Lindsey Vonn’s comeback bid ends in Olympic crash

Lindsey Vonn's Olympic Downhill Debacle Ends in Heartbreaking Crash

In a shocking turn of events, American skiing legend Lindsey Vonn brought her highly-anticipated Olympic comeback to an abrupt and devastating end when she crashed early in the women's downhill race at the 2026 Winter Games in Milan-Cortina. The 41-year-old Vonn was already competing under immense physical strain, having suffered a torn ACL just days earlier in a World Cup event.

Despite her injury, Vonn had bravely chosen to continue racing at the Olympics while wearing a knee brace, citing her determination to compete on her own terms after undergoing a partial knee replacement in 2024. However, it was clear that she was running out of time and luck, as she lost control just 13 seconds into the race and came crashing down.

The incident sent shockwaves through the Alpine skiing community, with officials hailing Vonn's bravery while acknowledging the unfortunate nature of injuries in the sport. "Injuries are unfortunately part of the sport," one official noted, in a poignant reminder that even the most resilient athletes can fall victim to chance and circumstance.

Vonn's teammate Breezy Johnson went on to claim Team USA's first gold medal of the Games, a testament to her own strength and resilience. The incident also sparked an outpouring of support for Vonn from fans and fellow athletes alike, who praised her unwavering determination and perseverance in the face of adversity.

While the full extent of Vonn's injuries remains unclear, one thing is certain: this sudden crash marks a devastating setback in what had already been a remarkable comeback effort. As she shifts focus to recovery, questions remain about what the future holds for Vonn, who has been one of the most decorated athletes in Alpine skiing history.

aww man 😔 hope lindsey vonn recovers soon from that nasty crash 🤕 seems like she was determined to give it her all and still managed to inspire everyone with her courage 💪 even though it ended on a tough note, we're all sending our positive vibes in her direction 🌞 can't wait to see what the future holds for her 🎯

Ugh, that's so sad 🤕! I remember watching Lindsey Vonn compete when she was at her prime back in 2007-2010... what a legend on the slopes 🏂! She always gave it her all and inspired so many young skiers to take up the sport. It's just heartbreaking to see her career come to an end like this, especially after working so hard to return from that knee injury.

I mean, can you imagine going out there with a torn ACL and still managing to finish the race? That's what I call dedication 💪! And to have it all snatched away in an instant... bummer. Guess that's just part of the risks we take when we love something so much 🤔.

It's amazing how much respect she gets from everyone, including her teammate Breezy Johnson, who ended up winning the gold medal. That's what happens when you're a true champion 🏅! Anyway, Vonn will be missed on the slopes for sure...

😞 Ugh, can't believe what just happened... I mean, I knew it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. She's 41 and already had an injury that needed surgery, so when does she get to have a clean win? 💔 And now she's gotta deal with the aftermath of this crash. The ACL thing is pretty sketchy too... I mean, how much wear and tear can her knee handle before it just decides to give up on her? 🤕 Not looking good for Lindsey Vonn right now. Guess all that determination will have to wait until next year... 😒

Ugh, I'm not surprised lol 🤦‍♀️. She knew the risks coming back from injury so soon after surgery...like, she's 41, her body can't take it anymore 😒. And that knee brace was a bad idea, just a Band-Aid solution to cover up her underlying issues 💉. I mean, anyone else would have sat out and waited for their knee to fully heal 🤕. But nope, Lindsey Vonn has to go and put on a show, like she's still the queen of downhill skiing 🎭. And now what? She'll just be sitting out for who-knows-how-long, watching her teammates take home medals while she's stuck in rehab...just great 😔

awww 🤕🏔️ omg lindsey vonn 😱 i cant even right now!!😭 she was so brave to try and make it happen with that knee injury and everything... i mean, i know she's an olympic legend and all but still her safety should've been the priority 🙅‍♀️🏥

i love how her teammate breezy johnson came through and got that gold medal tho 💪🌟 and all the good vibes for lindsey from fans and other athletes is so beautiful ❤️ i hope she recovers fast and gets back on the slopes soon 🎿💨

😔🏂 it's amazing how our bodies can deceive us into thinking we're more resilient than we actually are. Lindsey Vonn was literally running on fumes, and yet she chose to push through despite her injury 🤕. It's a tough lesson to learn, but sometimes you gotta know when to hold 'em and fold 'em – in this case, it seems like Vonn took one last swing at the mountain and it didn't quite pay off 😔.

