Man Arrested In Connection To Midtown Shooting Of NFL Player Kris Boyd
A 29-year-old man turned himself in to authorities in Buffalo, New York, on Monday morning in connection with the shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd outside a Manhattan restaurant last month. The suspect was taken into custody by law enforcement officials and appeared before them with his attorney.
Boyd, who is still recovering from injuries sustained during the incident, was shot in the stomach after a group of men began taunting him and two other Jets players, wide receiver Irvin Charles and linebacker Jamien Sherwood, outside an Asian fusion restaurant near West 38th Street and Seventh Avenue. The shooter fired two shots from a 9mm handgun, striking Boyd in his pulmonary artery.
Police say the incident occurred after the group spent time inside the restaurant, during which the men made derogatory comments about their clothing. When they exited the restaurant, the taunts continued, leading to a physical altercation that escalated into gunfire.
An investigation revealed two vehicles of interest that sped away from the scene, with witnesses identifying them as suspects who fled in a white BMW. Police used facial recognition and other tools to track down potential witnesses, including identifying individuals through social media accounts.
In addition to the suspect, authorities also recovered a $185,000 watch at the crime scene, which remains unclaimed. Boyd was initially taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical but stable condition and later returned for further treatment due to ongoing health concerns.
The Jets players claim they were defending themselves during the altercation, which occurred on November 16 outside Sei Less restaurant.
