A White Nationalist Stormed a Detroit City, Threatened to Burn the Quran and Shoved Bacon in People's Faces.
Jake Lang, a Florida man with a history of violence, came to Dearborn on Tuesday with a gun belt, a Bible and a bag of bacon. He was accompanied by a small group of followers who shared his views.
Lang had a criminal record - he had been charged with repeatedly beating police officers with a baseball bat and riot shield during the January 6th attack. A federal judge found him to be willing to commit further acts of violence.
At Dearborn City Hall, Lang brought a banner reading "Americans Against Islamification" and large wooden crosses, which he said was meant to highlight what he believed to be an Islamic threat.
He mocked Arabic language. He told Muslims they were “violent, disgusting people,” waved bacon in their faces, and repeatedly used the n-word. He told one group they were “chimping out” and made monkey noises at teenagers.
The performance worked on many viewers, who appeared convinced they were watching an Islamic uprising.
Many of the responses were of the form: "Islam is robbing our country of unity."

. btw, dont even get me started on how easy it is 2 make ppl think islam r violent, when in reality its jus a lil misunderstood

This whole thing just shows how misinformation can be used to manipulate people's emotions and create a sense of fear and division. I mean, think about it - this guy comes in with bacon and crosses, waving them around like they're some kind of magic solution to all our problems. Meanwhile, he's literally using hate speech and racist language to try and provoke a reaction. And what does he get? People who are already upset and anxious just lapping up his message like it's truth. It's like they're willing to believe whatever makes them feel better about themselves, even if it means ignoring all the facts.
This guy's stunt was a perfect example of how misinformation and hate speech can be super effective at manipulating people's emotions online. I mean, who needs facts when you've got a white nationalist with a penchant for violence and a love of provocative stunts? 
And it's not like the FBI wasn't aware of his history - they'd literally put a restraining order on him after he tried to kill police officers! 
So what did we do? We gave him a platform. 
It's mind-boggling how much people are willing to believe things that are just plain wrong, especially when it comes to issues like this. The fact that many viewers were convinced they were watching an Islamic uprising is really disturbing - where was the critical thinking? 
he's literally tryin to incite violence & stir up hate against an entire community just 'cause of their faith? that's not freedom of speech, that's terrorism 
. and the part about wavin' bacon in ppl's faces, like, what even is that supposed to do?! 
tryna intimidate or scare people into thinkin' differently? it's sickening.
. I mean, who needs unity when we're all just going to perpetuate fear and ignorance? It's like, let's focus on real issues instead of making a show out of someone else's 'threat'
