Beloved pop-up Amelia Street Pizza Co. plans Hazel Park shop - Detroit Metro Times

Detroit's Pizza Scene to Get a Boost as Beloved Pop-Up Amelia Street Pizza Co. Opens in Hazel Park

A popular pizza pop-up, Amelia Street Pizza Co., is set to open its brick-and-mortar location in the metro Detroit area, bringing with it a new destination for pizza lovers. The company, founded by Matt Arb, has been making waves on social media, and its signature "Pecorino Half Moon" with a sourdough crust dusted in shaved cheese is sure to attract attention.

Acclaimed chef James Rigato has taken an interest in the project, serving as investor and mentor. Rigato's backing will likely play a significant role in helping Arb bring his vision to life. "It's the coolest thing to have someone like James taking an interest in this little thing that started in my kitchen," Arb said. The low-frills shop aims to provide the best pizza experience without sacrificing its neighborhood feel.

The new location, set at 951 E. Nine Mile Rd., is nestled in a 1,000-square-foot storefront attached to a party store and is conveniently located near Mabel Gray, Rigato's high-end restaurant. "I've wanted to open a pizza spot for a long time," Rigato said. "But this is not a Mabel Gray project. This is Matt's business and Matt's pizza."

Arb's journey began seven years ago as a refinancing banker at Rocket Mortgage. His pizzas took off on social media, catching the attention of Rigato and leading to a residency at Detroit's Dragonfly in 2025. The menu will feature cheese, pepperoni, and rotating specials, along with cheese bread, cookies, and soft drinks.

The opening is set for spring, marking an exciting addition to Detroit's vibrant food scene. Follow Amelia Street Pizza Co.'s Instagram account (@ameliastpizzaco) for updates on the shop's progress.

just saw this news about Amelia Street Pizza Co. πŸ•πŸŽ‰ i'm loving that it's a pop-up turned brick-and-mortar spot - it feels like what detroit needs right now. i mean, who doesn't love pizza? πŸ˜‹ and james rigato getting involved as an investor/mentor is a big plus - his expertise in the food scene can only help elevate matt arb's vision. 🀩 i'm curious to see how they'll balance neighborhood vibes with the low-frills shop atmosphere. will it be more of a chill hangout spot or will it get busy with detroit foodies? πŸ€”

idk about this... another 'pop-up' place just sprouting up everywhere πŸ€”. sounds like Matt Arb is trying to cash in on social media fame, but I'd love to see some real data on how his business will do long-term. also, 951 E. Nine Mile Rd? isn't that a party store address now? shouldn't it be the actual storefront address? πŸ“š

πŸ•πŸ‘ I'm so stoked to hear that Amelia Street Pizza Co. is opening its doors in Hazel Park! Matt Arb's passion for pizza is infectious, and I love how he's keeping it real with a neighborhood feel. James Rigato's involvement is a game-changer - his expertise will definitely take their pizzas to the next level 🀩. Can't wait to try that Pecorino Half Moon pizza... spring can't come soon enough! πŸ’¨

omg i cant even wait 4 this place 2 open!!! detroit needs more pizza love and im sure arb & rigato are gonna bring da heat with that pecorino half moon πŸ•πŸ‘ their collab is straight fire and im hyped 4 the neighborhood feel too, cant wait 2 try it out when its spring πŸŒΈπŸ’–

This is like, a perfect example of how capitalism can bring good things to society πŸ€‘. I mean, who doesn't love a great pizza? But seriously, this pop-up turned brick-and-mortar thing is just another case of entrepreneurship and innovation taking over. Matt Arb's passion project has gained traction because he listened to the community and created something that fits their needs.

The interesting part here is how James Rigato got involved, bringing his expertise and resources to help Arb scale up. It's like a classic bipartisan collaboration – the 'free market' guy (Arb) meets the 'social responsibility' advocate (Rigato). Together, they're creating jobs, stimulating local economy, and, most importantly, serving some amazing pies πŸ•.

One could argue that this is a perfect illustration of what's right with America – competition, innovation, and community-driven initiatives. And who knows, maybe the new shop will be the next big thing for Detroit's food scene? Only time (and votes) will tell 😊

idk about this new pizza place in hazel park tho... its just another pop-up turned brick-and-mortar, imo πŸ€”. i mean dont get me wrong, pecorino half moon sounds pretty fire πŸ”₯ but its not like detroit didnt have pizza before. theres already a bunch of amazing spots around the city that offer way more than just a 'cool' crust and some random toppings πŸ™„. plus, mabel gray is like 10 mins away... seems like we got a fancy-schmancy restaurant trying to piggyback off matthews pizza empire πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. maybe ill give it a try when its open tho, but im not exactly hyped about it yet πŸ•πŸ˜

πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I'm kinda surprised they're getting all this hype about a new pizza place in Hazel Park. Like, it's not like it's going to change the world or anything, right? But hey, if people are excited about it, who am I to be a buzzkill? πŸ•πŸ‘Œ Matt Arb seems like a cool dude for just doing his own thing and having some famous chef James Rigato come out of nowhere to support him. It's all good vibes! 😊