It's also really admirable how Vonn handled the situation, though. She chose to do what was best for her health despite putting her Olympic aspirations on the line 🙏. It takes a lot of courage to admit defeat and prioritize your well-being, especially when you've dedicated so much of yourself to a sport. We can all learn from that 💪

aww man 😔 Lindsey Vonn is such an inspiration to us all 🙌 I mean, who else would even think of competing with a torn ACL and knee brace? 💉🏂 She's always been a true pioneer, paving her own way and never backing down from a challenge. And to see her teammate Breezy Johnson shine in the Olympics is just amazing 💫! It's clear that Lindsey will be back stronger than ever, but for now, let's all send our love and get well vibes her way 🤗💕

man.. Lindsey Vonn's Olympic dreams got smashed 🤕... I mean, we all know injuries happen in sports but still, it's super sad 💔. She gave it her all and went for gold 💥, but sometimes those things just don't go as planned 😞. I'm all for athletes pushing themselves to the limit, but you gotta respect the limits of your body too 🤕. And that knee brace thing... I get it, she wanted to compete on her own terms, but maybe it was time to sit this one out 😩. She's got so many medals under her belt already, does she really need to risk everything for one more? 🤔 Anyway, gotta feel bad for the girl, hope she recovers well and gets back on the slopes soon! 💨

aww man :( Lindsey Vonn's Olympic dream was so close and yet... her bravery & determination are still totally admirable tho 🙏💪 she's already shown so much heart & resilience in dealing with her knee issues, and to still wanna push through & compete is just inspiring 😊 what a legend! 💥 can't wait to see how her recovery goes and if she'll be back on the slopes again soon ❤️

😔 Oh man, that's so sad! Lindsey Vonn is like a legend on the slopes and I'm totally bummed that her comeback ended like that 🤕. I mean, she was pushing it hard after that ACL injury and partial knee replacement, but you can't blame her for wanting to compete at all 🙅‍♀️. It's just one of those things where injuries happen, even to the toughest athletes.

I love how her teammate Breezy Johnson stepped up and took that gold medal though 💪! That's what it's all about, supporting each other on the team. And I'm sure Lindsey Vonn is gonna be back stronger than ever 💯... we just have to wait for now 😐.

I'm so sorry to hear that Lindsey Vonn got hurt again 🤕😔 She's been through so much already and it's heartbreaking that she had to go down like this. I mean, 13 seconds into the race is just crazy talk! You can't even process what happened when you're watching.

It's amazing how inspiring her bravery is though 💪🏼. I love that she didn't let her injury hold her back and was determined to compete on her own terms. And wow, Breezy Johnson must be so proud of herself for taking the gold medal 💥!

As for Lindsey Vonn, we all wish her a speedy recovery 🤞 and hope she can come back even stronger than before. She's an icon in our sport and I'll be rooting for her no matter what 😊.

I'm so bummed to hear about Lindsey Vonn's heartbreaking crash 🤕💔. I mean, she's already been dealing with an injury and had to come back from a partial knee replacement... it's just not fair 😞. I gotta respect her for wanting to compete on her own terms though - that takes a ton of guts 💪.

I'm thinking about how much we saw her do for the sport over the years, and now this 🤯. It's gonna be tough to see her take time off from competing, but she'll come back stronger, I hope 🤞. I mean, Breezy Johnson did an amazing job out there, but it's not the same without Vonn on the podium 💛.

I'm sure we'll all be rooting for her as she recovers - she's an inspiration to so many people, and we want to see her back doing what she loves 🙏.

omg 🤕 u gotta feel so bad 4 lindsey vonn 😭 she was so close 2 bringin home a medal and now she's facin a whole new set of problems 😔 ACL just days before and still she decides 2 push thru and wear a knee brace... that takes a lot of courage but also a lot of heartbreak 💔 i mean, we all know she's one of the best skiers eva, but sometimes even the strongest athletes can't outrun fate 🤦‍♀️ now she gets 2 deal w/ the aftermath and figure out what's next... hope she recovers well and gets back on the slopes soon 💪

This is just so heartbreaking 🤕. Lindsey Vonn's determination and courage are truly inspiring, but sometimes even the toughest and strongest among us can fall victim to fate's cruel hand. I do feel a bit bad that she wore a knee brace and decided to push through despite her injury - I get it, she was really determined to compete on her own terms, but maybe it would've been wiser to prioritize caution at this stage. Anyway, Breezy Johnson's win is definitely a silver lining in an otherwise tough day for Vonn... 🤞
