Cristian Romero: Tottenham skipper to blame for defeat at Man Utd - Chris Sutton

Tottenham Skipper Blamed for Defeat at Manchester United, Not the Manager - Chris Sutton

Cristian Romero's recent behavior has taken a toll on Tottenham Hotspur, and it's not just his on-field antics that are causing concern. The Argentine defender's red card against Manchester United at Old Trafford was the final nail in the coffin for Spurs' latest defeat.

Sutton, a former Premier League player, believes that Romero's actions were more to blame for the result than the manager, Ange Postecoglou. The Tottenham skipper's reckless challenge on Bruno Fernandes sparked controversy and led to his dismissal from the game.

"What I find most disturbing about Cristian Romero is not just the red card he got, but also the way he reacted after being sent off," Sutton said. "It shows a lack of respect for the game and for those around him."

While Postecoglou has been under pressure following Tottenham's poor run, Sutton thinks that his manager deserves more credit than Romero for the team's struggles. The former player pointed out that Spurs' woes go beyond just one individual's behavior.

"Tottenham's problems are bigger than just Cristian Romero or their manager," Sutton emphasized. "It's about a lack of discipline and a lack of leadership within the squad."

The recent defeat at Manchester United marked Tottenham's seventh loss in a row, and it remains to be seen how they will respond to this setback. Will Romero's antics be the turning point for Spurs, or will his behavior continue to have a negative impact on the team?

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s weird that people are saying Postecoglou should get more credit just because of one player’s bad behavior 🤔. Like, Romero gets sent off and suddenly everyone's all like "oh look, the manager can't handle his players" 😂. But what about all the other problems Spurs have? They're on a 7-game losing streak for crying out loud! That's not just down to one person or the manager 🤷‍♂️. It's more than that. I think we should be looking at the bigger picture here 👀.

Omg I dont think its that easy 🤔! Spuds have been struggling with so many things other than just Romero's red card... like their midfield is non existent and their attack is all over the place. Ange needs a break from the pressure but at the same time, he should be getting some credit for keeping them in games. And can we talk about how Spurs always seem to collapse when they're 1-0 down? 🤦‍♂️ It feels like they just give up and wait for the other team to score again... meanwhile Romero's just trying to do his job and protect his teammates 💔

OMG I'm so with Chris Sutton on this one! 🤯 Cristian Romero needs to get his head back in the game and start showing some respect on the pitch. It's not just about him, though - the whole squad needs to step up their game if they want to turn things around at Spurs. 😩 Ange Postecoglou is doing a tough job, but he can't do it alone... 😕 what's going on with that team? 🤔

omg i feel so bad for cristian romero 🤕 he's having such a rough time on and off the pitch! i think cris is being really unfair though - the whole team looked out of shape against man u, it can't just be 1 person's fault 😩 ange postecoglou has been trying to implement some new tactics, but it seems like they're not clicking yet 🤔 maybe cris needs to calm down a bit and focus on his game, rather than getting sent off all the time 🙏

omg i feel like spurs are having a super tough time with romero rn 🤯 he got sent off in that match against man u and it was so obvious that his behaviour was causing problems on the pitch 😬 but at the same time, Ange postecoglou's gotta take some flak too 'cause lets face it, spurs haven't been doing great lately 📉 anyway i think cristian romero should work on being more disciplined & respectful on the field, not just for his team but for the game as a whole ⚽

omg i feel like cristian romero is gettin so much heat rn but honestly im not sure if he's entirely at fault 🤔... like, yeah he got sent off and reacted poorly, but cant we be more understanding of players having bad days? 🤗 postecoglou deserves some credit for tryin to manage a team thats goin through a tough patch 🙏 and it seems like spurs problems run deeper than just romero's antics... maybe they need to work on that discipline & leadership thing 📈

man, cristian romero needs to get his head back together 🤯 he's such an important player but now he's just causing more problems than solving them. what's going through that brain of his when he just goes out there and starts throwing elbows like that 🥊 i feel bad for the team, they need him to step up their game not tear themselves apart

I don't think Cristian Romero is off the hook just yet 😒. I mean, yeah, he got sent off and it was a reckless challenge, but that's not all that went down at Old Trafford. Postecoglou's tactics were pretty suspect too 🤔. I'm not saying Romero is the main culprit, but he's definitely not taking some of the heat off his gaffer. And let's be real, Spurs have been struggling for ages now, it's time for someone to take responsibility and point fingers at the top, you know? 💬

i think cristian romero needs to work on his discipline, like really badly 🤦‍♂️... and postecoglou deserves more credit for trying to turn things around, he's doing his best with limited resources 💯... it's not all about one player or the manager, there are some serious issues within the team that need to be addressed, like how they're handling pressure and making smart decisions on the pitch 🤔... and yeah, romero's reaction after getting sent off was pretty cringeworthy 😳

im think cristian romero needs to work on himself, not just the manager... that red card was huge and it's not just about the tackle itself, but how he reacted after getting sent off 🤦‍♂️. tottenham's problems run deeper than just one player or one manager... they need to sort out their discipline issues and get some leaders in the squad 💪. maybe romero will learn from his mistakes and turn things around, but until then, spurs are gonna struggle 💔

