Family of Queens man shot by cops: We wanted EMS, not NYPD

A Family's Alarming Claim: NYPD Officers Shot Son Without Calling EMS First, Advocacy Group Alleges

In a shocking turn of events, the family of 22-year-old Jabez Chakraborty, who was shot at least four times by NYPD officers in Queens on Monday, claims that they specifically requested an EMS response when calling 911. According to Desis Rising Up and Moving, a South Asian immigrant advocacy group, Simran Thind, a close family member, stated that the family asked for medical transport, not police.

However, the NYPD disputes this account, saying that officers were invited into the home by the family and did not draw their guns until Chakraborty grabbed a knife. The FDNY confirms that an EMS response was sent to the scene, but only after it was determined to be a mental health emergency.

The family's claim raises questions about the handling of the incident and whether the NYPD's actions were justified. Thind described the scene as chaotic, saying "There's no reason for that... That is something that is so irrelevant to what has happened." However, the NYPD maintains that there was no evidence of immigration-related questioning by officers.

The shooting bears eerie similarities to a 2024 incident in which Win Rozario, also from the Bangladeshi Christian community, was killed by NYPD officers responding to a mental health call. The state attorney general's office declined to prosecute the officers involved in Rozario's death, but the Civilian Complaint Review Board has recommended misconduct charges against them.

The family of Jabez Chakraborty is now left grappling with the trauma of the incident and fears that their loved one may never fully recover. "She was worried that the same way that Win was killed, that her son was about to be killed by the police," Thind said of Juli Chakraborty, Jabez's mother. The NYPD must explain its actions on Monday, but for now, questions remain unanswered.

๐Ÿšจ this is getting out of hand... like what even is going on here? family says they asked for EMS, NYPD claims they didn't draw guns till son grabs knife ๐Ÿคฏ and another similar incident happens with same community & police still not held accountable ๐Ÿ˜ก how are we supposed to trust them now? FDNY confirms EMS was sent but only after deemed mental health emergency... what even is that protocol? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ this whole thing just reeks of systemic failures & cover-ups. gotta get to the bottom of this ๐Ÿ’”

omg this is so shocking ๐Ÿคฏ i mean i know we've had some problems with nyc cops in the past but four times? that's insane ๐Ÿ’ฅ and what really gets me is that they said they were responding to a mental health emergency but still ended up shooting him ๐Ÿ˜ข like did they even do anything to help? just sit there and watch as he got shot? ๐Ÿ˜“ and now his family has to deal with the trauma of this whole thing...it's just too much ๐Ÿค• i wish they would explain what happened because right now it feels like they're hiding something ๐Ÿค

<3 ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿš‘

I'm really worried about this incident... the fact that the family called 911 and specifically asked for an EMS response is so crazy ๐Ÿคฏ. If I were in their shoes, I would be freaking out too ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. I don't think it's cool that the NYPD is disputing the account of what happened... shouldn't they at least try to understand the family's perspective? ๐Ÿค”

