Football Daily | 'Pure logic' and a final fantasy: Manchester City will have to play by the rules

Manchester City's Pep Guardiola has reignited a debate over Fizzy Cup rules after his team qualified for the final despite having a player ineligible to participate due to an unusual loophole.

Guardiola has expressed frustration with the competition's rules, specifically article 6.4.2, which states that a player can only represent two clubs in Fizzy Cup if they join the second club before the semi-final leg begins. However, Manchester City's January acquisition Marc Guéhi was not allowed to play in the final as he joined the team after they had won their first-leg match against Newcastle United.

Guardiola has questioned why Guéhi is ineligible to participate, despite paying his salary and being a key player for the team. The manager stated that the rules are "pure logic" but acknowledged that the competition's governing bodies may have concerns about his eligibility.

It appears that Manchester City will attempt to appeal against Guéhi's ineligibility, although it's unclear whether this will be successful. The team's struggles with defensive injuries may also play a role in their decision-making.

Separately, Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler has spoken highly of veteran midfielder James Milner, who is set to make his record-equalling 653rd Premier League appearance against Liverpool on Friday night.

Aww man... this gotta be so stressin' for Pep and the lads 🤕. I can imagine how frustrating it must be for them to have a player like Guéhi who's been doin' so well, only to be held back by a silly rule 🙄. It's not fair that he gets penalized just 'cause he joined the team after they already won their first leg match 😒. I hope Pep can get this sorted out for his team and that Guéhi gets to shine on the big stage 🤞. And omg, James Milner is about to break that Premier League appearance record? That's amazing! 💥

omg this is so confusing!!! 🤯 Fizzy Cup rules are already a mess, and now they're trying to break the rule because their player joined after the first leg? 😂 that's some sneaky stuff! I feel for Pep Guardiola, he's frustrated and rightfully so. I don't blame him for questioning the logic behind the rules 🤔. On a separate note, James Milner is literally a legend 🙌 653 Premier League appearances is insane! Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler must be stoked to see his player shine 💥

The Fizzy Cup rules are getting messy 🤯! I mean, it's one thing to have a rule in place, but when you create an unusual loophole like this, it's time for the governing bodies to take another look at it.

It's all good for Manchester City that they're appealing against Guéhi's ineligibility, but if they can't even get their own player sorted out, how are they gonna take on Liverpool and Brighton? 🤦‍♂️ The fact that Guéhi was paid his salary and performed like a pro before joining the team should be enough to let him play, don't you think?

And on a different note, I'm loving the drama between Brighton and Liverpool. James Milner's got some serious history with those guys 🤣. Either way, Friday night's match is gonna be fire 🔥!

I mean, can you believe this Fizzy Cup drama? 🤯 Pep Guardiola's right to be frustrated, though - it just seems so unfair that Guéhi got stuck with the rules. I've been playing in my favorite online game for years and I know how frustrating it is when the devs introduce new rules at the last minute. It's like they forgot about all the players who had already invested time and effort into the game! 😩 Anyway, I'm guessing Manchester City will try to appeal, but fingers crossed they don't get a slap on the wrist... and meanwhile, can we talk about James Milner? 🙌 653 Premier League appearances? That's just insane!

idk why they can't just relax the rules a bit 🤷‍♂️ its like they're trying to be all strict and whatnot... i mean marc guéhi's been paying his dues for like months now, he should be allowed to play in the final 💸. and pepe gotta ask the right people, like the governing bodies or whatever, if it's really a big deal 🤔. it's not like they're gonna win the cup because of one player's eligibility 😂.

I mean, can you believe this Fizzy Cup drama?! 🤯 I'm all for a fair shake, but this rules thingy just doesn't add up, ya know? So, Marc Guéhi joins Manchester City, pays his dues, and suddenly he's not eligible to play in the final? That just don't sit right with me... it's like they're trying to find ways to screw with teams that are already struggling. I'm rooting for them to appeal this, 'cause come on, he's a part of the team now! 🤷‍♂️

man this Fizzy Cup rules thingy is getting outta hand 🤯 i dont get why it cant be just simplified... like what even is the point of having a "2 club rule" anyway? and marc guéhi just joined the team and now he cant play in the final? that sounds like a legit loophole to me 😂 but i guess the governing bodies are trying to keep things "pure logic" or whatever 🤷‍♂️ i mean, if the guy is paying his salary and being a key player, shouldn't that count for something? idk man, just seems like they need to revisit these rules and make them more reasonable 👍
