Disney+ is bringing High Dynamic Range 10 Plus (HDR10+) content to its platform for the first time, albeit with an initial limitation that will restrict access. Approximately 1,000 shows from Hulu's library are set to be made available in this format, while additional programming under Disney's umbrella has not yet been confirmed, although it is expected at a later date.
The news was announced by Samsung, which plays a significant role in promoting HDR10+ technology for high-definition video. Initially, the HDR10+ content will be made available on select Samsung Crystal UHD TVs and models from 2018 onwards, as well as certain Samsung Smart Monitors.
HDR10+, an upgrade to the existing HDR10 standard, offers improved image quality by expanding contrast, brightness, and color capabilities on a scene-by-scene basis. This technology has been available on various platforms for some time, including Netflix, which recently added support in March.
The expansion of Disney+ with HDR10+ content marks a significant development in its push to enhance viewing experiences.
