Mitchell Lawrie, 15, continues historic Lakeside run into WDF World Championship semi-finals

Fifteen-year-old sensation Mitchell Lawrie continued his incredible run at the Lakeside venue, dominating Francois Schweyen 4-0 in the process to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the WDF World Championship.

Lawrie's dominance was evident from the opening set, as he traded ton-plus checkouts with Schweyen. However, it was only a matter of time before Lawrie took control, sealing the first set with a 16-darter and never looking back.

The young Scot went on to take the second and fourth sets without losing a leg, while showcasing his impressive finishing skills in the third set with a brilliant 124 finish. His overall average for the match was an impressive 92.06, cementing his status as one of the top players in the sport.

Lawrie's historic win sees him become the youngest player to ever win a match at Lakeside, surpassing Luke Littler's record set last year when he made it through to the last-32 aged just 15. He will now face fellow teenager Jenson Walker in the semi-finals, with the winner earning their place in the final.

In other action, Jimmy van Schie and Shane McGuirk produced an epic encounter in the final game of the evening, featuring three-ton plus finishes and 14 maximums. McGuirk started strongly, sweeping the first set 3-0 before van Schie levelled the scores with an excellent third set that featured finishes of 76 and 127.

The match ultimately went to a thrilling fifth set, with van Schie coming from behind to win three legs on the trot and claim victory. The Dutch Sequoia will now take on Sybren Gijbels in the semi-finals, while Lawrie looks forward to facing Walker.

You know what's wild is how this 15-year-old kid Mitchell Lawrie is breaking records left and right... I mean, it's one thing to be talented, but it's another to be dominating at such a young age. It makes you wonder about the mental preparation and focus that goes into being a pro darts player from such a tender age 🀯. Is he even enjoying this level of success or is it just fueling more pressure? And what does this say about the state of youth sports in general - are we pushing kids too hard, too fast? Or are they truly gifted and ready for the spotlight? It's like, can someone be a champion without being consumed by that title? πŸ†
