Cantina la Martina brings La Tamalada back to Kensington in first Philly event since closure

Cantina La Martina Brings La Tamalada Back to Philly with Free Outdoor Festival

In a much-anticipated return, Philadelphia's beloved Mexican restaurant, Cantina la Martina, will host its first event since closing its doors in November. The popular eatery, owned by James Beard Award-nominated chef Dionicio Jimรฉnez, is bringing back its annual La Tamalada festival to The Lighthouse on February 1st.

This free outdoor celebration promises to be a fun-filled afternoon with local street vendors serving handmade tamales alongside an array of refreshing drinks and engaging family-friendly activities. Visitors can enjoy their favorite dishes on a pay-as-you-go basis, with each tamale priced at $6.

The festival is more than just a delicious food fest; it's also a celebration of La Candelaria, a traditional Mexican holiday marking the close of the holiday season. The event honors this cherished tradition by gathering the community for an afternoon of camaraderie and merriment. The festivities will kick off at 11 am and continue until 4 pm.

One highlight of the festival is a tamale-making competition, where participating vendors will showcase their culinary skills in a friendly showdown. Meanwhile, local DJ talent will keep the party going throughout the afternoon with a lively soundtrack.

Visitors of all ages can look forward to family-friendly activities like hayrides, barrel rides, artisan vendors, and a petting zoo featuring adorable horses, goats, and pigs. The Lighthouse's event promises to be an unforgettable experience that brings the community together in celebration of La Tamalada.

I'm super stoked Cantina La Martina is back in Philly... I mean, who isn't? ๐Ÿค— The idea of La Tamalada is so cool, but have you thought about how crowded it's gonna be on February 1st? Like, isn't that just gonna turn into a huge touristy mess? ๐Ÿ˜ฉ On the other hand, free admission is definitely a major plus! But wait... won't all those people just flood The Lighthouse and ruin the whole vibe? ๐Ÿค” I'm so conflicted about this event now...
