I'm low-key worried about this proposed bill . I get why Michigan lawmakers want to take a stand against ICE, especially with those horrific death rates in custody... 32 people? It's just not right . The fact that there are already facilities like the North Lake Processing Center reopening and folks getting hurt or worse is just devastating . I'm all for activists fighting back, but we gotta make sure our voices aren't being co-opted by some of these radical groups . Can't we find a way to address ICE's issues without resorting to this? We need to create solutions that prioritize human rights and dignity, not just demonize the system .
I'm totally with Rep Wegela on this one . Those detainer facilities are literally taking lives and causing so much trauma to families. I mean, 32 people have died nationwide last year alone - that's just heartbreaking . We gotta stand up for human rights and dignity here. It's crazy that politicians like him can make a difference by proposing this bill . The fact that it'll require private contractors to forfeit the property if it gets used again is a great touch too . Of course, it won't be an easy fight with Republicans in control of the state House, but I'm rooting for Rep Wegela and all the activists fighting against ICE's enforcement policies .
