NHL fines William Nylander $5,000 for middle finger at camera

NHL Slaps Nylander with $5,000 Fine for Flipping Middle Finger at Camera During Game.

The NHL has taken swift action against Toronto Maple Leafs player William Nylander, fining him $5,000 for making an inappropriate gesture during a game against the Avalanche. The league stated that Nylander directed an obscene finger gesture towards a television camera operator who was pointing his lens in the direction of the press box where he and other Leafs players were seated.

The incident occurred on Sunday's Maple Leafs-Avalanche game, with cameras capturing Nylander's reaction when he flipped off the camera crew. The player later apologized for his actions on social media and to reporters during a post-game interview.

Leafs coach Craig Berube acknowledged that Nylander made a mistake but emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for one's actions. "He owned up to it," Berube said, adding that players often make mistakes but must learn from them.

With the fine in place, Nylander will be missing his sixth game due to a groin injury. The Leafs have struggled without him, losing four out of five games since his absence.

Ugh, can you believe this? 😩 So Nylander gets a $5,000 fine for flipping off the camera crew during a game 🤦‍♂️. I mean, yeah, he was being immature and unprofessional, but come on, that's not exactly the end of the world... or so it should be 🙄. The NHL is kinda harshing his mellow with this fine 💸. And what's the deal with having to miss another game due to a groin injury? 😒 It seems like Nylander's got some bad luck going on ⚠️. I guess you can't blame the Leafs for struggling without him, though... those losses are gonna add up 📊.

🤦‍♂️ really? $5k for flipping off a camera? that's a bit much if you ask me 😅. i mean, it was just a stupid gesture, not like he hurt anyone or threw a punch. 🙄 and now the leafs are getting killed without him on the ice... seems like an excuse to dock some pay 💸. maybe just a slap on the wrist would've sufficed? 👊

I don't get why he had to go and flip off that camera guy 🤔! I mean, what's the point of doing something like that in front of all those people? It was just a stupid gesture and now he's getting fined $5,000 and sitting out six games 🤑. I feel bad for the Leafs since they're having a tough time without him, but I guess you can't let players get away with disrespecting others on live TV 👀. The coach is right though, owning up to your mistake is important 💯... maybe Nylander should've just kept his mouth (and hands 🤚) shut!

I'm shocked 😱. I mean, come on William, you're a pro athlete, set an example! Flipping the finger at a camera op? That's just not cool 🤦‍♂️. I get it, he apologized and all, but still... $5k is kinda harsh 💸. And now he's gotta sit out six games with a groin injury? Talk about a double whammy 🤕. Berube's right though, players gotta own up to their mistakes, but I think the league could've been more lenient ⏰. It's just one of those moments where you wonder what went through his head 😕. Still, he's young and got this, hopefully learns from it 💪.

I don't get why the NHL is so quick to slap Nylander with a $5k fine... it's just a silly gesture, you know? I mean, come on, he was clearly upset and frustrated, but flipping off the camera wasn't exactly violent or aggressive behavior 🤷‍♂️. And to be fair, players do make mistakes like that all the time - it's how they learn from them that matters.

The fine is a bit harsh, especially considering Nylander did apologize on social media and in interviews afterwards 💔. But I guess that's just part of playing in the NHL - you've got to take some hits (literally or figuratively) when you're trying to make it at this level.

It's also a shame that the fine is affecting his game time - the Leafs could use him right now, especially with their recent losing streak 📉. Maybe they can work on teaching him some anger management techniques in the meantime... just saying 😉.
