Exclusive: Alex Pretti's former boss responds to push to "demonize" nurse

Dr. Aasma Shaukat, the former boss of Alex Pretti, spoke out against attempts to demonize the ICU nurse who was fatally shot by a federal immigration agent in Minneapolis. According to Dr. Shaukat, she hired Pretti as a research assistant at the Minneapolis VA hospital in 2014 and described him as "very earnest" and "very enthusiastic about contributing to patient care." She stated that Pretti was a valuable team member who learned well and worked hard.

Dr. Shaukat emphasized that the Alex she knew was not someone with radical or crazy thoughts, but rather someone who was dedicated to healing and taking care of people. She expressed her hope that the community in Minneapolis will improve after the administration sent Trump's border czar, Tom Homan, into the city to oversee operations.

The former boss also shared stories about Pretti's character, including how he would bring "funny stories" from his side gig as a pizza delivery driver and how he was always open about things he cared about. Dr. Shaukat said that she could see him coming to the aid of someone in need and described his death as a "complete tragedy."

In response to criticism from President Donald Trump, who accused Pretti of being an agitator and insurrectionist, Dr. Shaukat said that these claims do not fit the Alex they knew. She emphasized that Pretti's legacy should be remembered for promoting the rights to protest, helping the community, and having empathy towards fellow citizens.

As the investigation into Pretti's death continues, Dr. Shaukat expressed her support for Democrats in Congress who have sought to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem over the incident. She believes that finding a middle ground where everyone can find peace and work together is essential.

The case has sparked growing backlash against the administration's operations in Minnesota, with many critics saying the shooting was unjustified. The agents involved in the shooting have been placed on leave, and the Department of Justice has opened a civil rights investigation into Pretti's death.

.. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole thing 🀯. On one hand, it's great that Dr. Shaukat is speaking out against the demonization of Alex Pretti - she sounds like an amazing person who truly knew him and I trust her judgment πŸ’•. It's also super concerning that Trump would accuse someone of being an agitator just because they were protesting... like, what even is that? πŸ™„

On the other hand, I'm still trying to understand why Dr. Shaukat thinks that Tom Homan's visit to Minneapolis was a good idea πŸ˜•. Like, didn't he know that would just fuel more tension and conflict? And it's crazy that she wants to see a middle ground between everyone... isn't that just code for "let's all just get along" without actually addressing the systemic issues at play? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I guess what I'm saying is, I agree with Dr. Shaukat on some things, but not others πŸ’―. We need to be careful about how we talk about and portray people who are protesting or advocating for change... it's easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment πŸš’. But at the same time, we also need to listen to each other and try to find common ground - that's the only way we're gonna make progress 🌈.

omg u guys this is so wild 🀯 i'm literally shaking right now thinking about Alex Pretti's story and how Dr Aasma Shaukat is speaking out against all the hate she knew him to be πŸ™ he was just a regular dude trying to make a difference in his community and then BAM someone from the admin comes in and kills him πŸ’” it's just not fair at all. i think we need more people like Dr Shaukat who are willing to speak out against injustice and stand up for what's right 🌟 and yeah I'm low-key glad that some ppl in congress r calling out the admin for this, hopefully we can get some answers soon πŸ”

I'm telling you, something fishy is going on here 🐟... First, this Alex Pretti chick, who's supposed to be some kind of hero, gets shot by a federal agent in Minneapolis, and now the administration is sending Tom Homan to oversee operations? That don't add up πŸ’”. I mean, what's really going on behind closed doors? It seems like they're trying to stir up some drama and create more tension between the community and the government. And President Trump, always quick to jump on a bandwagon, calling Pretti an "agitator" and "insurrectionist"... come on, that's just propaganda πŸ“°. I think Dr. Shaukat is right to stand by her former employee and say that his legacy should be about promoting rights to protest and helping the community, not some fabricated narrative of radicalism πŸ”₯. The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that there's a hidden agenda at play here πŸ‘€...

Ugh πŸ€• this whole thing is just so sad... I mean, I get that Alex Pretti was a total stand-up guy, but at the same time, you gotta wonder what was goin' on in his head before he got shot πŸ˜•. And now the whole Trump thing? Come on, dude πŸ™„... Dr. Shaukat's just tryin' to tell the truth about the Alex she knew, and it's not fair that the admin's tryin' to spin this as some kinda conspiracy theory πŸ”. But at the same time, I'm all for people bein' able to express themselves and stand up for what they believe in πŸ’ͺ... it's just a shame it had to end like this πŸ˜”. Can't we just find a way to work together and get along πŸ€—?

Just heard about Alex Pretti and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it 🀯. What really got me is that his former boss Dr Aasma Shaukat is speaking out against the demonization of him... she had no idea he was like this πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. It's crazy how people can be so different from what others expect. I hope the community in Minneapolis can come together and find some peace after all this πŸ’•. The whole thing just feels so unjustified, you know? 🚫

πŸ€” so I think its messed up that ppl r makin assumptions about Alex Pretti without even gettin to know him 🚫. Dr Aasma Shaukat seems like a nice person who knows him well, and she didnt see any radical side πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ. Its not fair 2 Trump & his ppl 2 try 2 paint a picture of someone they dont know, especially when its after hes been murdered πŸ’”. Can we pls just focus on findin out wht really happened & makin sure justice is served? πŸ•ŠοΈ
