Kenny Chesney, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban show off Nashville's biggest stages in new '20/20' special

Country Music's Legendary Stages Take Center Stage in ABC's '20/20' Special

The countdown to the 59th Annual CMA Awards has officially begun, and with it comes a nostalgic trip down memory lane for country music's biggest stars. In the highly anticipated "Center Stage: Countdown to the CMA Awards - Special Edition of 20/20," hosted by Luke Bryan, viewers are treated to an intimate look at Music City's most iconic stages.

Kenny Chesney takes us back to his early days on Lower Broadway, where he began playing gigs in a small downtown bar. The country music icon reminisces about the thrill of sitting on stools for hours, playing four-hour sets with nothing but a tip jar as payment – an experience that shaped him into the artist he is today.

Other music legends including Lauren Alaina, Gabby Barrett, Dan + Shay, Russell Dickerson, and Keith Urban also share their experiences at the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville's most storied stage. For Urban, it was a revelation when he arrived in Music City: "I thought I'd made it because I'm in Nashville... And then the Opry is this whole other level."

The special doesn't stop there – it delves into this year's CMA Award-nominated Musical Event of the Year collaborations, featuring buzzworthy pairings like Blake Shelton with Post Malone and Carrie Underwood with Cody Johnson. Jelly Roll, Megan Moroney, Ashley McBryde, and Dolly Parton also make appearances.

"Center Stage: Countdown to the CMA Awards - Special Edition of 20/20" airs on Tuesday, November 18, at 10:07-11:00 p.m. EST on ABC, with streaming options available on Disney+ and Hulu. Get ready for a behind-the-scenes look at country music's most legendary stages – it's the perfect preview to the highly anticipated CMA Awards ceremony, which takes place live from Nashville on Wednesday, November 19, also on ABC.

OMG 🤩🎸 I'm so down for this "Center Stage" special! It's like, my fave country artists are gonna take me on a wild ride through their history at those iconic stages 🚀💥 Kenny Chesney's story is giving me all the feels 😊. And can we talk about how epic it is to see Gabby Barrett and Dan + Shay performing together? They're literally making my favorite songs 🎶😍. I'm also so excited to see what this year's CMA Awards ceremony has in store 🤔🎉 The collaborations sound AMAZING 💯👏 Post Malone and Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood and Cody Johnson... Yaaas! Can't wait for it all to go down 🎊

omg u gotta see dis new '20/20' special about country music legends 🤠🎸! its like they're takin us back in time to when these icons were just startin out 🕰️ and they share all their crazy stories & experiences on stage 👏. i mean, kenny chesney talks about playin those tiny gigs for hours with nothin but a tip jar lol 💸. and lauren alaina's got some juicy stuff to spill too 🍊👀. its like the special is gettin us ready for the cma awards ceremony which is gonna be EPIC 🎉! gotta watch dis 👀

🤔 The CMA Awards is all about nostalgia right? I mean who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned country music throwback fest 🎸 But seriously tho, have you seen the lineups for these award shows lately? So many same old faces and artists that just don't get it... like, what's next Blake Shelton collab with Post Malone? 🤪 At least some of them are still holding down the torch for real country music. Anyone else feel like the industry is just phoning it in at this point? 🎶

omg u guys i just watched this super nostalgic abc special with luke bryan and it had me SO emotional!! 😭 kenny chesney's story about playing gigs in a small bar for hours was everything i needed to know more about him lol. and can we talk about how Keith Urban became an Opry member? 🤯 it was like, he arrived in nashville thinking he'd made it, but the Opry was this whole other level? 🔥 and also blake shelton with post malone as a collab? game changer 🎶. i'm so ready for the cma awards now, and i'm totally watching dolly parton's segment 🤩👑

.. I'm not buying all this nostalgia trip crap... I mean, come on, they're making a whole special about how hard Kenny Chesney used to work for tips? Like, who cares? And what's with the Grand Ole Opry drama? It sounds like a bunch of people reminiscing about the "old days" and forgetting that it's all just for entertainment. I'm sure Luke Bryan was paid a pretty penny for hosting this special... and probably got to keep all the glory for himself 🤑. And don't even get me started on the CMA Awards themselves – just another excuse for celebrities to wear fancy clothes and pretend they care about country music 🤣.

I'm not sure about this one... I mean, don't get me wrong, it's cool that they're highlighting the legends of country music and all, but it feels like we've been there done that with so many documentaries and specials already 🤔. And what's up with Luke Bryan hosting? He's always had a bit of a goofy streak, but I'm not sure if he's the best fit for this kind of show. Plus, I've heard some of these stories before - didn't we see a similar episode last year? 📺 It just feels like more of the same to me... 😐

You know I'm gonna take this one and run with it! 🤔 The fact that we're getting a special like this is a perfect example of how politicians are all about nostalgia and legacy. Remember when they used to make music instead of making promises? 😂 Just kidding, but seriously, the CMA Awards and the country music scene have been around for decades, just like our politicians' careers.

I'm loving that Kenny Chesney shared his story about playing gigs in small bars. That's what we need more of – people willing to put in the work and take risks, not just making promises and taking credit. And can we talk about how this special highlights the importance of preserving music venues like the Grand Ole Opry? It's like they're saying, "Hey, you know what would be great? If we could save these iconic stages for future generations to enjoy!" Sounds an awful lot like a politician's promise, doesn't it? 😏

I'm so stoked to see country music legends sharing their stories about performing on iconic stages like the Grand Ole Opry 🎸👏. It's crazy to think that Kenny Chesney used to play those small gigs on Lower Broadway with just a tip jar as payment - that's dedication! And I love how the special is also highlighting this year's CMA Award collaborations, it's gonna be lit 🔥. But what I'd really like to see is more spotlight on lesser-known artists and their experiences in Nashville... we need to support more up-and-coming talent too 💪. Can't wait to watch "Center Stage" though, it's gonna be a must-watch for any music lover 📺!

I'm so excited for this special! 🤩 I've been listening to country music for years and I love seeing behind-the-scenes stories like these. It's amazing how much passion and dedication it takes to make it in the industry - Kenny Chesney's story is so inspiring, playing those long sets for just a tip jar is crazy 💸! And can you imagine walking into the Grand Ole Opry for the first time? 🤯 I'm also loving the collaborations mentioned, Blake Shelton with Post Malone sounds like an epic combo 🎶. Can't wait to tune in and get ready for the CMA Awards on Nov 19 👏

I'm so down for this special! I love how they're highlighting the early days of these music legends and how their experiences at iconic stages like the Grand Ole Opry shaped them into the artists we know today 🎸👏. It's amazing to see how country music has come a long way, but still keeps that down-to-earth, rootsy vibe going on 💚. I'm also super excited to see the collaborations and pairings they're featuring this year - Blake Shelton with Post Malone? Carrie Underwood with Cody Johnson? That sounds like so much fun! 🎉 Can't wait to tune in on November 18th 📺
