Ex-priest indicted for allegedly raping disabled child while ministering in New Orleans

Mark Francis Ford, a 64-year-old former priest from Louisiana, has been indicted on child rape charges related to allegations of abusing a disabled boy between 2006 and 2008. The alleged abuse occurred when Ford, who was working as a priest in New Orleans, met the victim through a church program for youth with disabilities.

Ford co-founded "God's Special Children," a program that provided support and mentorship to children with disabilities. However, authorities claim that he exploited this position of trust to groom the boy, who was on the autism spectrum and had a degenerative spinal condition, and eventually sexually assaulted him multiple times.

Prosecutors allege that Ford ignored the boy's pleas for help and told him that his family would not believe him if he reported the abuse. The victim came forward to police in November 2024 and underwent two forensic interviews before a warrant was obtained to arrest Ford in September.

Ford was arrested at his home in Portage, Indiana, and transferred to New Orleans' jail without bail pending trial. If convicted, he faces mandatory life imprisonment.

The case against Ford is the latest development in a long-standing clergy molestation scandal within the New Orleans Catholic church. Several other men have been arrested by authorities for allegedly abusing children, including retired priest Lawrence Hecker, who received a mandatory life sentence after pleading guilty to decades-old rape and kidnapping charges.

Ford's past as a Catholic priest is shrouded in controversy, with some reports suggesting that he struggled with financial management issues while working at churches. However, his removal from the priesthood by the Vatican remains unclear.

The case has sparked widespread outrage, with prosecutors describing Ford's actions as "violent and reprehensible" and an "unacceptable breach of trust."

just saw this crazy story about mark francis ford - 64yo former priest from louisiana indicted for child rape 🤯 i mean, it's like he was right in front of god and still managed to do this to a kid who couldn't even defend himself. the fact that he founded this program to help kids with disabilities just makes it even more sickening. how could someone exploit their position of trust like that? anyway, hope justice is served 💪

🤕 I'm not surprised to hear about this guy's dark past. You can't judge someone by their reputation alone, but it's hard not to when you see a record like his. A 64-year-old priest gets away with exploiting his position of power for years and now he's facing serious time? It's unbelievable. 🙄 The fact that he was able to convince the boy that no one would believe him if he spoke out just shows how twisted he is. And all those kids who were involved in "God's Special Children" are probably still traumatized from being groomed by this monster. 😩 This case just goes to show that even when you think someone is a good person, they can still be capable of unimaginable evil. I'm not buying the whole "he was struggling with financial issues" excuse either... sounds like he was just too lazy to figure it out on his own. 🤑

🤕 this is just heartbreaking... a man who was supposed to be guiding and protecting those kids ended up hurting them so badly... it's the worst thing when someone in power takes advantage of that trust. I'm so sad for the victim and his family, they deserve justice and closure. And what really gets me is how he was able to manipulate the system using the program he founded 🤦‍♂️. It's like he used his position to groom him and then just ignored him when he needed help most... ugh, it makes me want to scream.

🤕 This is just heartbreaking, a priest who was supposed to be helping vulnerable kids ended up hurting them so badly. I mean, I'm glad the victim finally found the courage to speak out, it's never too late for justice. 64 is not old to do something so heinous and I'm sure his victims will never forgive him or forget what he did. 🤯 The system failed them big time by allowing this guy to keep working with kids despite all these red flags. 💔

🤕 this is absolutely horrific what a total monster he must be to prey on such vulnerable kids 🚫 I cant even imagine the trauma that child went through having to deal with this for so long and then finally finding the courage to come forward 💪 at least now justice will hopefully be served but still it makes me want to scream how could someone in a position of trust do this to innocent kids? 🤯

This is a totally sickening situation 🤢, you know? I mean, some guy who was supposed to be helping these kids through a program called God's Special Children ends up taking advantage of them and using his position of power to exploit and abuse them. It's just unbelievable that someone in such a vulnerable position could get away with it for so long.

I think what really gets me is the fact that this guy was supposed to be a role model, someone who was supposed to be providing support and guidance to these kids, but instead he was grooming them for abuse. And then when they finally came forward to report him, he basically told them not to trust their families or anyone else to believe them - it's just disgusting.

