Local non-league club Street FC has appointed a father-son duo, Craig and Scott Laird, as co-managers. The pair took over the reins last month after the departure of former manager Ben Watson.
Craig Laird began his football career at Plymouth Argyle and has managed non-league clubs including Weston-super-Mare and Bridgwater Town. His son, Scott, had a successful playing career across various English Football League divisions, most notably with Preston, where he won promotion to the Championship in 2015.
The unusual move brings together two generations of football enthusiasts as they navigate the challenges of managing Street FC, a ninth-tier outfit in Western League Premier Division.
"I'm sure we'll have some disagreements," Scott said, noting that the Laird family has always shared similar views on football. "At the moment, we do see the game the same way and try to recruit players who share our vision."
For Craig, this role reversal allows him to learn from his son's experiences and apply them to his management style. The new setup has already shown promise with one win, one draw, and one loss in their last three league games.
"It's a dream come true," Craig said about becoming co-managers with his son. "Not many fathers get the opportunity to work with their sons in any type of work, let alone football."
The duo aims to bring a winning mentality to Street FC while maintaining a family-friendly environment.
