Man arrested for stabbing at Manhattan subway station, police say

New York City Subway Attack Suspect Arrested in Manhattan

A 28-year-old man has been taken into custody by the NYPD over a violent stabbing that took place at a Manhattan subway station last week. Dariel Castillo, who resides in NYCHA's Jefferson Houses in East Harlem, was arrested on Wednesday morning around 8:30 am and charged with assault.

According to police, an altercation between Castillo and a 51-year-old stranger occurred in the mezzanine area of the Broadway-Lafayette station in SoHo. The argument escalated into physical violence, resulting in multiple stab wounds to the victim's back.

Miraculously, the victim survived the attack and was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. Castillo, however, suffered serious injuries during the altercation with first responders, who transported him to the hospital for treatment.

The incident has raised concerns about rising transit crime in New York City. According to NYPD data, citywide transit crimes have increased by approximately 10% this year compared to the same period last year. Grand larcenies and felony assaults are among the most common types of incidents being reported.

In a related case, authorities on Tuesday were investigating another stabbing incident that occurred on a J train in the same precinct as the SoHo attack. A teenager allegedly stabbed a 15-year-old boy in the buttocks at the Canal Street station in Chinatown.

The NYPD is urging anyone with information about these incidents to come forward. As this story continues to develop, updates will be provided based on preliminary information from police.

man, it's getting crazy down there in the subways ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ˜ฌ. like, i remember when you could walk alone at night without worrying about being stabbed or robbed... now it's like a different world. 10% increase in transit crimes is not even that surprising tho, ppl have been saying this for years that the city's losing its charm and safety. but still, stabbing someone and leaving them with multiple wounds is just insane ๐Ÿคฏ what's going on with our society? why can't we resolve our issues peacefully anymore?

๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿšจ just thinking about that subway attack makes me wanna stay home lol. seriously though, 10% increase in transit crimes is crazy! we need more support for our heroes on the frontlines ๐Ÿ’•, and it's super sad that people have to go through this ๐Ÿค•. how many security cameras do we really have up there? ๐Ÿ“บ NYPD needs all the help they can get ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐Ÿค• This just makes me so sad for that poor guy who got stabbed ๐Ÿšจ I mean, what's going on in our city that people are getting more and more aggressive? The stats are already up 10% this year... it's like we're expecting this kind of thing to happen now. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ What can we do to stop this? We need some real solutions from our authorities, not just more arrests ๐Ÿš”

omg this is so sad ๐Ÿค• what's wrong with people nowadays?! like, can't we all just get along & have a peaceful commute? 28 yrs old stabbing someone in the subway, that's crazy! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ anyway, glad the victim survived tho ๐Ÿ™, hope they make a full recovery ๐Ÿ’ช. and btw, has anyone else noticed how many stabbing incidents are happening lately? ๐Ÿค” NYPD needs to step up their game & keep our city safe ๐Ÿ’•. and poor first responders, they got hurt trying 2 help someone in need ๐Ÿ˜Š

dude its crazy that another stabbing happened in the subway lol like what s going on with ny city rn i got a friend who takes the subway every day and hes always worried about stuff like this but at least thats not how it ended for the guy who got stabbed ๐Ÿคž imo nyc needs more security cameras or something idk maybe that would help prevent these kinds of incidents btw did u hear about the stabbing on the J train too?

Ugh, another stabbing incident in NYC ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ฌ... I'm not sure what's going on with our city's transit system right now... 10% increase in crime is a big deal ๐Ÿ“ˆ... I get that people are getting desperate and stuff, but can't we find better solutions to address the issue? ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’ก... I mean, I'm all for holding the perpetrator accountable, but what about addressing the root cause of this problem? Is it just gonna be more arrests and punishment, or is there some actual effort being made to make our transit system safer and more secure? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘€... And another thing, how do we even know if we're seeing a real increase in crime when most people are too scared to report incidents? ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’ญ

Ugh I'm so tired of this NYC subway stuff ๐Ÿคฏ. Like seriously how many times have we gotta hear about some random dude stabbing someone? And now they're saying transit crimes are up by 10%? That's wild fam... ๐Ÿ˜ฒ. I feel bad for the victim, though - I mean multiple stab wounds aren't easy to recover from. But what really gets me is that this guy Dariel Castillo was just messing around and got himself seriously hurt by the police ๐Ÿš‘. Like, can't we all just get along? And another stabbing incident on a J train? That's just crazy talk ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. We need to do better, NYC... our subways are supposed to be safe spaces! ๐Ÿ’”

man... can't believe what's happening on our subways ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿ˜ฑ 10% increase in transit crimes already? that's crazy! and to think these are just two incidents out of who knows how many... need for more security, i know, but like, what's being done to prevent this stuff from happening in the first place? and now another incident is popping up just a few days later ๐Ÿคฏ it's like we're seeing a pattern here. anyway, glad the victim survived the stabbing, but still so worrisome for people commuting on the trains every day...
