Bronx Man Surrenders After Allegedly Stabbing Taxi Driver Repeatedly, Facing Multiple Charges
A 56-year-old Bronx resident has turned himself in to the NYPD, facing multiple charges after allegedly stabbing a taxi driver repeatedly in an incident that left the victim hospitalized for over two weeks. Darin Dominick surrendered to authorities on Wednesday morning at the 43rd Precinct.
According to police, Dominick attacked taxi driver Osei Kusi, who was driving through the Bronx when he was stabbed with a baseball bat multiple times. Kusi had pleaded with Dominick to stop, but the suspect continued his assault before fleeing the scene. The incident occurred on November 26.
Kusi remains in the hospital, receiving treatment for multiple bleeding puncture wounds sustained during the attack. His family and colleagues from the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers have been visiting him daily since the incident, showing their support during this difficult time.
In a statement, Fernando Mateo, chairman of the taxi federation, said that while Dominick's surrender is a positive development, the organization will continue to push for full accountability in such cases. "The city can breathe a little easier today, but we will continue to stay on top of cases like this," he added.
Prosecutors have charged Dominick with attempted murder, as well as assault, harassment, and weapons offenses. However, his attorney claims that Dominick denies wrongdoing.
The taxi federation secured compensation for Kusi through a workers' benefit fund, which the organization said helped bring the investigation to a "turning point" before Dominick's surrender. With police involvement, the case has been reinvigorated, bringing hope for justice for Kusi and his family.
