Local Woman's Cat Steps Up to Defend Her During Armed Robbery Attempt
A harrowing incident unfolded in the Gulfton neighborhood of Houston on November 6, when two armed men attempted to rob a resident at gunpoint. The would-be thieves' plan was foiled by an unexpected hero - the victim's cat, Kitty.
According to Monsi Pena, who witnessed the ordeal, one of the suspects posed as a perfume salesman before returning with another man clad in a hoodie and mask. As they entered her apartment, Pena barricaded herself in a bedroom, but the men kicked down the door. That's when Kitty sprang into action.
"He tried to defend me," Pena recounted. "He was like 'Bad boy,' and I saw he was going up on top of the man. And he was like, 'No, stop it, stop.' And I'm like, 'Uhh, Kitty, stop him.'"
While Kitty's bravery was admirable, the cat ultimately faced a feline fate worse than death - pistol-whipping at the hands of the suspects. Pena claimed that the men threatened to kill her and warned her not to call the police if she wanted to avoid further harm.
The suspects were later identified as Armando Torres and Mohamed Robinson. Police arrested both men, with Torres apprehended on Wednesday and Robinson charged with the robbery just days after the incident.
As for Kitty, Pena expressed gratitude that her beloved pet was rescued unharmed from the ordeal. "He tried to kill my cat," Pena said, still shaken by the experience.
The arrest of the suspects brings a measure of closure to Pena and highlights the importance of vigilant reporting in preventing such crimes.
