. Williams is trying to spin this as a positive, but I think we can all agree that "good lesson learned" kinda sounds like "oops, I messed up πŸ™ˆ".

omg can you even imagine if he'd checked down to monangai lol? i mean, it's just basic football πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ! anyway, gotta give ben johnson props for calling that out tho πŸ™Œ, but seriously, it's all on Caleb now. like, come on man! throw to the open dude in the flat? it's not rocket science πŸ˜…! and btw, 10+ yards gain for monangai would've been a game-changer πŸ’₯. hope they learn from this and move forward, the team needs it 🀞
