Family sues Batavia chiropractor over alleged hidden-camera recordings

West Suburban Chiropractor Accused of Secretly Recording Patients Under the guise of Light Therapy, Now Facing Multiple Counts of Child Pornography and Videorecording a Minor.

In a shocking turn of events, four patients - including two minors - have filed a civil lawsuit against David Hanson, owner of Hanson Family Chiropractic in Batavia, Illinois. The patients allege that Hanson secretly recorded them while they were undressed and receiving light therapy treatments in private rooms. The lawsuit claims that the chiropractor installed hidden cameras behind vents or fans to capture areas where patients would be instructed to disrobe.

The allegations have left many families feeling distressed and betrayed, as Hanson is also facing multiple counts of producing and sharing child pornography, possessing child pornography, and unauthorized video recording of a minor in criminal court. It is reported that over 180 secret video recordings of patients were made between 2017 and 2025.

Lawyers representing the plaintiffs have stated that dozens more lawsuits on behalf of other victims are expected to be filed against Hanson. The lawsuit seeks at least $50,000 for each plaintiff on each of the eight counts alleged, which include invasion of privacy, negligence, and violation of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act.

State Rep. Curtis Tarver has announced plans to file a bill aimed at protecting children's civil rights in private spaces within businesses. The proposed law would prohibit hidden cameras in areas where people expect privacy, such as bathrooms, locker rooms, and medical treatment rooms, and require clear disclosure of video recording practices in businesses.

The use of hidden cameras in private settings has been highlighted in recent cases, including an incident at an ice cream shop in which a former employee claimed that the owner had secretly recorded 11 female employees. Legal experts have described this practice as a "festering problem" that violates trust and causes harm to victims.

😱🤯 can't believe this is happening in our own backyard! how could someone do this to innocent people? 🙅‍♂️ it's like Hanson thought he was above the law or something. those hidden cameras were just waiting to be discovered and now people are left feeling traumatized and violated 💔. what's even more messed up is that he's not only accused of child porn but also of recording a minor without their consent 🚫. this is a huge wake-up call for all of us to be more vigilant about our personal safety and boundaries in private spaces... like, how can we even trust businesses to have our backs? 🤝 need to see those laws get passed ASAP! 💪

🤕 This is why we need better laws, not more lawsuits! 💼

Can't believe some chiropractors think they can get away with exploiting people's trust... shame on you, Doc 🙅‍♂️

Ugh 🤕, can you believe this guy? He's like something out of a bad movie. Secretly recording patients while they're naked... what is wrong with some people?! It's disgusting 😷 and the fact that he's accused of making and sharing child porn? Are we living in a nightmare?! The fact that families are feeling betrayed and hurt because of this man's actions just makes my blood boil 💣. And to make matters worse, there are more victims expected to come forward with lawsuits... it's like he's going to bankrupt himself trying to cover up his sick behavior 😒. I hope the authorities throw the book at him and get him some serious time behind bars ⚠️. The fact that a proposed law is being filed to protect people's rights in private spaces? About darn time 🙏... it's about time someone did something to hold these predators accountable!

omg u guys i'm literally shook rn i mean i know we need more laws protecting our privacy but like how did someone even think it was ok to record ppl in private rooms?! 🤯👀 i can imagine being a patient at Hanson's chiropractic office and thinking you're getting help for your back and then BAM hidden cameras everywhere ugh my anxiety is spiking just thinking about it 🙈

i also feel so bad for the minors who were recorded by him i cant even imagine how traumatizing that must be for them and their families 💔🤷‍♀️

and like what's going on with this one rep Curtis Tarver he's trying to file a bill to protect kids' civil rights in private spaces but it's just not enough we need more action being taken ASAP 🚨💪

🤕 This whole thing is just disgusting... I mean, who does something like that? You're supposed to be helping people feel better, not recording them without their consent. It's like Hanson thought he was above the law or something. Newsflash: you can't just hide cameras everywhere and expect nobody will find out. The fact that he made all those secret videos is just chilling... 😱

I think this case highlights how important it is for businesses to be transparent about their practices, especially when it comes to recording people in private settings. It's not just about respecting patients' right to privacy, but also about building trust with your customers. If you're going to record people, at least make sure they know why and give them a choice. Otherwise, you're just taking advantage of people.

This whole thing is making me want to rethink everything I thought I knew about healthcare providers... 😩 Can we please do better than this? Let's start holding our healthcare providers accountable for their actions. We need laws that protect us from being recorded without our consent and that punish those who break the law. 💪
