Frequent online shopping is tied to higher stress levels, study shows

Research Suggests Online Shopping May Be Fueling Stress for Many

A recent study has found a surprising correlation between online shopping and increased stress levels among adults. The research, published earlier this month, tracked the activities of nearly 1,500 adults over seven months, collecting data from millions of website visits and app uses.

The findings reveal that individuals who spent more time browsing social media were more likely to report feeling stressed compared to those who engaged in other online activities such as reading news or gaming. On the other hand, users who spent a significant amount of time on news sites reported lower stress levels.

Interestingly, men tend to experience less stress than women, and older, wealthier individuals also reported fewer stress-related issues. However, the study's authors caution that their research does not establish causality between online shopping or social media use and increased stress levels.

One researcher noted that previous studies have shown that people often turn to online shopping as a means of coping with stress, but this new study suggests that excessive internet use may be contributing to higher stress levels. The study's authors argue that further research is needed to fully understand the relationship between online activity and stress.

While the exact dynamics between social media, online shopping, and stress are still unclear, the findings highlight the need for individuals to be mindful of their online habits and to explore healthier coping mechanisms.

OMG I feel like I'm guilty of this 😂 I mean I love scrolling through my feeds and buying stuff online it's just so convenient 🛍️ but at the same time I've noticed I get way more anxious when I spend hours on social media 🤯 and then I'll see all these ads for things I don't even need anymore and I'm like "wait what am I doing with my life" 🤑 anyway I guess it's good to know that maybe we should limit our online shopping or take breaks from social media every now and then 💻

🤔 I mean, it's not surprising that people get stressed from all this online stuff, right? I've noticed myself getting anxious when I'm scrolling through my feeds all day 📱💻... like, I need a break from it or something! But at the same time, I love shopping online too 😂. It's just gotta be in moderation, you know? I feel like we need to take care of ourselves more online and less on our devices 🙏.
