European football: Jacquet sustains 'serious' injury days after agreeing Liverpool deal

Liverpool's summer signing Jérémy Jacquet has suffered a 'serious' shoulder injury just days after agreeing a £55m deal with the club. The 20-year-old France Under-21 centre-back fell awkwardly during Rennes' 3-1 defeat to Lens in Ligue 1, leaving him writhing in agony on the pitch.

Rennes head coach Habib Beye described the injury as "serious" but did not provide further details. Jacquet's injury has cast a doubt over his chances of making an impact for Liverpool straight away. The club had high hopes that the young defender would be able to strengthen their backline after the departure of Joe Gomez.

Jacquet was one of the most highly rated defenders in Europe, and his arrival at Anfield was seen as a major coup for the Reds. He was described by Arne Slot as "a very big talent" with the potential to do even more than he already has.

The injury news is a significant blow to Liverpool's summer recruitment plans, coming just days after they signed Jacquet on a five-year deal worth £55m plus an additional £5m in add-ons. The Reds had hoped that the young Frenchman would be able to make an immediate impact at Anfield, but it now seems unlikely.

In contrast, Rennes are already feeling the effects of their high-profile signing. The French side's poor start to the season has been compounded by the injury to Jacquet and another player, Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal. Despite this, Habib Beye remained upbeat about his team's prospects in Ligue 1, saying that they were looking forward to their next match with renewed enthusiasm.

Ugh, what a disaster 😩. I mean, £55m for one player and now he's out for who knows how long? It's like Liverpool just flushed all their hard-earned cash down the toilet 🚽. And of course, it had to happen on the first day of the season, when they really needed him to make a splash ⛪️. I swear, this is going to be one of those seasons where everything goes wrong for them... and we'll all get to enjoy watching their struggles in the Premier League 📺.

aww man what a shame for jérémy jacquet he was gonna be such a great asset for liverpool now they gotta scramble to find another defender 🤕 maybe they should've done some research before signing him lol rennes got hit hard too but habib beye's right they just gotta bounce back 💪 that £55m deal better be worth it if jérémy's gonna miss the whole season ⏰

Ugh, this is just what Liverpool needed 🤦‍♂️ - another major injury blow 💔! I mean, £55m is a lot of cash for someone who's already showing signs of injury issues 😬. Jacquet was hyped up as the next big thing in defenders, but now it seems like he might need some time to recover 💉. Rennes are getting the hang of this "losing games" thing though 🙄...anyway, I'm still rooting for Liverpool's new squad to make a comeback! #LFC #InjuryBlow #SummerSigningDisaster 🤕

Ugh I'm literally so bummed for Jérémy Jacquet 🤕😩 he was gonna be such a game changer for Liverpool and now it looks like he's out for a while 🤯 I mean I know injuries happen but £55m is a lot of money to lose on one player 💸 plus the fact that Rennes are struggling too just makes it even worse 😒 I hope he gets back to full strength soon so he can make his debut at Anfield, I've been dying to see him in action 🎟️👀

🤔 This is a huge bummer for Liverpool fans. £55m for a defender who might not even play for them right away? It seems like a lot of money for a risk like this. I'm not saying it's not a big talent, but the Reds should've done more due diligence on his injury history before splashing out that kind of cash. 💸 And what about all those add-ons in the contract? Is he even worth the extra £5m if he's going to be out for who knows how long? 🤷‍♂️

Ugh, I'm so bummed for Jérémy Jacquet 🤕! I was hyped about him joining Liverpool and thought he was gonna be the real deal 💪. £55m is a lot of cash for a player, especially when they're still 20 years old... it's like, what if he doesn't live up to the hype? 😳 The Reds are already feeling the pinch with this injury, and now they've gotta regroup and adjust their plans again 🔄. I just hope Jacquet gets the help he needs to recover ASAP 💕. It's too bad for Rennes too, 'cause they were counting on him to make a difference 🤞.

😱💔 oh man, this is not what Liverpool fans wanted to hear just before the new season... £55m for a player and now he's out for an extended period? That's just devastating for their backline... I feel bad for Jérémy Jacquet too, he was so hyped up after signing that deal 🤦‍♂️. The Reds might need to scramble for other defenders ASAP...

