One person killed in two-car crash on Eisenhower Expressway in Oak Park

A deadly collision on the Eisenhower Expressway in Oak Park has left one person dead and another seriously injured after two cars crashed into each other at around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to Illinois State Police, a Jeep and a Saturn were involved in the wreck, which occurred on I-290 westbound near Home Avenue. Unfortunately, the victim who was ejected from one of the vehicles succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the second person suffered severe enough injuries to be rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The extent of the injured individual's condition remains unclear, as Illinois State Police have not released any information on their status. However, they did confirm that all westbound lanes were shut down until 9:30 a.m. Sunday as part of the accident investigation.

With the cause of the crash still under investigation, authorities are working to piece together what led up to this tragic incident and ensure public safety in the area.
 
🚨😱 can you believe how fast accidents like this happen? i'm on my bike and i just had someone tailgate me on the highway, thank god they didn't crash into me... anyway back to this accident - it's just so senseless 🤕 why do these things keep happening? and what's with the 3 a.m. time frame? are people just out driving around in the middle of the night for no reason? 🚗😴 i'm all for being safe on the roads, but can't we all just slow down and be more aware of our surroundings? even though it's not the driver's fault right now, accidents like this make you realize how fragile life is 💔
 
this is so crazy that it happened on sunday morning when most ppl were sleepin lol 1 person dead is way too much btw im hopin the second person recovers tho its just awful that they had to be rushed to the hospital 🚑💔
 
Omg, I'm so done with rush hour already... like, who needs that much speed, right? 🤦‍♂️ Anyway, accidents can be super freaky, especially when you're stuck on the side of the road watching someone get hurt. Hopefully, the medics were able to patch up that second person ASAP and they won't end up with a permanent souvenir from this wreck. I'm still trying to wrap my head around why people always think it's a good idea to drive at 3 am... don't you guys need your beauty sleep or something? 😴

And can we talk about how confusing it is when the roads are closed for an investigation and you're just like, "Uh, I'm supposed to be here?" Like, I get it, safety first and all that jazz, but come on! I don’t usually comment but... what's going on with our roads, man? It seems like only yesterday we had a major car accident on the 405 and now another one just happened on the Eisenhower Expressway. I mean, can't we get it together to make sure these highways are safe for everyone?

And seriously, what if that person who was ejected from the Jeep had made it to safety? Would they be okay today? It's just so... random. One minute you're driving along, the next minute you're fighting for your life on the side of the road.

I don't know what's going on with our roads or our traffic laws, but something needs to change. We need more cameras, more speed limits, more... I don't know, something! This is just getting out of hand. 🚗😩
