Fifa urged to halt World Cup ticket sales after 'monumental betrayal' of fans

FIFA under fire over extortionate World Cup ticket prices that could cost fans thousands.

A monumental betrayal of football's fans has been claimed by Football Supporters Europe (FSE) after the cheapest tickets for next summer's World Cup final were revealed to be over £3,000. The shocking prices have sparked outrage among supporters groups, who argue that these rates are nothing short of extortionate.

The news comes as England fans discovered that tickets to follow their team through the tournament could cost up to $16,590 (£12,375) in top categories. Clarity on ticket prices was provided by Croatia's football federation publishing prices for participant member associations (PMAs), which means tickets are sold at fixed prices rather than dynamic pricing.

FSE claims that the minimum price a fan can expect to pay to watch their team from the first match to the final is $6,900 (£5,137.74) – five times more than it would have cost in Qatar two years ago. The figure could double when factoring in costs such as flights and accommodation.

"This is a monumental betrayal of the tradition of the World Cup, ignoring the contribution of supporters to the spectacle it is," said FSE. "We call on FIFA to immediately halt PMA ticket sales, engage in consultation with all impacted parties, and review ticket prices and category distribution until a solution that respects the tradition, universality, and cultural significance of the World Cup is found."

Supporters groups across the continent are also speaking out against the high ticket prices. The England Supporters Travel Club discovered that the cheapest tickets for their opening match would cost $265 (£195) – significantly less than what FIFA has announced.

"This can't be allowed to happen," said Free Lions, an England supporters group. "Match-goers around the world deserve protection from these rip-off prices."

FIFA has yet to comment on the outrage surrounding ticket prices.

OMG, this is like, a total example of how greed can mess with the fan experience 🤯! I mean, who in their right mind would charge fans THOUSANDS of dollars for a ticket? It's just not fair, you know? The prices are literally OUT OF THIS WORLD 💫. And to think that some fans have to shell out $16,590 just to watch England play?! That's like, insane 😱.

This is where the concept of 'the customer is always right' falls flat. I mean, shouldn't football be for everyone, regardless of how much cash you've got? It's like FIFA has turned their back on the very fans who make the World Cup happen 🙅‍♂️. The fact that Croatia came up with a more transparent and fair system is just rubbing it in our faces 🤣.

This whole situation is teaching us a valuable lesson - when people are only looking out for themselves, without considering the impact on others, chaos ensues 😳. It's time for FIFA to step back, listen to their fans, and find a solution that works for everyone, not just those with deep pockets 💸.

I'm so sorry to hear that fans are feeling ripped off by FIFA's ticket prices 🤕. £3,000+ for a World Cup final? That's just heartbreaking 😔. It's like they're pricing out an entire generation of football lovers who can't afford to follow their teams in person.

And what's really disappointing is that the prices are so much higher than what it was even two years ago 🤦‍♂️. I mean, we get it, ticket sales need to be managed, but this seems like a complete cash grab 💸.

FIFA needs to listen to all the fans out there and find a way to make these games more accessible, not less 😊. It's supposed to be a celebration of football for everyone, not just the wealthy few 🌎. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll sort this out soon ⚡️.

OMG, I'm literally speechless 🤯... £3k for a single ticket?! That's just crazy! 😱 FIFA needs to seriously re-think their pricing strategy - it's like they're trying to price out fans from attending the games altogether 🤑. And what really grinds my gears is that these prices are basically double what we had 2 yrs ago in Qatar 💸. I'm all for transparency and fair ticketing, but £12k+ for a single England match? Unbelievable! 😂

And to think that fans have already been asked to pay thousands just for flights and accommodation 🚫... it's like FIFA wants to suck the fun out of football 🤦‍♀️. FSE is totally right - they need to take immediate action, review their ticket prices, and make sure that all fans can enjoy the World Cup without breaking the bank 💪. Come on, FIFA, get your act together! 👊