Ugh 🤦‍♂️, this is just great. £55m for a player who might not even make it past the first season without a major injury? It feels like Liverpool is trying to set a new record for most money spent on a player who might not deliver. I mean, what's next? Paying a top transfer fee for a player who's only going to be good for 5 minutes before getting carted off the pitch? 😂

And don't even get me started on the "highly rated" label. Who is Arne Slot kidding? A highly rated defender doesn't mean he'll actually deliver, especially if he can't even make it through a game without hurting himself. 💔 I'm starting to think that Liverpool's recruitment strategy needs a serious re-think. 🤔

OH NOOOO 😱 I cant believe this is happening!! Jérémy Jacquet was supposed to be the answer to Liverpool's defense problems and now its like all the hope is being pulled away from them! £55m plus add-ons, thats a lot of money for one player! 🤑 But seriously, I feel bad for him, he must be going through hell right now. Rennes is going to have to deal with this too, they were already struggling and now they lose another key player. Its like the universe is conspiring against them! 🤯 The Reds are going to have to scramble to find a new solution, I hope they can pull it together soon.

omg liverpool is gonna get smashed this season without jacquet lol like what kind of transfer deal is £55m plus add ons?! 😂 he was supposed to be the savior of their defense and now they're stuck playing with whoever they got left? 🤣 and rennes getting crushed because they spent big on him too?!😂 beye's gotta be worried about his job lol

🤕😱 I'm so bummed for Jérémy Jacquet! 😔 This injury is like a big X marked through his Anfield debut 🚫💥. £55m is a lot of money, but it's not worth the risk of getting hurt 💸😬. Can you imagine if Liverpool had started the season with him in the starting lineup? 🔁👀 Rennes is already struggling, and now they've got another player out 🤕🏥.

I'm drawing a diagram to try and make sense of it... 📝
```
I hope Jacquet recovers soon! 💪🏼👍
😞 That's a total bummer for Liverpool fans! £55m is a massive investment, and for it not to pay off right away is tough to swallow. I mean, you can't help but wonder if the risk was worth it. 20 years old is still young, so maybe this will be an opportunity for him to learn from his injury and come back stronger. 🤞 The fact that Rennes are feeling the pressure with two key players out injured might actually work in Liverpool's favor, though... maybe they'll get a better deal on a replacement? 💰
😒 I mean, what a bummer for Liverpool fans... I was really stoked to see Jacquet join the Reds, but now it's just a mess 🤕. £55m is a ton of cash, and for him to get hurt on his first day with the team? 🙄 And the worst part is, they probably won't even be able to give him enough time to recover before the season is over 🕰️. It's like, what was the point of signing him if he's just gonna sit out? 🤔 I know Rennes isn't in a great spot right now either, but still... it's a shame because Jacquet seemed like he had so much potential ⚽️. And can we talk about how lazy the transfer news is getting? No one's got time to do their research or even just watch a match before making a big signing move 💸😒
🤕 Oh man, I'm so bummed for Jérémy Jacquet and Liverpool fans at large. £55m is a huge sum of money, and now it seems like he's gonna be out for a while. I mean, I get it, injuries happen, but it feels like they dodged a bullet last summer when they signed him. Rennes are already struggling in Ligue 1, so this doesn't help 'em out much either. Guess you gotta wait and see how long he's gonna be out for before we can even think about him making an impact at Anfield 🤔
🤕😬 oh noooo poor Jérémy Jacquet! £55m is a lot of money for an injury... hope he recovers fast & doesn't mess up his future career 🤞💪 rennes needs him like lfc needs him, hope they can get back on track soon 😊⚽
I don't usually comment but... it's like, what a bummer for Liverpool fans! They just signed this super talented young defender and now he's out for who knows how long 😩. I mean, £55m is a crazy amount of money to be losing on an injury, especially one that sounds 'serious'. It's like, they were counting on him to strengthen their backline after Joe Gomez left, but now it's all up in the air 🤔. You'd think they'd have better luck with injuries this time around... 😂
🤕 oh no! liverpool's new signing is already facing a major setback 🤦‍♂️. £55m is a lot of money to spend on someone who might not even get to play for 6 months 😬. it's like, yeah congrats jérémy jacquet on the deal, but now you're gonna be out for ages and liverpool is gonna have to adjust their plans 📝. at least rennes are taking it in stride though ⚽️. they gotta stick together as a team and hope that jacquet's injury isn't too serious 💪. fingers crossed he makes a speedy recovery 🤞!
😱 oh man what a huge blow for Liverpool! They really needed that young French talent to beef up their defense after Joe Gomez left... now it's gonna be tough to make an impact straight away 🤕 I hope Jérémy Jacquet gets the best medical attention possible, fingers crossed he'll be back on the pitch soon 💪
