Instant observations: Joel Embiid shoots 4-for-21 in Sixers' loss to LeBron James, Luka Dončić and the Lakers

Joel Embiid struggled mightily, shooting just 4-for-21 from the field as the Philadelphia 76ers fell to a 112-108 loss against LeBron James and Luka Doncic. The normally reliable big man was off his game, displaying a lack of defense and rebounding prowess that exposed him as an immobile liability on the back line.

In contrast, Tyrese Maxey performed admirably, but even he couldn't carry the load alone for most of the game. The rest of the team's offense sputtered, with Joel Embiid taking a disproportionate amount of shots without seeing much success. Embiid's frustration was palpable as he checked out and then returned in the final minutes, only to miss several key opportunities.

The Sixers' struggles in the third quarter were a recurring theme, but this time they couldn't recover from the deficit despite a late burst of offense. Los Angeles found an offensive groove behind Luka Doncic's incredible playmaking, leaving the 76ers to wonder if they can sustain wins without Embiid at his best.

The team is caught between wanting to establish its own identity beyond relying on Embiid and knowing that he must be healthy enough to contribute to contend for a championship. As it stands now, Embiid's struggles raise serious questions about whether the Sixers can overcome their biggest liability in order to reach the top of the league.

On another note, Dominick Barlow had a standout performance as the 76ers' primary defender on LeBron James and even showed impressive one-on-one defense against Luka Doncic.

Ugh, Joel Embiid is such a mess right now 🤯🏀. Like, I get it, injuries happen, but when he's off his game, the whole team suffers. And it's not just about the offense, he was all over the place on D too 🙄. You can't rely on one guy to carry the load every single night, the rest of the team needs to step up. But at the same time, I feel for him, he's trying his best and it's frustrating to see him struggle so much.

And what's with the lack of cohesion from the offense? They're all over the place, taking weird shots and not moving the ball well enough 🤦‍♂️. It's like they need to work on their chemistry or something. Anyway, Dominick Barlow is a bright spot right now 🌟, nice to see him shine in big games. Maybe they can build around him instead of just relying on Embiid?

I feel for Joel Embiid, he's been through so much and still gives it his all 🤕. But you can't deny that his struggles are a concern, especially if the team is gonna rely on him to carry them to the top 🏆. I think they need to work on developing a more balanced offense, not just letting Joel do everything himself 😬. And let's give it up for Dominick Barlow though, he's a total rockstar 💪!

yo I'm tellin' ya, Embiid's struggles are makin' me wonder if he's still got it 🤔. He's been playin' like a shell of his former self lately and it's causin' the whole team to suffer. Like, what's goin' on with that dude? Is he gettin' hurt or is he just losin' confidence? On the other hand, Dominick Barlow is step up and showin' us what he's workin' with 🙌, but it ain't enough if Embiid can't be his usual self. The Sixers need him healthy and ready to go if they wanna make some noise in the playoffs.

embiid's game is so streaky 🤯 u need him to be on point or they're toast...but meanwhile, maxey & barlow are doing there thing 💪🏽 dominick was a total stud out there, holding down the fort against those two superstars 👊

🤔 so i just watched this game and wow joel embiid is having some serious issues 🚨 he's like our superstar but when he's not playing his A-game the whole team suffers 🏀 i get it, we need to find a way to win without him, but it's hard when you're used to relying on him so much...and those 3 guys from LA 👊 luka donnecic and lebron james are on fire 🔥 what can we do?

omg what's going on with Joel Embiid?? 🤯 he's normally so clutch but tonight was super weird... i think we need to see more from Tyrese Maxey, like, for real though, how's the team supposed to carry him? 🤔 dominick barlow was fire tho! 💥 he's got some serious skills and i'm loving his confidence on defense. but seriously, can't joel just get back to being his awesome self? 🙏 it's like, we know he's the big man but we need him to be unstoppable not struggling like that... 🤦‍♂️ this is a real concern for me, how are they gonna compete without their best player?

Man I'm worried about Joel Embiid's health rn 🤕 his game is way too important to the team's success and it's stressing me out thinking about what would happen if he can't get back on track ASAP 💔 at least Dominick Barlow stepped up as a primary defender for LeBron and Luka, that's giving me hope for now 😊 we need to see some balance from the rest of the team too tho 🤝 they're gonna have to find ways to carry him if he's not playing his A-game.

I'm thinkin' the 76ers need to find a way to make Embiid's greatness more sustainable 🤔🏀. He's a dominant force, but when he's off, they struggle big time 🌪️. They can't just rely on him all the time ⏰. It's like tryin' to draw a perfect circle – if one line's wonky, the whole thing falls apart 🎨.

Tyrese Maxey's doin' his thang, but he needs some more support from the rest of the team 🤝. And let's be real, Luka Doncic's playmaking skills are straight fire 🔥! The Sixers need to figure out how to keep up with that kind of talent 💪.

I'm lovin' what I see from Dominick Barlow, though 👍🏻. He's a beast on defense 🦖! They just need to find more guys like him who can step up when Embiid's strugglin'... or they'll be stuck in neutral 🚗.
