"We're super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!" said lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, exuding excitement about performing at home. "We're honored to welcome the MVPs who've shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world. Let's have fun! Let's get loud!"
According to NFL Senior Director Tim Tubito, Green Day is a perfect fit for the ceremony, as they celebrate 60 years of Super Bowl history with a hometown band that will honor NFL legends. "Celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history with Green Day as a hometown band, while honoring the NFL Legends who've helped define this sport is an incredibly powerful way to kick off Super Bowl LX," he said.
The ceremony, which will air live at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock and Universo, will feature a pregame entertainment lineup led by Charlie Puth, Brandi Carlile and Coco Jones. I mean, can you imagine? Green Day headlining the Super Bowl opening ceremony? It's like they're gonna rock out for America... or at least, the whole world watching 
. I'm loving the nostalgia vibes already - it reminds me of when my dad used to blast "Good Riddance" on his old Discman during Thanksgiving. Those were the days...

So I think it's awesome that Green Day is getting to perform at the Super Bowl opening ceremony! 
... I mean, don't get me wrong, "American Idiot" is still a classic, but it'd be interesting to hear them play something more recent. And can we talk about how great it is that the ceremony is celebrating 60 years of Super Bowl history? That's some serious milestone 
. But what I'm really looking forward to is the lineup for the pregame entertainment - Charlie Puth, Brandi Carlile, and Coco Jones are going to be so good!
