Gov. Hochul kicks off campaign: 'You don't want to mess with the bad-ass women of New York'

New York State Democrats Elect Governor Hochul as Party's Nominee for 2026 Election

In a show of unity and support, convention delegates at the Democratic Party's statewide ticket convention on Friday elected Governor Kathy Hochul as their nominee for the 2026 election. The governor, who will be seeking her second full term in office, argued that she deserves re-election to push back against President Donald Trump's policies and continue initiatives she has already enacted.

During her lengthy speech, Hochul emphasized the importance of achieving a better New York and ensuring everyone has access to opportunities. She also pointed to several key policy proposals, including expanding child tax credits and banning cellphones in schools. The governor is currently pushing for a $260 billion budget that does not raise income taxes, as well as new laws to restrict federal immigration enforcement.

The nomination was largely unopposed, with Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado failing to receive the necessary 25% of weighted votes needed to secure a spot on the June primary ballot. Despite this, Delgado vowed to continue his primary challenge and circulate nominating petitions.

Hochul's running mate, former New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, was also announced during the convention. The two women are both political moderates but will be facing criticism from progressive candidates who have expressed concerns about Hochul's stance on taxation of the wealthy.

The Democratic Party's nomination for governor marks a significant moment in the 2026 election, with Republicans set to hold their own convention next week. GOP leaders have rallied behind Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman after U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik ended her bid in December.

Hochul has stated that winning back seats in the US House is just as important for the party as her own election, citing her poor 2022 electoral performance in the state as a contributing factor to Republican gains. In her closing remarks, Hochul famously declared, "You don't want to mess with the bad-ass women of New York."

idk why dems is so worried about blakeman...like governor hochul got this πŸ‘ she already done plenty for nyc and albany, and those rich ppl need 2 pay their fair share πŸ€‘πŸ‘€ but omg adrienne adams as her running mate? lol who's next? πŸ’β€β™€οΈπŸ€”

I'm not sure about this one, lol πŸ€”... I mean, it's great that Hochul is getting the Democratic nod, but can we talk about how things used to be back in 2018 when she was elected as the NYC Rep? She was all about being progressive and making change. Now, I feel like she's kinda strayed from her roots with this whole "moderate" thing πŸ™„... I get that it's politics and you gotta play both sides, but still, I'd love to see more of that fire in the speech 🎀. And what about these cell phone bans in schools? That just seems so old-school, remember when flip phones were a thing? πŸ˜‚ I know it's all about making a point, but can't we come up with something more... modern? πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

im thinking kathy hochul's got this but i'm not sure about adrienne adams being her right person lol they seem like good combo tho πŸ€”πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈ i mean who wouldn't wanna vote for a governor who's all about equal opportunities and making ny better, it's a solid plan. btw do you guys think Hochul will actually win the election? she's got some tough competition from both sides

Ugh, I'm so over these online forums 🀯. Can we just focus on real issues for once? This news about Governor Hochul being nominated by NY State Democrats is pretty interesting, but let's be real, who cares about her stance on taxation of the wealthy when we can't even have a decent discussion without trolls hijacking the thread with irrelevant memes and personal attacks πŸ˜’. Anyway, back to Hochul... I'm not sure what to make of her policy proposals. Cellphones in schools? Really? πŸ“΅πŸš«. And $260 billion budget without raising income taxes? That's just not feasible, right? Can we get some real numbers and analysis on this instead of just emotional appeals? πŸ€”

πŸ€” I think it's cool that they're all coming together like that for Governor Hochul. She seems really passionate about making NY a better place 🌟. But at the same time, some people are worried about her stance on taxation of the wealthy... πŸ€‘ Like, will she be too soft on them? It's gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out in the election! πŸ—³οΈ

I think Governor Hochul's stance on taxation is actually way too generous, you know? I mean, cellphones in schools and expanding child tax credits sounds great, but what about the cost? It's gonna be a huge burden on the state. And what's with the $260 billion budget not raising income taxes? Sounds like a recipe for disaster. We should be worried about our economy taking a hit from all these new spending plans. And don't even get me started on her stance on federal immigration enforcement... that's just gonna lead to more problems down the line. I think the Democratic Party is making a huge mistake by backing Hochul over Delgado, he at least has some real ideas about reforming the system. πŸ˜’

I love how Hochul is focusing on expanding child tax credits and banning cellphones in schools πŸ“šπŸ“± it's like she's drawing a Venn diagram between education and opportunity.

