Freight train derails in South Deering

A freight train's brakes failed in South Deering, sending four tanker cars off a set of tracks near 99th Street and Marquette Avenue. The Chicago Fire Department was quick to respond to the scene, with firefighters arriving shortly after the derailment.

According to preliminary reports, there is no indication that any of the tankers have leaked their contents, but it remains unclear what exactly they were carrying. Video footage captured by WGN-TV shows the tanker cars lying off the tracks and at least one on its side, while emergency crews can be seen on the scene.

Fortunately, the derailment did not disrupt service for Metra or Amtrak trains, which were unaffected by the incident. The Chicago Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Ugh, what a nightmare! I mean, can't these freight trains just get their brakes checked already? 🙄 It's like they're asking to be in an accident or something. And the thought of those tanker cars lying on the side of the tracks is giving me chills. What if one of them did leak its contents and spilled all over the place? That would be a whole other level of disaster. I'm glad no one was hurt, but seriously, who's responsible for these types of accidents? And how do they even let this happen in the first place? The Fire Department is on it now, so fingers crossed they can figure out what went wrong and fix it ASAP.

I heard that freight train brake failure was super scary 🚨😬. I mean can u imagine all those tanker cars just coming loose like that? Lucky no one got hurt and no tankers spilled their contents... or so we know 🤞 still trying to figure out what they were carrying though, that's weird 💡

OMG, what a crazy close call! 🚨😱 I'm just glad no one was hurt. Can you even imagine those tanker cars exploding? 😬 It's always terrifying when trains derail, but the fact that it happened in a relatively safe area helps. The Chicago Fire Dept is being super quick to respond, so fingers crossed they figure out what went wrong soon.

I do wonder what kind of cargo was on those tankers, though... maybe some hazardous materials? 🤔 Either way, I'm just glad the Metra and Amtrak trains were not affected. That would've been a major headache for commuters already stuck in traffic.

I hope the investigation goes smoothly and gets to the bottom of this. You'd think with all the safety measures in place, accidents like this shouldn't happen... but I guess you never know what's gonna go wrong. 🤦‍♀️ Keep those firefighters safe! 💪

Just heard about that crazy freight train derailment in South Deering 🚨💥 can't believe how lucky no one got hurt tho! what a nightmare scenario for the people living around that area 🌆 hope the firefighters were able to contain everything quickly and safely 💪 so important to have trained responders on the scene ASAP especially with all the cargo involved... you never know what kind of hazardous materials could be leaking out 🤯 fingers crossed it was just a mechanical failure and not something more serious 🤞

OMG, that's so crazy 🤯! A freight train with four tanker cars just derailing in the middle of a residential area? It's like something straight outta a movie 😲 I mean, I've heard of accidents happening on trains before, but this is just wild. I hope no one was hurt in the process and that the crew was okay too 🙏.

It's crazy to think about what could have happened if those tanker cars had leaked their contents... who knows what kind of mess it would've been 😬. But thankfully, it looks like the emergency crews were on the scene quick smart and everything is under control for now ⏱️. I'm just glad no one was seriously injured, fingers crossed that's the case 🤞.

I wonder what could've caused the brakes to fail in the first place? Was it a faulty system or something else entirely? The investigation will have to sort that out 💡. Either way, I hope they get to the bottom of it and prevent anything like this from happening again 🚫💪

🚨😬 That's crazy! I'm so glad no one was hurt in this accident 🙏. Four tanker cars just lying off the tracks near a busy street? It's insane how quickly things can go wrong with our infrastructure 💥. And not knowing what those tankers were carrying is super unsettling... like, was it oil or something? 😬 I'm also really relieved that the Metra and Amtrak trains weren't affected 🙌. You'd think that kind of thing would be a bigger deal for commuters who rely on those services 🚂. The Chicago Fire Dept is doing their job, but I hope they get to the bottom of this soon 🔍. We need more transparency about what's going on with our train tracks and safety measures 🤔.

omg what a nightmare this couldve been so close to disaster and luckily no leaks lol wgn tv vids r insane i cant even imagine the fire department reactin like that 4 tankers just chillin on da tracks btw did u hear its unclear whats in dem thingz hopefully they get to the bottom of it

🚨 I'm not surprised this happened in South Deering, to be honest... the area's always been a hot mess 🤯. It's just another example of how our rail infrastructure's due for an upgrade. Those old tracks are just begging to fail 😴. And what's up with the mystery tanker cars? Shouldn't we know what we're hauling around this country? It's like we're living in a Wild West where no one asks questions 🤠. Anyway, glad no one got hurt (from the derailment) but it's just another reminder that our rail system needs some serious TLC 💪.

