EEOC Quietly Hired Lawyer Who Crusaded for Cases of Discrimination Against Men — Including His Own

A man who accused his college of unfairly suspending him after a rape allegation has become the new assistant general counsel for the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Benjamin North, who maintained his innocence during the lawsuit, will now oversee cases involving sex discrimination in the workplace.

North's hire comes just over eight years after he settled his case with the university. In 2019, a judge ruled that the college had violated its policies and Title IX, which prohibits gender discrimination at federally funded institutions. North claimed that the university had given his accuser "preferential treatment" and discriminated against him based on his sex.

Despite his past stance as an advocate for men's rights in sexual misconduct cases, North will be responsible for guiding litigation at the EEOC. The agency is facing criticism over its handling of cases involving transgender workers and disparate impact racial discrimination claims under the leadership of Chair Andrea Lucas.

Lucas has asserted new priorities at the agency, including "defending the biological and binary reality of sex and related rights." She has also instructed officials to focus on cases that align with her own priorities. This shift has raised concerns among some EEOC employees, who have expressed skepticism about North's ability to uphold the law and apply it faithfully.

North's background as an advocate for men's rights in sexual misconduct cases has been met with criticism from some who see his hiring as a concerning signal that the agency is not taking seriously claims of sex discrimination. "It sends a concerning signal to have hired somebody with his background," said an EEOC employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "We need people in that office who understand that their job is to uphold the law and apply the law faithfully."

North's role at the EEOC has sparked debate about the agency's priorities and commitment to enforcing sex discrimination laws. As he takes up his new position, critics will be watching closely to see how he handles cases involving sex discrimination in the workplace.

🤔 The hire of Benjamin North as assistant general counsel at the EEOC is quite a mixed bag for me 📝 I mean, on one hand, it's good that they're moving forward with someone who's got experience with their own situation, but on the other hand, his background in men's rights and how he handled his previous case is kinda sketchy to me. Like, didn't he accuse the college of giving preferential treatment to the accuser? 🤷‍♂️ It's not exactly a good look for someone who's gonna be enforcing laws against sex discrimination.

And then there's this thing about Chair Lucas' priorities and how she wants to focus on defending biological and binary reality, which is like... really unclear to me 🙄 I mean, isn't that just perpetuating the same kinds of problematic attitudes we're trying to combat in the first place? But at the same time, I get why some people would be concerned about someone with North's background handling cases, especially when it comes to sex discrimination.

I guess what I'm saying is that this whole thing has me a bit unsure 🤯 What are their priorities here? Are they gonna really be working towards creating a more inclusive and equitable work environment, or are they just trying to push back against what they see as a liberal agenda? Either way, I think it's worth keeping an eye on 👀

I don't get it... 🤔 A guy who was accused of rape becomes an assistant general counsel for the EEOC? It's like someone with a history of shady dealings getting a chance to oversee cases against people who've been wronged. It just doesn't sit right with me. He settled his case with the university, which means he didn't have to take it all the way to court... what does that say about his commitment to justice? 🤷‍♂️

I just saw this news and I gotta say, it's pretty wild that someone who went through a major controversy like this gets hired to oversee cases of sex discrimination at the EEOC 🤯. I get where they're trying to balance perspectives and all but it feels like they're walking on eggshells here. North's past comments have raised some eyebrows, especially when it comes to his stance on men's rights in sexual misconduct cases. I'm not sure if he's gonna be able to bring a lot of objectivity to the table considering that 🤔.

"Integrity is never done, only delayed." 🕰️

The hiring of Benjamin North at the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has sparked debate and concerns about the agency's priorities and commitment to enforcing sex discrimination laws. Critics argue that his background as an advocate for men's rights in sexual misconduct cases raises questions about his ability to uphold the law and apply it faithfully.

As someone who values fairness and equality, I believe it's essential for the EEOC to remain impartial and take all claims of sex discrimination seriously. It's crucial to have a team that understands the importance of upholding the law, even if they don't agree with every policy or approach.

It's also important to acknowledge that having a diverse range of perspectives within an agency can be beneficial, as long as it doesn't compromise the integrity of the work being done. The EEOC needs to ensure that its policies and actions are guided by the principles of fairness, equality, and justice for all.

"Actions speak louder than words." 🗣️

idk what's goin on here 🤯. so this guy benjamin north gets hired at eeco despite bein an advocate for mens rights in sexual misconduct cases? that's like puttin a fox in charge of the henhouse 🐓🕵️‍♂️. i mean, dont get me wrong, he settled his case with the university and all, but comin from where he is now to oversee sex discrimination cases? it's like a slippery slope 😳. i'm worried about the perception that eeco's not takin this stuff serious enough 🤷‍♂️. chair andrea lucas needs to be careful here...

🤔 this is wild that North got hired as AGC at the EEOC after he settled his case with the college and still thinks it was unfair 😂 like, don't you think you kinda get a free pass for being wrong? 🙄 but seriously, people are worried about him handling cases involving sex discrimination in the workplace. I'm low-key concerned too 🤷‍♀️. EEOC is already getting roasted for its priorities under Chair Lucas, and now North's on board... it's like, can't we just focus on protecting workers' rights without all the drama? 💁‍♀️ maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm keeping an eye on this 📊

🚨 just saw this guy Benjamin North is a total joke 🤣 he gets hired at EEOC to oversee sex discrimination cases and has a background as a men's rights advocate 🙄 what a sickening irony 😷 like, how does that even work out? 🤔 I mean, the agency is already getting roasted for its handling of trans issues and now they're bringing in some dude who's basically a anti-feminist hack 💸 I'm low-key worried about this development 🤕

I'm so confused... like, I think it's awesome that Benjamin North is now working at the EEOC, right? 🤔 But then again, shouldn't someone with his background, you know, be super cautious about defending people who've been accused of sex stuff? 🤷‍♂️ It just doesn't feel right to me... but at the same time, I get that he settled his case a long time ago and maybe he's genuinely changed his tune. Maybe? 🤔 Either way, I'm kinda worried about how this is gonna play out, especially with Chair Lucas's whole "biological reality" thing going on. I mean, what does that even have to do with the job? 🤷‍♂️ Ugh, my brain hurts trying to figure it all out... 😩

I mean, yay for a guy who's basically been accused of being part of the problem being given a high-profile job at the agency that's supposed to deal with those problems 🤷‍♂️. It's like someone took a look at the EEOC and said "you know what we need? More people who think men can't be rapists" 🙄. I'm sure it has nothing to do with his personal history or anything... 💁‍♂️. Can't wait to see how this plays out, especially when he's dealing with cases that actually involve survivors of rape and harassment 👀. Maybe he'll surprise us all and become a real advocate for justice and equality 🤦‍♂️ (just kidding, I won't hold my breath).

I dont know man... Benjamin Norths hiring as AGC at EEOC is a weird move 🤔. He was accused of rape and lost his case 8 years ago, now hes overseeing cases involving sex discrimination? That raises some serious red flags for me 🚨. I get that he settled his case with the university but thats not exactly the same as being an advocate for victims of sexual misconduct. Im worried about how hell handle these sensitive cases and whether his own experiences will cloud his judgment. The EEOC is already under fire for their handling of transgender worker cases, now this? 🤷‍♂️ It seems like theyre more concerned with defending biologically binary rights than actual sex discrimination 🙄. Time will tell if North can put the past behind him and do whats right, but I got my doubts 😐