🚨💸 this is outta control fam! £3k+ for a final? it's like they're trying to rob us blind lol what happened to affordable tickets that let fans actually enjoy the game instead of just lining their pockets? 🤑 i remember when watching football was about the love of the game, not about who can afford the most expensive seat 🎟️

man i feel for england fans theyre gonna have to break the bank to watch their team play 😱 and its not just the ticket price either flights accommodation the whole shebang is going to cost them thousands £5,137.74 for a ticket is crazy how can fifa justify these prices especially when they're going to be selling them in the first place it's like they're taking advantage of fans who love their sport so much 🤦‍♂️

OMG, like, £3k+ for a soccer match? That's insane 💸🏆! I mean, I get it, demand is high and all that, but come on, FIFA, you gotta be more considerate of your fans here 🤷‍♂️. $16k+ for an England ticket? No way, Jose! 😱 That's just price-gouging plain and simple. And to think they're saying it's the cheapest option... yeah right 🙄. I've seen cheaper flights to Paris from London 😅. It's all about making that extra cash off unsuspecting fans, and it's not cool, FIFA 👎. They need to review those prices ASAP and find a more reasonable solution for everyone involved 👍.

I'm so fed up with this World Cup ticket price thing 🤯. I mean, £3k for a final match? That's insane! How are fans supposed to afford that? They're going to have to take out loans or something. And what's with the difference between the cheapest and most expensive tickets? It's like they're just trying to rip us off 💸.

I think FIFA needs to sort this out ASAP, you know? They need to find a way to make ticket prices fair for everyone. I mean, it's the World Cup, not some exclusive club event 🏆. Fans are what make the tournament worth watching, and if they can't afford to come, then what's the point?

I'm with FSE on this one – it's a total betrayal of football fans. We're the ones who support our teams through thick and thin, and now we're being taken advantage of? No way 🚫. FIFA needs to listen to the supporters groups and find a solution that works for everyone, not just the rich few 💕.

OMG 🤯 this is insane! £3,000+ for a World Cup final ticket? That's just ridiculous! 😂 I mean, what happened to the idea of football being for everyone, not just the super rich 🤑? It's like FIFA is taking advantage of fans who just wanna watch their team play some footy ⚽️.

I'm loving that Croatia's federation published prices, though - it shows they're trying to be transparent about ticket sales. But still, it's pretty harsh on fans. I mean, imagine paying almost 7k for a single match? 😲 That's like buying a whole new laptop 💻!

FSE is right, though - this does feel like a betrayal of the World Cup tradition. The supporters are the ones who make these tournaments so special, and it's unfair that they're being priced out by super high ticket prices 🤦‍♀️.

Gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed in FIFA for not commenting on this... 😒 seems like they're just gonna sit back and let fans be ripped off. But fingers crossed they'll listen to the supporters and do something about it 🤞.

😱 The recent revelation of extortionate World Cup ticket prices is a stark reminder that the commercialization of football has reached alarming proportions 🏆. It's unacceptable that fans are being asked to shell out thousands for the privilege of attending the tournament, especially when it comes to the final match 🤯. I mean, £3,000 is just obscene - that's roughly the price of a decent used car! 🚗 What has happened to the values of football as a sport and a community? The fact that ticket prices can easily double when factoring in additional costs like flights and accommodation is simply outrageous 💸. FIFA needs to take responsibility for this and revisit their pricing strategy, rather than just leaving fans to fend for themselves 🤔. It's time to make the World Cup more accessible to everyone, not just the wealthy elite 🌎.

omg £3k for a footy final tickit?! that's just mental... i mean, i get it, they gotta cover costs and all that, but £16k for one match? that's not fair at all 🤯. i remember watching euros with my mates and we just sat in the pub drinking pints and cheering on our team, never had to pay an arm and a leg for it... what's changed now? 🤔

i think fse is right tho, these prices are extortionate and it's a betrayal of the fans. i mean, we're the ones who follow our teams all season, we've got our own rivalries and traditions... shouldn't we be prioritized? not to mention, this is supposed to be the biggest sporting event in the world, but the ticket prices are just laughable 😂.