ugh i cant even imagine how scary that must've been for those people in south deering 🙅‍♂️ they must've heard that train rumble and thought their world was over. can u imagine being like 10 feet away from a giant tanker car just lying there on its side? the footage is crazy, it looks like something out of a movie 🎥 but at least no one got hurt which is literally the most important thing right now. im so glad those firefighters responded ASAP, they saved who knows how many lives that day. what were these tankers even carrying anyway? hopefully the fire department gets to the bottom of it and finds out soon. i just keep thinking about all those people on those trains that could've been affected by this and its giving me anxiety lol 😂🚫

😐 so this whole thing sounds like a big mess, but thankfully no one got hurt... yet? 🤞 i mean, can you imagine if those tankers had actually leaked something? that would be a nightmare to deal with 🚮. anyway, it's good to hear that the Metra and Amtrak trains weren't affected, so at least some people can still get where they need to go without too much hassle 🚌. the fact that the brake failure happened on a set of tracks near 99th Street is just one of those things that you don't see every day... you're just sitting there, minding your own business, and then suddenly you've got a freight train careening out of control 💥. i'm sure the fire department is doing their best to figure out what went wrong, but it's gonna take some time, right? ⏰

💡 So I'm watching this video and it's crazy how quickly those firefighters responded! 4 tanker cars just went off the tracks near 99th Street and Marquette Avenue... hope nobody got hurt. Don't know what they were carrying, so fingers crossed everything is okay. The fact that Metra and Amtrak trains weren't affected by this is a big relief 🙌. Chicago Fire Department is gonna have to do some serious investigating to figure out what went wrong. Hope it's just a one-off mistake and not something more serious... 🤞

man... what a crazy day in chicago 🤯😱 four tanker cars off the tracks near marquette ave and 99th street? that's just wild 😲 hope nobody got hurt when those trains came crashin' down 🚂💥 i dont no what was in them, but glad no one leaked out or anything. you gotta feel for the fire department tho, they're always on call like 24/7 and this is just another day at the office 🤷‍♂️ hopefully they figure out what happened soon so everyone can get back to normal life 👍

Ugh man I'm still shaking my head about this freight train disaster in South Deering 🤯! Can you even imagine what it must've been like to witness that?! Four tanker cars just lost control and ended up on their sides... it's a miracle nobody was seriously hurt, right? The footage is crazy - I mean, I'm glad those emergency responders were there ASAP because it could've been so much worse 🙏. And can we talk about how the Chicago Fire Department is investigating this like, what even went wrong?! Did the brakes fail due to wear and tear or was it some kind of human error? I mean, I get that accidents happen but still... it's just so frustrating when things like this keep happening in our city 🤦‍♂️. Anyway, glad Metra and Amtrak trains were unaffected - now let's hope the cause gets figured out and everyone can go back to normal life 💨

idk man... like i'm really relieved that no one got hurt from this crash 🙏 but at the same time, i'm kinda worried about the stuff in those tankers 🤔 they didn't spill anything so far, but what if it did? and what were they even carrying in the first place? 🚨 not knowing is super frustrating... and yeah, i guess the fact that metra and amtrak trains weren't affected is a plus 🙌 but can we ever really be sure something like this isn't gonna happen again? 💥

🚂😬 just saw that freight train crash in South Deering and it's crazy 🤯 i was thinking about how those tanker cars would behave if they leaked their contents all over the place ⚠️ it's like a ticking time bomb, you know? 🕰️ i drew a quick diagram to try and visualize the situation...
```
+---------------+
i mean, what if the contents are flammable or toxic? 🤕 it's just a nightmare scenario. i hope the investigation finds out what happened and that no one was seriously hurt 😔
omg what if they were carrying some crazy stuff like hazardous waste lol i mean can u imagine those tanker cars just lying there on the tracks? 🤯 anyway thats kinda cool that its not affecting trains, but still super scary to think about a big mess 😬 and hopefully the firefighters get to the bottom of it soon i wonder if its gonna be one of those things where they gotta replace the whole rail system lol
🚂😬 So, now we got a freight train derailing in one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Chicago and nobody's saying what was on those tankers? 🤔 I mean, come on, this is like a ticking time bomb just waiting to happen! What if it were a different type of cargo? Would that be just as bad? And have we learned anything from other incidents like the Flint water crisis or the Boston Marathon bombing? We need to know what's in those tankers before they can even occur! 🚨 And what about the safety record of these freight trains? Are they properly maintained and monitored? It seems like a lot of questions unanswered here... 😒
This recent train derailment in South Deering has left me pondering the complexities of modern transportation infrastructure 😕. While it's fortunate that no tankers have leaked their contents, I'm intrigued by the mystery surrounding the cargo itself. The fact that we're still unsure about what was being transported raises important questions about safety protocols and emergency preparedness 🚨.
As an observer, it's clear that the response from the Chicago Fire Department was swift and effective, with firefighters arriving on the scene in a timely manner 💪. However, the investigation into the cause of this accident highlights the need for ongoing evaluation and improvement of our rail infrastructure 📊. Perhaps this incident serves as a catalyst for reassessing safety measures and sharing best practices across transportation agencies 🔄.