I think what really gets me is how one player can single-handedly affect the entire team. I mean, Romero's red card was definitely a low point, but it's not like he's carrying the rest of the squad on his back. And Ange Postecoglou is doing everything he can to get the best out of them, even if things aren't going their way. It's all about balance and finding that sweet spot between individual player behavior and team strategy 🤔💡

omg i cant believe cristian romero got that red card lol but seriously tho i think christian is just having an off season he used to be so clutch on the pitch 🤦‍♂️ anyway im with cristian sutton on this one i think ange postecoglou deserves more credit for trying to turn things around 🙏 tottenham's struggles go beyond romero or his manager it's like they just need a big win to get back on track 🏆 fingers crossed they bounce back from that manchester united loss 🤞

omg u guys i just read dis article about cristian romero getting slammed by chris sutton and idk if i agree or not lol but seriously sutton makes some good points esp the part where he says spurs probs are bigger than just 1 person's behavior 🤔🏀 i mean romero got a red card and everything but at da same time postecoglou is gettin pressured cuz of it & i feel like he's being taken outta da equation 😐 anywayz what do u think? r u a spurs fan? 👀

I think Sutton has a valid point about focusing on individual culpability vs manager accountability 🤔. While Romero's actions were certainly reckless and showed poor judgment, it's not entirely fair to place all the blame solely on him 🚫. The bigger issue here is the systemic problems within Tottenham's squad, particularly regarding discipline and leadership 💪. If Spurs can't even get their own players to keep a level head in big games, it raises questions about Postecoglou's overall strategy and team culture 📊.

I gotta say 🤔, I don't think we're giving Postecoglou enough credit for trying to turn Tottenham around, ya know? I mean, Romero's red card was definitely a low point, but it's not like he's the only one who's had a bad season so far. And let's be real, Spurs have been struggling with discipline and leadership issues for ages... 🤷‍♂️ It's hard to pinpoint just one guy's behavior as the reason they're losing games left and right. I'm not saying Romero's blameless or anything, but we need to give Postecoglou more props for trying to fix this mess. The guy's got a tough job, and it's not easy to turn around a team that's been struggling like Spurs have. 🤞

Man, I'm getting old 🙄. Remember when players used to show some respect for the game? Like, no red cards and less drama, you know? Nowadays it's all about the individual and their ego 💁‍♂️. Cristian Romero's antics have got everyone talking, but let's not forget that Spurs' real problem is the lack of discipline and leadership within the squad 👊. It's like they're trying to solve everything with one player's tantrums 🤯. And Ange Postecoglou gets all the blame? Come on, he's done a decent job so far, don't be too harsh 😐. I just hope Tottenham can get their act together before it's too late ⏰. Maybe a good old-fashioned Premier League clean sheet would do them some good 💦... just sayin' 🤷‍♂️.

I think Sutton is totally right that Romero's actions were a major part of the problem 🤔 but at the same time, I'm not convinced that it was entirely his fault... I mean, shouldn't the whole team be taking responsibility for their own behavior and holding each other accountable? 💯 But on the other hand, when you think about it, Romero's red card did seem like a pretty reckless move 😳 and if he can't keep his cool under pressure, how are we supposed to trust him to be a leader on the pitch? 🤷‍♂️ And while I agree that Spurs' problems go beyond just one individual or their manager, it feels like Romero's behavior has been a major contributor to their recent struggles... maybe it's time for him to take a step back and re-evaluate his approach? 🤔

I feel like I've seen this play out before 🙄... Remember when Roy Keane used to get under people's skin and get sent off in big games? 😂 Anyway, back to Romero, I think Sutton makes a good point that his behavior isn't just about him, it's about the whole squad not being on the same page. And yeah, Postecoglou has taken a lot of heat for some of Tottenham's recent results, but you can't blame the manager entirely when one player is having a meltdown like Romero did 😡... I mean, what was he even thinking?! 🤯

I feel bad for Romero 🤕... he got sent off and that's always gonna cost you a game. But at the same time, I think Sutton has a point about the bigger picture 📊. If your star player is getting red cards left and right, it says a lot about the team's discipline and leadership. And yeah, Ange Postecoglou does deserve some credit for trying to get the best out of his squad 💯. Still, you gotta wonder if Spurs will ever find that balance between being tough and being smart 🤔. Can't have one player costing you too many games... 😬