anyway, hopefully fse can get some action on this and make sure fair prices for fans, 'cause £3k for one tickit is just not right 🤑

This is getting out of hand 🤯 $16,590 for a ticket? That's insane! I mean, I know the World Cup is a big deal and all, but come on, fans are just trying to enjoy the game, not break the bank 💸. The fact that FIFA can't even be bothered to keep prices reasonable is just...wow 😐. And what really gets me is that these prices are being sold at fixed rates, no dynamic pricing? That's like they're just trying to milk fans for every last penny 🤑. FSE needs to keep calling out FIFA on this until something changes. Fans shouldn't have to shell out thousands for a ticket, it's ridiculous 🤦‍♂️.

I'm literally fuming about this 🤯! £3,000+ for a World Cup final ticket?! That's just daylight robbery! I mean what's next? Charging fans to breathe in the stadium air?! 😂 FIFA needs to get its act together and find a way to make these tickets more affordable. Fans are already paying top dollar for travel and accommodation – they can't be expected to shell out thousands for a ticket alone.

And what's with this "PMA ticket sales" thing? Who benefits from selling tickets at fixed prices anyway? It just seems like another way for FIFA to line its pockets. I'm so fed up with the greed of football's elite... 😡

omg 😱 i cant even right now lol what is goin on with fifa? £3000+ for a wwt cup final ticket?? thats just ridiculous! fans r already payin so much money 2 watch their fave teams in qatar now they wanna charge em way more 4 the finals?? its like they dont care bout the fans anymore 🤷‍♂️

anyway i checked out that england supporters travel club link 👉 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-europe-59755117 and it says the cheapest ticket 2 watch englands opening match is $265 lol thats like 100 bucks more than what fifa is askin 4! fans r gettin ripped off big time 🤑

Ticket prices are getting out of hand 🤯 FIFA needs to get its act together and find a way to make those crazy prices more affordable for fans. I mean, £3k+ for a final match? That's just ridiculous 💸. It's all about the benjamins, not the beautiful game anymore 😒.

omg is it really that bad? £3k for a final match 🤯 i feel for the england fans but 6k for the whole tournament seems steep even though Croatia's federation showed us that fixed prices could be more reasonable like $100 for a stadium tour in qatar compared to $16k for an england ticket 📈 fse is right tho it's a betrayal of football's fans

omg i cant even believe the prices theyre charging for those world cup tickets lol like who can afford that kinda cash?? thats not football anymore its more like just a fancy party for rich people 😂 i remember when me and my friends used to go watch the england game at wembley and it was never more than 50 quid each 🤑 now its like we dont even belong there its so sad 😔

I'm literally fuming right now about this 🤯 FIFA needs to get its act together and sort out these ridiculously high ticket prices ASAP! It's absolutely mental that fans could be expected to shell out upwards of £12,000 for a single match ticket... I mean, what even is the point of having a World Cup if you can't even watch your own team play?! 😱

And it gets worse - FSE is saying that if you factor in travel and accommodation costs, these prices could double 🤑. That's just outrageous! I know there are gonna be some big bucks on the line from sponsorships and whatnot, but at least FIFA should be able to make sure fans can afford to enjoy the tournament without breaking the bank.

It's not just about the money either - it's about the tradition of the World Cup. It's supposed to be a celebration of football for everyone, not some exclusive club for those who have deep pockets 💸. FIFA needs to step up and do what's right here... fans are counting on them 🤞

😕 I'm so disappointed in FIFA right now 🤦‍♂️. The prices for World Cup tickets are absolutely out of control 💸. I mean, £3,000 for a final match? That's insane! And it's not just that, but also the cost of flights and accommodation on top of that... it's like they're pricing fans out of their own tournament 🚫.

I get that there are costs involved, but come on FIFA, you have to do better than this 😔. The World Cup is supposed to be a celebration of football for everyone, not just the wealthy few 💥. I hope FIFA listens to the concerns of the supporters groups and does something about it soon 🤞.
