Mary Earps extract: 'I felt sick and anxious. Then came the words I'd waited 12 months to hear'

Mary Earps, the former England goalkeeper, has come to terms with her decision to retire from international football and has written an autobiography about her career. In it, she reveals that her retirement was not due to a lack of confidence or ability, but rather because she had been given the confidence by manager Sarina Wiegman to fulfill her potential.

Earps recounts how she initially agreed to continue playing for England in 2023, despite feeling uncertain about her decision. However, after a conversation with Sarina Wiegman, Earps realized that she had been in the same situation multiple times and if she approached it in the same way, she would deliver the same lessons.

The autobiography is titled "Mary Earps: All In" and was published by Bonnier Books. It has received positive reviews, including an exclusive interview with Guardian journalist Donald McRae.

πŸ€” Mary Earps' story is really inspiring, you know? I mean, she's not just a football legend, but also someone who's super honest about her thoughts and feelings. Her decision to retire wasn't even because she was unsure of herself, but because Sarina Wiegman gave her the confidence to believe in her abilities. It's like, mental health matters, right? πŸ™ And Earps is actually very relatable when it comes to those moments where you're not sure what to do.

I love how she calls out on that toxic culture of self-doubt that can creep up on us all. Her book "All In" is basically a blueprint for anyone who's struggled with their own identity or purpose. And I'm so glad the Guardian did an exclusive interview with her - it's like, exactly what we need right now: more stories about women in sports and leadership! πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” I think its pretty inspiring that Mary Earps wrote her own story about her career, especially after having to retire from the game she loves. Its not often we see a female athlete speaking their mind like this, it takes alot of courage πŸ™. Sarina Wiegman must have done something right to give her the confidence to push through and pursue her goals. This is a great example of how mentorship can make all the difference in someone's career and personal growth πŸ’ͺ. Its also interesting that she realized she was doing the same thing over and over again, thats a valuable lesson we can all learn from πŸ“š.

I think people are being super harsh on Sarina Wiegman πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I mean, Mary Earps was struggling to come to terms with her decision to retire and now she's saying that Wiegman gave her the confidence to be her best self? That's some next level coaching right there 😎. And can we talk about how rare it is for someone in their position to have such a profound impact on another person's career trajectory? I think Earps is getting all the hate and none of the credit πŸ€”. Wiegman's leadership skills are truly underrated and I'm so here for this! πŸ‘

I'm loving this new book by Mary Earps πŸ“šπŸ‘ I mean, it's always inspiring to see a legend come out and share their story, especially when they're still giving us that 90s vibe πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. It's so refreshing to hear that she was given the confidence by Sarina Wiegman to take her game to the next level - like, who wouldn't want to be told you've got what it takes? 😊 And I love how she poked fun at herself too, acknowledging those moments where she doubted herself... it's all about self-awareness and growth, right? πŸ’‘ The title "All In" is perfect btw, it's like she's telling us to go for it and be our best selves.

πŸ€” I'm loving this decision by Mary Earps to come out and share her story. It's crazy how she felt pressured into playing for England in 2023, even though she was uncertain about it all. But then Sarina Wiegman steps in and gives her the confidence boost she needed to take control of her career πŸ™Œ. I mean, can you imagine being told that you're repeating the same pattern over and over? It's like a personal wake-up call! πŸ’‘ And now Mary Earps is helping others by sharing her experiences in her autobiography "All In". Kudos to her for being honest about her journey and inspiring others to do the same πŸ™.

lol what's up with this retirement story tho? like mary earps is tryna spin it as if sarina wiegman just magically gave her the confidence or something idk about that πŸ€”. i mean earps has been saying she's done for a while now, but did we ever really see her play to potential? she was always decent but never that dominant player ppl make her out to be πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. and another thing what's with all these sports autobiographies? can't they just stick to one sport or something? this feels like every athlete is tryna cash in on their 15 mins of fame πŸ’Έ

Omg yaaassss Mary Earps' new book is everything I need right now!!! 🀩 I'm so proud of her for speaking out about the impact Sarina Wiegman had on her career - it's such a powerful reminder that we all need supportive people in our lives to help us reach our goals. And can we talk about how brave she was to take control of her own career and realize when it was time to step down? πŸ’ͺ I love how she says she wasn't leaving because she didn't believe in herself, but because Sarina believed in her. That's the kind of mentorship we need more of in sports! πŸ™Œ

I mean come on, a 40-something year old ex-gk retiring because Sarina Wiegman gave her the confidence to be better? That's not retirement, that's just getting told you're good enough πŸ˜‚. And now Earps is cashing in with an autobiography, like we haven't seen this before... πŸ˜’. I'm not buying it, someone else could've written all that, and honestly, it sounds like a pretty basic "I made mistakes, but my manager helped me" story πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

I'm not sure I get the hype around this Mary Earps autobiography πŸ€”... I mean, I love that she's being open about her decision to retire and all that, but it seems like a pretty standard "I was given the confidence to succeed" story 😐. Don't get me wrong, Sarina Wiegman sounds like an amazing manager, but I'm not convinced that Earps' retirement had anything to do with lack of talent or confidence.

Plus, isn't this just another example of how players always talk about being given the confidence and support by their teammates and coaches, but we never hear about all the times they're told they need to work on themselves? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I guess what I'm saying is that it's nice to see Earps sharing her story, but let's not get too carried away with the feel-good factor... there's more to the game than just being given a pat on the back. πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

Just read about Mary Earps' new autobiography and I gotta say, I'm loving the message of empowerment here! πŸ’ͺ She's saying that sometimes we need someone to have faith in us and give us a push to reach our full potential. That conversation with Sarina Wiegman must've been super helpful for her 🀝. I love how she's taking control of her narrative and sharing her story, it's so inspiring! And can we talk about how awesome it is that she's writing an autobiography? It's like, if you're not living your best life yet, someone else's book might just be the kickstart you need πŸ˜‚.

I'm loving this new book from Mary Earps! πŸ“š She's so inspiring, I mean who wouldn't want to have a manager like Sarina Wiegman in their corner, giving them the confidence to smash it? πŸ’ͺ It's great that she's speaking out about her own thought process and how she learned to trust herself. The fact that she was feeling uncertain before and had a breakthrough after talking to Sarina is just so refreshing. I'm sure this book will be a hit with all the football fans out there, especially the ladies! πŸ†

I'm not surprised Mary Earps retired from England football. I mean, how many times can you get given a confidence boost by the same manager before you're like "nah, I've got this"? Sarina Wiegman's coaching style is like that one aunt who just won't let you leave the house until she's finished giving you advice... and praise. Anyway, it's always great to see more women in football getting a platform, even if it's behind the scenes as an author. I guess it's better than being a footnote in history πŸ“šπŸ†

I think Mary Earps retiring from international football was totally a good move for her career... but I mean, what if she didn't? Like, would it have been better for England if she stayed? πŸ€” Hmm, I'm not sure anymore. On one hand, Sarina Wiegman gave her the confidence to do what she wanted, which is awesome... but maybe that just meant Earps knew exactly what was coming and decided to get out while she could? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ And now she's written this autobiography and it's getting positive reviews, so I guess whatever decision she made works for her... but can we really say what's best for someone else? πŸ™ƒ
