Goat review – noisy, lightning-speed basketball animation does it for the kids

"Goat" is a noisy, frenetic animated basketball comedy aimed squarely at kids, but despite its colorful premise and familiar formula, it fails to win hearts with its soulless, algorithmically-generated charm.

The film's unlikely connection lies in real-life basketball star Stephen Curry, who serves as a producer and has a starring role. However, his involvement cannot compensate for the movie's glaring lack of emotional resonance or genuine character development.

Voice acting is one area where "Goat" shows some promise, with Caleb McLaughlin delivering a charming performance as Will Harris, a small but determined goat with big dreams of playing professional "roarball". The supporting cast, including Gabrielle Union as the panther star Jet, adds to the film's visual appeal.

The animation is fast-paced and visually striking, with lightning speed games and thrilling action sequences. However, this frenetic energy also comes at a cost: the film's jokes are lost in the noise, and the constant barrage of sensory stimuli leaves viewers feeling overwhelmed.

For all its technical proficiency, "Goat" feels like a shallow attempt to capitalize on recent animated hits like "Zootropolis", "Sing", and other talking animal flicks. The plot, an underdog tale that's been done countless times before, is as predictable and formulaic as it is tired.

Despite its colorful setting and basketball action, "Goat" ultimately feels like a headache-inducing experience – one that's unlikely to leave viewers feeling uplifted or entertained. As for whether it's the greatest animated film of all time? Hardly.

idk man, I'm totally disagreeing with myself here 🤔... I think "Goat" is kinda fun and all, it's got some sick animation and that soundtrack is lit 🔥! But then again, I remember watching the trailer and thinking it was way too loud and chaotic, like my grandma's house when she's making dinner 😂. And don't even get me started on how overdone the underdog story is... can't they think outside the box for once? 🤯 Still, I guess it's a solid choice if you're gonna be watching animated flicks with your kids or something, just don't expect me to go see it twice myself 😴.

I don’t usually comment but... I was really looking forward to this movie and my kids were hyped about it, so we went in with high expectations. The animation is insane, no doubt about that 🤯. But for me, it's like they're trying too hard to be funny and the jokes fall flat. Caleb McLaughlin is actually pretty cute as the goat, though 😊. I think my kids liked it because of the sports aspect, but we all ended up feeling kinda meh about the whole thing. Maybe I'm just old 🙃. Anyway, if you're gonna see this, don't say I didn’t warn you...

I don't get why they're gonna make fun of Goat just cuz it's trying 2 b funny 4 kids 🤷‍♂️. I mean, animation is all about having fun & bringing colors 2 life, right? Ani-mators r tryin to entertain, not win any Oscar 🏆. And, idk, I think the energy in Goat is kinda infectious - it's like watchin a super energetic kid play basketball 🏀! Even if some jokes fell flat, I still had fun laughin & cheerin on Will Harris 🐐💪

Ugh, I just watched this new movie "Goat" with my grandkids 🤣...it was a total letdown! The animation was so crazy fast and colorful, but honestly, it was just too much for me 😩. And don't even get me started on the jokes - they were all lost in the noise like you said. I think what really disappointed me was that despite having Stephen Curry involved, the movie felt empty inside. My grandkids loved it though, but that's not exactly what I want to shell out my hard-earned cash for 😒...just a shallow attempt at making money off other people's success.

Man... I'm watching this movie with my little nephew and he's just gonna end up disliking it too 🤷‍♂️, you know? It's like they took every cliche from 'Zootropolis' and just ran with it, no questions asked 💔. And don't even get me started on the overstimulation - I'm an adult and I felt like my brain was gonna explode after 20 minutes 🤯. What's the point of making a movie that's just gonna leave you feeling drained? Can we strive for something more than just entertainment, but also emotional growth or even just a sense of wonder? The animation is sick tho 😎, but it's not enough to save this movie from its own emptiness. I guess what I'm saying is, maybe we need to rethink our priorities when it comes to what makes a 'great' animated film...

I don't know if I'd take my kids to see this one 🤔, too much noise and not enough heart for me. The animation is super cool though, love the robo-ball scenes 💥! But seriously, it feels like they're just phoning it in with a formula that's been done before. Where's the depth? The emotional pay-off? I mean, Caleb McLaughlin does a great job as the goat, but even he can't save this one from itself 😐.

omg i just saw the trailer for goat and its soooo colorful 🤪 but idk if its gonna be good lol i mean steph curry is in it tho 🙌 i love his shots on the court btw did they show any of those cool shots from space jam? anyway im kinda worried that i might get headaches from all the fast-paced action 🤯 can we talk about something else? what's the best type of pizza topping?

I just saw this new animated movie 'Goat' with my little one and honestly I was so disappointed 😐. The animation is crazy fast-paced and looks super cool, but the jokes are just too much 🤯. It feels like they're trying to cram in as many funny moments as possible and it's just overwhelming. I love Stephen Curry and I thought he'd be a great addition to the film, but sadly the movie itself doesn't live up to his star power 🤷‍♂️. The main character is actually pretty cool though, Caleb McLaughlin does a great job 😊. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer movies with more substance and less noise 🙅‍♂️.
