Loop review – this warped tale of sexual fantasies could be wilder

"Tanya-Loretta Dee's debut monologue 'Loop' delves into the unsettling world of infatuation and limerence, a term that aptly describes the dark undertones of this warped tale. The story revolves around Bex, a young woman with an insatiable appetite for sex, whose fantasies take center stage until her relationship fractures and warps.

The production is promising, with Dee developing a strong rapport with the audience through witty asides and a good attempt at bringing other characters to life. However, James, her middle-class counterpart, falls flat as a caricature of a brute, draining the production of its intensity. The chemistry between Dee and James is lost when his character never quite adds up.

Dee's performance also feels somewhat controlled, never fully surrendering to the chaos that lies beneath the script. The set design by Mydd Pharo creates an eerie mood, but it's left unfulfilled due to a lack of depth in the characters. Director Sophie Ellerby could have pushed the production further into the darkness, but unfortunately, it remains at a slight distance.

Despite its flaws, 'Loop' is still a thought-provoking exploration of sexual desire and the blurred lines between fantasy and reality. Dee's performance shows promise, even if she never quite lets go of her leash. As the production nears its end on November 29th at Theatre503 in London, audiences may find themselves wondering what could have been if the darkness had been fully unleashed."

I'm really disappointed with this play, 'Loop'. The director, Sophie Ellerby, didn't bring out the full potential of Tanya-Loretta Dee's performance 🤔. I mean, she's got some great lines and all, but sometimes it feels like she's just going through the motions, you know? And don't even get me started on James - he's so one-dimensional, I couldn't even care about what happens to him 😴. The set design was actually really cool, though - that eerie mood they were going for is definitely pulled off 🎃. But overall, it just feels like a half-baked exploration of these complex themes 💡. Maybe next time, the director will be able to tap into the true depths of this play... fingers crossed! 👍

🤔 I think Tanya-Loretta Dee's 'Loop' is a super interesting take on infatuation and limerence, it's like she's taking these dark emotions and turning them into this twisted tale that's both unsettling and kinda relatable. The production is pretty strong with the set design by Mydd Pharo 🎨, but I feel like James falls flat because his character doesn't really add any depth to the story. The chemistry between Dee and her co-stars is there, but sometimes it feels like they're missing that extra oomph. Overall, though, I think 'Loop' is a great exploration of sexual desire and fantasy vs reality 💡, even if it's not perfect – I'm still kinda curious about what could've been if the director had pushed it more!

idk why they made james so one-dimensional 🤔 his character just feels like a prop to advance the story rather than having depth or complexity. and tbh, dee's performance is kinda interesting but i feel like she's holding back a bit too much 😬 the set design looks fire though 🎨 my only question is what would've happened if they'd pushed the production further into that dark world? it feels like it's missing something 💡

I gotta say, I think the reviewer was a bit harsh on Sophie Ellerby's direction 🤔. She did try to bring some depth to the production, but maybe just didn't quite get there. And omg, James' character is literally a one-dimensional representation of a "brute" 💁‍♀️ - it's not that hard to develop complex characters in a play! Tanya-Loretta Dee did shine as Bex though, her chemistry with the audience was electric 🔥... maybe if she had let go just a tad more, it would've been even better? Either way, I'm still excited for audiences to see 'Loop' on November 29th 🎭

I gotta say, I loved Tanya-Loretta Dee's 'Loop' and how it explored that twisted world of infatuation 🤯. The set design was super eerie too 😱, but I agree with you that it didn't quite reach its full potential due to the characters lacking depth. I mean, James just felt like a cardboard cutout, you know? 📦 But Dee's performance was still really compelling, even if she did hold back a bit at times 🤔. Still, I think she showed some amazing range and vulnerability, which is what makes this story so hauntingly beautiful 💔. Maybe Sophie Ellerby could've pushed the production to be more intense, but overall, it's still worth checking out before Nov 29th ⏰!

LOL what a mess 🤯! Tanya-Loretta Dee is like 2 mins into this and she's already playing it safe? I need more of that intensity, girl 💁‍♀️. James better come correct or I'm outta here 🚫, but I do love the set design tho 👻... dark vibes all day erryday ⚫️. Sophie Ellerby needs to take some notes, tho 💭... 29th Nov at Theatre503, btw? better have my ticket ready 💳

think dee did alright but still feel like she played it safe a bit too much...lmao think the director should've pushed her more to get into that darker place 😏 maybe next time tho 🤷‍♂️ anyhoo, this production is def worth checkin out if u r interested in all that psychological thrill stuff 💀

Dee's got some serious talent but for me, it feels like she's holding back a bit. This 'Loop' thing is kinda fascinating but I wish she could've delved deeper into that dark place 😏. The set design is on point tho, it's super creepy and immersive. What really bugged me was James, he just felt like a prop instead of an actual character 🤔. And yeah, Sophie Ellerby shoulda pushed harder to make the production darker and edgier. Still, Dee's got that spark and I'm curious to see what she does next 💡.
