Julius Eastman: A Power Greater Than review – Davóne Tines celebrates the maverick musician

OMG I'm literally blown away by Julius Eastman's music!!! I mean, I've studied it in my music theory class 🎵 and it's crazy how innovative and ahead of its time he was 🤯. The way Davóne Tines performed "The Holy Presence of Joan d'Arc" gave me chills, especially when his voice just echoed through the auditorium like that 😲. I wish there were more cellos in that piece though, it felt a bit bare at times. But overall, I think Eastman's music is proof that art should be all about taking risks and pushing boundaries 🌈. The fact that he was part performance art, part sonic experimentation is so inspiring!

omg I'm so glad someone is finally giving Julius Eastman the spotlight he deserves 🙌🏻💫 I mean, Davóne Tines's performance was SO iconic, but can we talk about how the original arrangement left us wanting more? like, 10 cellos would've been LIFE.CHANGING 💥😍. And I'm loving that Eastman's music is all about pushing boundaries and experimenting with sound – it's like he knew the power of a good pas de deux 💃🕺. But what really got me was how Tines brought his own energy to each piece, making you feel like Joan d'Arc herself, fist raised in defiance 🤘💪

😊 I loved watching Davóne Tines bring Julius Eastman's innovative minimalist style to life on stage. The way he performed "The Holy Presence of Joan d'Arc" was truly mesmerizing, especially with his powerful voice commanding attention in the auditorium. 🤩 It's crazy to think that all ten cellos weren't able to join in on that one piece - it would've added so much depth and complexity to the music! 🎵

I'm also really fascinated by how Eastman's music defies categorization - it's like he was a true trailblazer when it came to fusion of different art forms. His ability to adapt his pieces to whatever forces were available at the time is truly inspiring. 💡 And that "Gay Guerilla" piece? Mind-blowing! The way the dancers moved with precision, while the music built in harmonic complexity... it was like a whole new world opened up on stage 🌎.

It's amazing how Eastman's legacy still resonates today, serving as a reminder of the importance of taking risks and pushing boundaries as artists. His innovative spirit is something we could all learn from, and I'm so grateful to have seen Davóne Tines bring his music to life 🙏

DAVONE TINES JUST KILLED IT ON STAGE!!! I MEAN, THE MAN'S VISION IS TRULY BREATHTAKING - ALL THOSE CELLS COMING TOGETHER LIKE A SYMPHONY OF STEEL 🎶😍. AND THAT VOICE OF HIS? GIVING CHILLS EVERYWHERE! BUT YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD'VE TAKEN IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL? ALL TEN CELLS PLAYING TOGETHER AT ONCE!!! 😅 still can't get that piece out of my head and the idea of EIN FESTE BURG just gives me CHILLS 🔥

I'm lovin' how Davóne Tines brought Julius Eastman's music to life 💫! The way he poured his heart into "The Holy Presence of Joan d'Arc" was truly breathtaking 🌟. I mean, who wouldn't be inspired by a piece that celebrates defiance and independence? It's like Eastman's music is speaking straight to our souls.

And can we talk about the performance art aspect for a sec? 🤔 The way he incorporated dance and choreography into "Gay Guerilla" was pure magic ✨. I love how Eastman's music is all about pushing boundaries and taking risks – it's like he's saying, "Hey, let's try this crazy thing and see where it takes us!" 🎉

For me, that's what makes his legacy so powerful. He showed us that art can be a force for change, a way to challenge the status quo and inspire us to be our best selves. Let's keep celebrating creative freedom and artistic risk-taking – it's what's going to take us to the next level 💪!
