Mammoth series two review – it is a subversive thrill to laugh at these offensive jokes

Mike Bubbins' Mammoth has found its footing as a subversive sitcom about masculinity, nostalgia, and the absurdities of modern Britain. The show's 53-year-old star plays Tony Mammoth, a PE teacher who was unearthed nearly half a century after being buried in an avalanche. With his dated values and borderline offensive views, Mammoth is a relic of a bygone era - but one that still manages to elicit laughter.

Bubbins' impeccable deadpan delivery brings the show's humor, which flows both ways: when Mammoth looks at modern society with disdain, it can be hard not to laugh. But there's also a genuine affection for his protagonist, who embodies unshakeable confidence and breathtaking selfishness. As Mammoth struggles to comprehend present-day tastes, we're on his side, enjoying the nostalgia and comfort of seeing him indulge in old habits like sipping Cinzano or watching Minder.

This second series sees Mammoth bond with Michael (Al Roberts), a younger man who fetishizes the 1970s, but some gulf remains unbridgeable - like when Michael requests alcohol-free beer. Bubbins' creation is fueled by his heartfelt obsession with the decade, and it shows in every aspect of the show.

However, while Mammoth has its moments, other characters often fall short. Joel Davison's Theo is a low-energy wallflower who contrasts starkly with his grandfather, but others, like Mel (Sian Gibson), struggle to make an impact due to their accents. Sometimes, this break in tone disrupts the show's spell.

By the end of this second series, Mammoth has started to wear thin - not necessarily because it needs improvement, but perhaps because we've had a taste of its unique brand of humor. The question remains: can Tony Mammoth evolve into someone who prioritizes others and takes safety seriously? If so, would that be any less fun?

I'm OBSESSED with Mike Bubbins' new show Mammoth!!! 🤣 I love how he brings this lovable, outdated character to life 😂. The humor is literally killing me, especially when Tony looks at modern society like it's from outer space 🚀! And can we talk about the nostalgia? I'm all in for more of that 1970s vibes 💃🕺. My only gripe is with some of the character development - Theo feels a bit one-dimensional, and Mel's accent doesn't quite mesh 😐. BUT, I think Tony Mammoth has so much potential for growth 🤔. Like, can we see him learn to be more considerate? It'd still be hilarious, but also kind of nice 💖.

Love how Mike Bubbins is pushing boundaries with this show 🤣. But gotta say, I'm a bit miffed about the accents in some of the characters... it's like they forgot to research those parts 😒. And I get what you mean about Tony Mammoth wearing thin - sometimes he comes off as more annoying than hilarious 👎. Still, the show's humor is infectious and nostalgic vibes are on point 📺. Can't wait to see how this guy evolves (or not) in future seasons 🤔!

I'm not sure how many more episodes I can stomach of this show... I mean, it's funny at first, but after a while it just feels like Mike Bubbins is milking the nostalgia for all it's worth 🤯. And don't even get me started on the accents - it's like they're intentionally trying to be cringeworthy 😒. The show's charm wears off when you realize that Tony Mammoth's outdated views are more of a caricature than a commentary on our times. I'm curious to see if the creators can tackle some real issues in future seasons, but for now, it feels like just another example of "ironic" humor that's really just lazy 🤔.

OMG, I'm literally DYING over this show!!! 😂🤣 Mike Bubbins is like a genius or something, his deadpan delivery is insane! I love how the show pokes fun at Mammoth's outdated views but still makes you root for him. And can we talk about Al Roberts' character? 🤩👀 I'm shipping them so hard! The 1970s vibes are on point and it's clear Bubbins is a huge fanboy (same here, lol) 💥 But yeah, some of the supporting characters feel a bit meh... like Mel's accent kinda falls flat 😐 still, can't wait for more Tony Mammoth adventures 🎉👍

🤔 I love how Mike Bubbins' character has become this lovable, yet cringeworthy, relic of the past. His delivery is on point, and it's hilarious to see him struggle with modern society 😂. However, I think some characters feel a bit one-dimensional, like Mel's accent can be a bit too much at times 🤯. And while the show has its moments, I'm curious to see if Tony Mammoth will learn to grow and adapt - would that even make it less entertaining? 🤷‍♂️

I gotta say, I'm still chucklin' about this show 🤣! Mike Bubbins is a genius for playin' Tony Mammoth, he's just so... Mammoth 😂. But you're right, some characters feel like they're from a different show altogether 🙅‍♂️. I mean, I'm all for nostalgic humor and it's great that the show doesn't shy away from it 🍺. It's like bein' back in the 70s again, with a laugh and a pint 🎉. But, I wonder if Mammoth's gotta grow up a bit? Like, can he learn to put others before himself for once? 🤔 That'd be a whole different kind of funny 😂. Still lovin' it though! 👍

I dunno about this show... I mean, Mike Bubbins' delivery is pretty good but some parts feel like he's relying too much on the 70s vibes 🤣. The way Mammoth navigates modern society is hilarious at first, but sometimes it feels like we're just watching him get all upset because things aren't done his way 😂.

I also feel like the show could be more nuanced - I mean, Tony's not a bad guy or anything, he's just... old-fashioned 🤔. The only thing that would make me keep watching is if Mammoth actually started to change and had some heart 🤞. Otherwise, it feels like we're just stuck in a time loop 😴.