And the fact that this is part of a bigger problem with clergy molestation within the Catholic church is just heartbreaking. I mean, we've heard about all these other cases where priests and other church officials have been abusing kids and covering it up, and it's just so frustrating because you feel like the system failed these kids.

Anyway, I think it's good that Ford is finally facing justice, but my heart goes out to the victim who has to deal with this trauma for the rest of their life. 🤕

I don't understand how someone in a position to help kids can hurt them so bad? 🤕 I mean, he was like a father figure or something. And it's not like he got caught right away either, like 18 years went by before the kid said anything. That's just weird. Did the church know about any of this going on? They seem kinda shady to me. Anyway, my cousin's friend is from New Orleans and they always say how nice people are there...

.. this is just disgusting 🤢. I cant even believe how some ppl can abuse their power like that. A disabled kid who's already strugglin' just needs help and support, not exploited by some so-called "minister". And now he's facin' life in prison, which is good, but im more concerned about the kids who have been traumatized by this guy. The church has gotta take responsibility for their own ppl too... how could they let this guy be around kids like that? 🤔

Ugh, this is just so sad 🤕. I mean, can you even imagine what that poor kid went through? Being groomed by someone he trusted in a program meant to help him? It's horrific. And the fact that Ford was able to take advantage of his position and exploit the boy's vulnerability is just appalling.

I'm not sure what's more shocking, the fact that this happened or that it took so long for anyone to come forward. I mean, two years after the alleged abuse stopped, the victim finally found the courage to report it? That's devastating.

It's amazing how a program meant to support and empower kids with disabilities was actually used as a means of exploitation and control. It just goes to show that even in good intentions, there can be bad consequences if people are not held accountable.

Anyway, I hope justice is served and Ford gets the punishment he deserves 🤞.

😱 this is absolutely despicable, a priest who was meant to serve & protect vulnerable children instead chose to exploit them. it's mind-boggling how someone could use their position of power to groom & abuse a child with disabilities 🤕 his actions are a heinous betrayal of the trust placed in him and will likely have devastating consequences for the victim & his family. the fact that he founded an organization aimed at supporting children with disabilities makes it even more egregious 💔

🤯 this is just heartbreaking it's like he was in a position to help these kids but instead used it for his own sick desires. the fact that he told the boy not to report it because his family wouldn't believe him is just devastating. i feel so sorry for the victim and their family, they've been through so much already. and to think he's been hiding in plain sight as a respected member of the community... 🤕

Ugh, this is just so sickening 😱🤢. Can you even imagine a 64-year-old dude taking advantage of some poor kid like that? It's like he was preying on someone who couldn't even defend themselves because they were disabled 🙅‍♂️. And the worst part is, he used this 'God's Special Children' program to gain trust with the kid and then turned it all around for his own sick desires 😈.

I mean, I know some of these clergy scandals are super disturbing, but this one hits especially close to home because of how he manipulated someone who was already vulnerable. And now that Ford is behind bars, at least some justice has been served... but I hope the victim gets all the support and help they need 🤞.

🤕 this is just another sickening story of a supposed 'man of god' who turned out to be a monster. i mean, who gets away with something like that for so long? 🤷‍♂️ it's not just the fact that he abused that kid, but also how he manipulated him into silence. can u imagine if that was ur cousin or brother?

i'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole 'god's special children' thing... sounds like a total red flag right from the start 🚨 i don't know what kind of twisted mind would think it's okay to prey on vulnerable kids like that.

anyway, good job to the victim who finally spoke out and got justice. 💪 but at the same time, can we talk about how our system fails these people? 🤔 how do we prevent this kind of abuse in the first place?

omg u guys can't believe this ??! mark ford is literally a total monster !! he was preying on these vulnerable kids through his so called "godly" program god's special children lol what a joke ! how could someone in his position do this to these kids?? and then they tell them their family won't believe them ? that's just sickening ! i'm so glad the victim finally came forward and now mark ford is gonna rot in prison he doesn't deserve even 5 seconds of air after what he did lol

can't believe this is happening again 🤕 a guy who was supposed to be helping kids with disabilities ends up exploiting them for his own twisted desires... it's just mind-blowing how some people can use their position of power to hurt others so badly. and the fact that he was running a program meant to support these kids, but instead used it to groom him for abuse is just sickening 😷