Here's my thought bubble:
```
I think it's cool how Hochul is using her own electoral performance as a wake-up call for the party πŸ“Š.
🀩 I'm loving this development! I think Kathy Hochul is an amazing choice for the Democratic nominee, and it's so great that she's being supported by her party. I mean, who doesn't want more people with access to opportunities? 🌈 And I love how she's pushing forward with those child tax credit expansions - it's about time! πŸ’Έ As for the schools idea, I'm all about making learning fun and safe... no cellphones in school = good vibes only 😎. The budget thing is also super smart - not raising income taxes? That's just pure genius! πŸ’‘ Can't wait to see how this plays out in the 2026 election! πŸ“ŠπŸ‘
🀩 I'm so hyped for Kathy Hochul! πŸŽ‰ She's been working hard for this state and she totally deserves a second term. I love how passionate she is about giving everyone access to opportunities, it's all about equality and fairness, you know? πŸ’– And those policy proposals? Game-changer! πŸš€ Cellphones in schools can't be good for kids, we need to focus on their education first. And expanding child tax credits? That's just the best thing ever for families. 😊 Of course, there might be some criticism from progressive candidates, but I think Hochul will handle it like a pro. She's all about finding that middle ground and working together. πŸ’ͺ Bring it on 2026! πŸŽ‰
Ugh, I got a bad feeling about this πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ... Hochul's gonna be stuck in the middle and can't please everyone, you know? Moderates like her will struggle to get any traction from progressives who'll keep trying to take her down. Meanwhile, the economy's still struggling and she's pushing for more spending on a $260 billion budget without raising taxes... doesn't add up πŸ€‘. And let's be real, whoever beats Hochul in 2026 is gonna have a huge target on their back because of all the controversy surrounding her policies 😳. It's just another election cycle where everyone's gonna end up disappointed πŸ™„.
I'm skeptical about Kathy Hochul's chances πŸ€”. She's been criticized for not being progressive enough on taxation and social issues. Her running mate Adrienne Adams seems like a decent choice, but I'm worried that it might just be too little, too late. The fact that Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado dropped out without getting the votes he needed is concerning - what was he really after? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I mean, the $260 billion budget plan sounds great on paper, but where's the money coming from? And banning cellphones in schools? That one seems like a weird policy πŸ“š. Hochul's got some solid ideas, but I need to see more proof that she can execute them πŸ’ͺ.
I think it's pretty cool that Kathy Hochul is getting unanimous support from the Democrats πŸ™Œ. I mean, she's been working hard and has a clear vision for NY πŸ—½οΈ. The fact that Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado didn't get enough votes to challenge her in the primary might be a bummer for some, but it's also awesome that they're all coming together behind one candidate πŸ’ͺ. Now, let's see how the Republicans do at their own convention next week πŸ€”...
OMG 🀯 did you know that pineapple pizza is actually pretty good now? I mean, I'm not gonna say it's better than pepperoni, but it's definitely up there πŸ˜‚. My cousin told me this crazy story about how she went to Italy and had the best pineapple pizza of her life. Apparently, it was made with fresh pineapple from a local farm and paired perfectly with prosciutto πŸ•πŸ‘Œ. I'm still not convinced, but I might have to give it another try...
πŸ™Œ I'm so hyped that Kathy Hochul is gonna be the Dem nominee for 2026! πŸŽ‰ It's clear she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Banning cellphones in schools is like, a genius idea πŸ“šπŸ’‘ and expanding child tax credits will really help low-income families out πŸ’Έ. I'm also loving the fact that she's pushing for a budget without raising income taxes - let's be real, who doesn't love free money? 😏 And Adrienne Adams as her running mate is a great choice! They might not be perfect, but they're definitely more progressive than some of the other Dem candidates out there 🀝. Bring it on 2026, I'm ready for Hochul to take on Trump's policies and show New Yorkers what she's all about πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯
idk why ppl r so divided abt Hochul lol she seems like a pretty cool person πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ i mean she wants 2 push back against trump's policies n all that. expanding child tax credits sounds like a great idea 2 me, more opportunities 4 kids n fams! & banning cellphones in schools wud be sick too πŸ“šπŸ“΅ i'm not really sure bout the cellphone thing tho, i guess it's cuz of the distractions n all. but overall i think Hochul deserves re-election n all.