What do you guys think? Would you watch more of Tony's antics or are you good after two series 👀

I dunno about this show... 😐 I mean, it's funny at first, especially with Mike Bubbins' dry delivery 🤣. But sometimes the accents of the other characters can feel like they're pulling me outta the joke. Like, I get that we need representation, but if it's just gonna be a bunch of one-liners because someone can't talk proper? 🙅‍♂️ Still, the nostalgia thing is cool, and I love how Mammoth struggles to keep up with modern times 😂. Maybe they can work on developing some more characters? 👍

I think the show is pretty funny, especially with Mike Bubbins' delivery - 🤣 he's got this deadpan thing down pat! But at times, I feel like some characters are a bit one-dimensional. Like, Mel's accent does kinda clash with the rest of the show. And I'm not sure if it's on purpose or what, but sometimes it feels like they're relying too much on nostalgic humor - you know, just 'cause it's from the 70s and 80s doesn't automatically make it good comedy 😅. Still, I'd watch another season just to see where Tony Mammoth ends up! 📺

This show is like my aunties gossiping about old times, I love it 🤣! Bubbins' performance is on point, he's like the master of deadpan humor 😂. The 70s vibes are definitely a highlight, who wouldn't want to sip Cinzano and watch Minder all day? 🍸📺 But yeah, some characters feel a bit one-dimensional, especially with that accent thing going on... it's like they're trying too hard to fit in 🤔. Still, I'm down for more of Mammoth's brand of humor, but maybe next season he can work on being less of a, you know, total tool 😂.

I dunno if I'd say this show is subversive or not 🤷‍♂️... at least the dude's still got some funny moments 😂. But for real though, how often do you see someone like Tony Mammoth just owning it and being unapologetically himself? That kinda energy's infectious, I guess 👌. What really gets me is how much love Mike Bubbins pours into every aspect of the show – it's not hard to tell he's a total 70s fanatic 📚. Would be interesting to see Mammoth evolve in some way, but would that lose its humor? probably not 😂... still trying to figure it out myself 💭

omg i loved the first series of mammoth and im hyped for this new season!!! 🤣 but yeah some of the supporting characters can be a bit meh, idk how they'd fill the space on screen but hopefully they get a boost in the next series. its weird cuz mammoth himself is so infuriating at times lol his values are straight outta 70s & im surprised we still laugh @ him but its also kinda refreshing to see him just be himself (even if thats super outdated) 🤪 cant wait to see how he interacts w/ michael tho, sounds like they're gonna have some good banter! 👍

idk about this show lol 😂 i mean, Bubbins is hilarious as the lovable but outdated Mammoth, but some of the character development feels hazy. like, yeah, Tony's a relic of his time, but can we expect him to change his ways by the end of season 2? 🤔 it's all good for a few laughs, but if they're gonna keep pushing Mammoth as this caricature of masculinity, shouldn't they be more consistent with his growth (or lack thereof)? 📺 also, those accents in Mel's character can be distracting, feels like an afterthought 😐

😂👏 this show is a total riot! Mike Bubbins is 💯 as the clueless but lovable Tony Mammoth. I love how he just owns his dated values and makes you laugh 🤣 at them. The nostalgia vibes are on point 🎉, especially when he's sipping Cinzano or watching old Minder reruns 😂. But yeah, some characters can feel a bit one-dimensional 🤷‍♂️ and the accents might be a bit of an issue 🙈. Still, Mammoth is a winner in my book 💪! Can't wait to see what he gets up to next 🤔

🤔 This show is like that one aunt at the family reunion - you're not always sure if she's gonna say something cringeworthy or hilarious! Bubbins' deadpan skills are on point, but sometimes it feels like he's holding back just a bit too much. Like, what's up with Michael requesting alcohol-free beer? 🍺😂 The accent thing is an interesting observation - I feel like the show could benefit from more nuanced character development. Still, that Mammoth character has some serious charm to him. Can't wait to see if he'll ever learn to, you know, care about others 😅

Wow 🤯, I love how Mike Bubbins brings this character to life with his deadpan delivery 🎭! Interesting 😏, the show's humor is really funny, but it also makes you feel kinda bad for Tony Mammoth at the same time 👀. Can't wait to see if he evolves in future seasons 📺!

idk what's up with those accents 🤷‍♂️ like they're trying to make the characters sound british but it just comes off as fake lol also i was watching this old video of a kid riding a unicycle down a busy street in london and it was SO COOL 💥 has anyone else seen that?

i gotta say, i'm loving the vibes of Mike Bubbins' new show "Mammoth" 🤣! it's like we're transported back to the 70s with Tony Mammoth's antics. but what really resonates with me is how we can laugh at his outdated views while still feeling a little bad for him 😂. i think what makes the show work is that we don't take ourselves too seriously, and Bubbins' deadpan delivery just adds to the hilarity 💀. that being said, it's also interesting to see Mammoth struggle with modern society – would it be funnier if he just learned to adapt? 🤔

I'm not sure about this show... I mean, it's got some great moments where Bubbins' deadpan is on point 🤣. But the older characters can feel like they're just phoning it in, you know? The accents thing always grinds my gears - I get that it's supposed to be a nostalgic thing, but if I'm watching a show set in modern Britain, I want to hear British accents, not some caricatured version 🙄. And the part where Tony Mammoth gets drunk and slurs his words just because he's trying to connect with this young bloke... isn't that kinda problematic? Like, I get it, satire is hard, but does it need to be so shallow?
