How to use Magnifier on a MacBook to zoom in on faraway text

To Use a MacBook's Built-in Webcam to Zoom In: Apple recently released the "Magnifier" app for MacBooks, which lets users zoom into objects with their webcam. This might not be what you're looking for if you want to zoom into faraway text.

**How It Works**

When you open up Magnifier on your MacBook and select your desk as your camera source, Magnifier will display a live feed of the room behind you. To take advantage of this feature, simply position a webcam or iPhone facing away from you. Then switch back to your original camera via the "Camera" menu in the top bar.

To get closer to what's on screen:

* Switch between cameras using the "Camera" dropdown menu.
* Use the slider at the top of Magnifier to zoom in on yourself.

The webcam works with some third-party webcams, but Apple recommends using your MacBook's built-in camera or an iPhone. When you're ready to take a photo for later reference:

* Click the Camera button at the bottom left corner of the app.
* Review and adjust captured photos via the "Image" section in Magnifier's menu bar.

Magnifier isn't designed specifically for zooming into faraway text; if that's what you need, try using another tool like Text Expander or Zoom.

I don’t usually comment but I found this thing with my MacBook’s webcam to be kinda useful 🤔. I mean, it’s not exactly what I thought it was gonna do at first but it works pretty well for zooming in on stuff around me when I’m working from home. Like, if I need to read a document that's got some blurry text or something, I can just use the webcam to zoom in 📄. And it’s actually pretty convenient that you can switch between cameras and adjust the zoom level with a slider. Not sure about using an iPhone or another third-party camera though, maybe that changes how stable the feed is 🤷‍♂️. Anyway, if anyone else is looking for a simple way to get closer to what they’re seeing on their screen, this might be worth checking out 👍

omg i'm so hyped about this new magnifier app on my MacBook 🤩! it's so cool how i can use my built-in webcam to zoom in on stuff with just a camera switch 📸🔥, and the fact that i can take photos of things using my own cam is genius lol 📊😂

Ugh I'm so frustrated with Apple they just released this super useful app and nobody even knows about it 🤦‍♀️📸 I mean who comes up with this stuff? 'Hey let's create an app that lets you zoom in on the world around you using your webcam' Genius right? And of course there's always going to be people asking why it can't do everything they want, like zooming into text 🤷‍♂️ I feel for them though because now we all have to Google 'how to use magnifier on my mac' and I'm over here just trying to figure out how to get a decent selfie using this thing 😂

idk why apple would make a separate app just 4 this 🤔 but i guess its kinda cool that u can use ur webcam to zoom in on things around u...i mean who needs a mouse lol 👀 but seriously its def helpful if u dont wanna use the trackpad all day or if ur having trouble seeing stuff on screen

i'm still not convinced about this magnifier thing 🤔... i mean, who needs a separate app to use their built-in webcam? shouldn't it just be a one-click button already? 🙄 anyway, i guess it's kinda handy for parents who want to help our kids with reading or writing tasks. just wish there was an option to auto-rotate the feed so we don't have to keep switching between cameras 😒