Here's a simple diagram to show how this situation can happen:
```
This incident reminds me of the Win Rozario case, which is so disturbing ๐Ÿค•. I hope the NYPD can explain their actions and that justice is served for Jabez Chakraborty's family ๐Ÿ’”
omg this is so sad ๐Ÿ˜ญ i cant believe the cops shot someone without even calling ems first thats like, basic police training right? ๐Ÿค” and whats with all these similar cases to win rozario... i feel like theres a pattern here that needs to be looked into ๐Ÿšจ what if the family really did ask for ems and the cops just ignored them or something? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ i need more info on this one ๐Ÿ’ก
omg this is really sad... i feel so bad for jabez and his family ๐Ÿค• they're going through so much trauma right now & it's just devastating to think about how chaotic the situation was at home...i dont know what to make of the nypd's explanation tho, can we please get a clearer answer on this? maybe some body cams footage would help? ๐Ÿ’ก
๐Ÿ˜ฑ I'm literally shaking thinking about this - it's just too similar to that Win Rozario incident last year... ๐Ÿค• how can the NYPD not get their stories straight?! The family is saying they called 911 and specifically asked for an EMS response, but the cops are saying it was a mental health emergency? That's some crazy inconsistencies right there. And what about all those witnesses who claim to have seen the officers grabbing guns before the shooting even started? ๐Ÿค” I'm just waiting for the truth to come out... this whole thing feels super fishy.
OMG this is so not cool ๐Ÿคฏ - how can they just shoot someone 4 times and then claim it was a mental health emergency? ๐Ÿš‘ It seems like such a clear case of police brutality to me ๐Ÿ˜ก. I mean what if the family had really needed help, would the cops have been able to get there in time? ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ The fact that they went in without calling EMS first is just red flag territory ๐Ÿ”ด. We need more transparency and accountability from the NYPD ASAP ๐Ÿ’ฏ
๐Ÿคฏ Another innocent life lost due to overzealous cops who apparently think a 911 call is an invitation to a SWAT raid ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅ. A family requests an EMS response, and what do the NYPD do? Shoot their son without calling it in first ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. Meanwhile, they're trying to downplay everything and claim there was no immigration-related questioning ๐Ÿ™„. It's like they think we all believe that cop story ๐Ÿคฅ. The fact that this incident bears eerie similarities to another shooting just last year is a huge red flag ๐Ÿ”ด. We need some real answers here, not just spin from the NYPD ๐Ÿ’ฌ. Can't we trust our law enforcement agencies to handle situations like this with care and compassion? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ข
I'm really concerned about this incident and I think the family has a point, you know? ๐Ÿค” They did say they asked for EMS, which seems like a pretty clear request for help. But at the same time, I get why the NYPD might think it was a mental health emergency... it does sound pretty chaotic. ๐Ÿ’ฅ The fact that there's no reason for the police to be drawing their guns in the first place just adds to my concerns. ๐Ÿค• And yeah, this whole thing reminds me of Win Rozario, which is just really sad and frustrating. ๐Ÿ˜” Can't we all just get along? I hope the NYPD gets its act together and explains what happened here. It's gotta be better than "we're not saying anything". ๐Ÿ’ฌ
OMG, this is soooo disturbing ๐Ÿค•! Like, I cant even believe what happened to Jabez... the family is saying that the police shot him without calling EMS first, which is like, a total emergency situation ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’‰. And then the NYPD is all "it was a mental health emergency" but it doesn't sound like that at all ๐Ÿค”. It sounds like they just showed up and started shooting... that's so not right.
I'm also thinking about Win Rozario, who got shot by the same police officers last year... it's like, what is going on here? ๐Ÿšจ The fact that there wasn't even a prosecution for the officers involved in his death is just, like, wow ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. I feel so bad for Jabez's family and for Simran Thind, who's going through all this trauma... my heart goes out to them ๐Ÿ’”.
The NYPD needs to explain themselves ASAP ๐Ÿ“ but until then, it's just, like, really hard to understand what happened ๐Ÿคฏ.
๐Ÿšจ I'm still trying to process this... it sounds like a real mess to me ๐Ÿคฏ. If the family really did call 911 and specifically asked for an EMS response, then why didn't the NYPD do that first? It just seems like they were already on their way to respond to what was supposed to be a mental health emergency... ๐Ÿš‘. This whole thing is super confusing and I need more info before I can even start thinking about whether the cops' actions were justified ๐Ÿ˜’.
ugh my heart is literally breaking thinking about jabez i cant even imagine going thru what his mom is feeling rn she just wants answers and some kinda justice 4 her son can we get a more thorough investigation done by the authorities ASAP? this is so messed up it feels like they're playing with ppl lives 5 yrs ago wint Rozario went thru same thing & we didnt see any change now
๐Ÿšจ this is absolutely insane ๐Ÿ˜ฑ NYPD can't even get a mental health call right? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธEMS shows up after they determine it's not an immigration issue... what kinda "protocol" is that?! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ and to make matters worse, the family is still getting the runaround from the department. Juli Chakraborty's concerns about her son's safety are legit - how can she trust them now?! ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ this whole thing stinks of cover-ups & corruption ๐Ÿ‘€
this is super sad... I mean, can't believe it's happening again ๐Ÿค•. my heart goes out to the family of jabez chakraborty and julian thind. the fact that they called 911 and specifically asked for medical transport but still got shot by the police is just not right. how many more lives do we have to lose before things change? NYPD needs to get its act together and make sure this doesn't happen again. I'm also thinking about Win Rozario's family, it's like they're living in a nightmare ๐ŸŒช๏ธ. our communities need protection, not harm.
๐Ÿ˜ž this is really troubling... a family already dealing with a mental health emergency and then gets shot by the very people they called for help? what if the police officers had just waited outside while an ambulance arrived, instead of going in guns blazing? so many questions about what really happened that day and who's to blame. the fact that it bears similarities to another incident last year is just heartbreaking... can't we do better than this to support our most vulnerable citizens? ๐Ÿ’”
๐Ÿค• this is so worrying, i cant believe how many times these incidents happen in NYC ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’” the fact that the family specifically asked for an EMS response and yet the cops still shot their son without calling first is just shocking ๐Ÿคฏ what happened to Win Rozario last year? it seems like NYPD is not taking necessary precautions when dealing with mental health emergencies ๐Ÿ˜” how can the community trust them now? ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ i hope justice will be served for Jabez's family and that they get the answers they deserve ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ‘€
๐Ÿค• this is getting too familiar... another young life lost due to a mental health crisis gone wrong ๐Ÿš‘. the fact that the family explicitly asked for EMS response over police doesn't seem to matter when it comes to the NYPD's actions ๐Ÿ’”. the system is supposed to prioritize human lives, not justify deadly force by claiming it was necessary in some way ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. the lack of accountability from the police department and the state attorney general's office is appalling ๐Ÿ˜ก. we need real reform, not just Band-Aid solutions that perpetuate this cycle of violence ๐Ÿ’€.
I'm really concerned about this one... ๐Ÿค” I mean, a family calls 911 saying their son is having a mental health emergency and they need EMS to come, but then the cops show up and start shooting without even calling EMS first? That's just crazy talk. What if it was any of us on the other end of that phone? The family says they asked for medical transport, not police, so what did the NYPD really do when they showed up at this kid's house? This whole thing reeks of a cover-up and I want to see some real accountability from our law enforcement agencies. ๐Ÿšจ
